Roadway Senior Project Manager
Benesch is seeking to hire a Senior Project Manager to join the Roadway Design team in Raleigh! In this position, you'll hold a management position with guidance from senior leadership. This role entails supervising staff, mentoring their technical skills, and contributing to project management on NCDOT projects and beyond.
Location
This position will work in our Raleigh office on a hybrid work schedule.

- Communicate technical progress and issues to Project Managers promptly, facilitating informed decision-making and proactive problem-solving, ultimately contributing to project efficiency and success
- Train and mentor staff, imparting technical knowledge and skills and fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team
- Perform, review, and manage technical analyses and designs, ensuring completeness and compliance with quality standards, thereby mitigating risks and ensuring project integrity
- Assist with business development and proposal development, leveraging technical expertise to secure new opportunities and drive company growth
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on projects, providing specialized knowledge and insights to optimize project outcomes and deliver added value to clients

What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Professional Engineering license in NC
- Previous NCDOT project experience and understanding of NCDOT processes and procedures preferred
- Showcase strong analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling efficient decision-making and resolution of complex technical challenges
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills to interface with stakeholders, fostering clear and transparent communication channels and promoting collaboration
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, facilitating clear and concise interactions with clients, team members, and stakeholders

Roadway Project Engineer II
We have an exciting career opportunity for a Project Engineer with our Civil Roadway team. The ideal candidate has experience with civil transportation design and comprehensive knowledge of roadway projects and developing plans in accordance with local DOT standards.
Location
This position will report to our Raleigh office on a hybrid work schedule.
The Impact You Will Have
- Work closely with senior staff to deliver transportation projects
- Work independently within a design team to execute project work plans
- Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure projects remain under budget and on schedule
- Mentor junior staff
- Interacting with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders
- Contribute to Division strategic growth initiatives and collaborate on regional growth strategy
- Represent Benesch at industry and professional engagement events
What You Will Need
- A minimum of 10 years of diverse and progressive civil transportation design experience
- Licensed PE in the state of NC or able to obtain licensure through comity within one year
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering
- Experience working with public agencies, private entities and/or municipalities
- Progressive experience with developing plans specifications, and submissions per DOT standards and requirements
- Excellent communication and client relation skills
- Strong organizational skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules
- Advanced use of MicroStation and Geopak. OpenRoads Designer experience preferred
- Assure compliance with project CADD standards
- Ability to work independently and develop task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner #LI-MF1

Roadway Design Technical Manager
We have a career opportunity for a roadway engineer with a proven track record of successfully managing a broad range of projects. In this role you will both self-perform and direct project teams in the planning and design of projects, as well as play an important role in managing client relationships. You will also contribute to strategic initiatives that drive the growth of the roadway group.
The Impact You Will Have
- Mentor and direct the advancement of the technical skills of staff while executing projects
- Manage technical elements of a project, including assessing what analyses need to be completed, and what is the correct approach (i.e. software, design assumptions, etc.) for that analysis
- Ensure the development of high-quality engineering documents
- Communicate technical progress and issues to Project Manager in a timely and ongoing manner
- Adhere to all internal procedures for quality control, documentation, and project tracking
- Contribute to other project work as a technical specialist or advisor, as needed
- Provide input into the growth of the practice
- Perform, review, and manage technical analysis and design. Take responsibility for the completeness of design details and ensure compliance with PQMP
- Work toward being a leading subject matter expert of targeted elements within the discipline
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in engineering
- PE License
- NCDOT experience preferred
- Ability to collaborate with others in a team environment relating to a variety of tasks
- Advanced knowledge of software appropriate for roadway design, showing proficiency in most programs specific to this role/discipline
- Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards that govern roadway design
- Experience in MicroStation is required and experience in Open Roads Design is highly desirable

Bridge Inspection Technologist II
We’re seeking a Bridge Inspection Technology to join our Cary, NC office. This position will assist the Team Leader of a 2-man bridge inspection team with in-depth safety inspections of all types of highway structures, including bridges, culverts, large pipes and walkways, and measurement of sign clearances. The successful candidate will take precise measurements on structures to detect any movement, deterioration and/or damage to structural members and documents deficiencies then write detailed structure inspection reports documenting all findings necessary for use in an asset management program which includes determining the structural integrity and safety of State highway structures. Work is performed in an outside environment with project location dealing with heights, slopes, and possible exposure to wildlife. Preference will be given to those applicants with bridge safety inspection experience. The successful candidate must be able to drive a vehicle and/or be able to drive alone.
Location
Bridge inspections will occur throughout the entire state of North Carolina that required out of town work/overnight stays. The position may require work outside of the state to support bridge inspections elsewhere. This position will report to our Raleigh office on a hybrid work schedule.
What You Will Need
- Experience using Word and Excel
- Experience with structure plan reading
- Experience with bridge inspection equipment, i.e. Hydra Platforms, Man Lifts, Snooper Trucks or Boats
- Experience with digital cameras, tape measures, hammers and ladders
- Experience in drafting, sketching and report writing
- Experience with NCDOT WIGINS system is preferred; but not required
Additional Expectations:
This person is responsible for assisting the Team Leader in carrying out in-depth inspections on bridges, light standards, culverts, pipes, sign supports & overhead walkways and preparation of reports detailing conditions found during the inspection process. These reports are used in an evaluation process that determines the structural integrity and the capability of structures to support loads imposed on them by the traveling public and/or natural forces. Other duties include training new inspectors, scheduling and planning the team’s activities in conformance with bridge priorities. The field work requires work in situations that are hazardous in their nature, such as traffic congestion, working on slopes, climbing of high steel, working in confined areas, and working above water or the snooper crane at considerable heights. Additional site assessments for project development, field assessment or construction administration support for relevant projects could also be required of this position.
What We Are Looking For
- Associate's degree in civil engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma
- Two (2) years of progressive experience in the inspection, construction, design or maintenance of steel/concrete bridges or related construction activities; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience

Structural/Bridge Designer
Join our growing Civil team as a Structural Designer. In this role you will work on various transportation projects with state and local transportation agencies. As a Designer you will perform engineering models, analysis and/or designs, and supporting calculations / documentation. You will also coordinate the drafting of project elements for various clients. Structural-Bridge Technical Manager
We have a career opportunity for a Structural-Bridge Engineer seeking to grow their career as a Technical Manager. As a Structural-Bridge Technical Manager, you will both self-perform and direct project teams in the planning and design of transportation structures projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be viewed as a subject matter expert and provide technical advice to staff to ensure the successful execution of projects and help drive the growth of the NC Structural group.

Location

The Impact You Will Have

Roadway Project Manager
We're growing and looking for an experienced Transportation Project Manager to join our Raleigh team! This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned professional who thrives on complex, high-impact transportation projects. You’ll play a key role in designing and delivering roadway, highway, and interstate infrastructure for NCDOT, local municipalities, and private clients.
Location
This position is based out of our Raleigh office on a hybrid work schedule.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage transportation design projects from concept to construction
- Oversee project scope, budgets, schedules, and QA/QC processes
- Collaborate across disciplines to develop turnkey solutions
- Engage in business development and marketing efforts including proposal development, networking, and presentations
- Represent the company at public meetings, conferences, and interviews
- Conduct research on Florida state and local transportation regulations

Benesch is seeking to hire a Technical Manager to join the Roadway Design team in Raleigh! In this position, you'll hold a first-level technical management position with guidance from senior leadership. Civil / Land Development Group Manager
We are looking to hire an experienced Civil / land Development Group Manager to be based in our Charlotte or Raleigh office. We offer opportunities to work with schools, hospitals, private developments, local agencies, municipalities and DOTs on a variety of civil site projects involving storm water, site design and layout, parking lot design, roadway, water and sewer improvements. The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer and have significant experience in client development and pursuing, managing, designing, and providing civil site services for public and private agencies, including DOTs, counties, and municipalities.

This full-time position will report to our Charlotte or Raleigh office at least 3 days a week.
The Impact You Will Have
- Manage and grow the North Carolina Division Civil Site Group, including the design, and construction administration service lines
- Manage project teams, accountable for staffing, budget, and schedule

What We Are Looking For

- 15+ years of industry experience
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
- Proficient understanding of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software
- Excellent communication, strong written, oral, and client relation skills, experience interacting with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders
- Understanding and knowledge of applicable codes
- Understanding of North Carolina regulatory agencies and permitting process
- Experienced in Project Management, including design cost control, project budget control, and quality assurance/quality control
- Able to successfully manage staff both individually and as a team
- Experience working with public agencies, private entities, and/or municipalities
- Design experience with site development, local roads, water distribution systems, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, sedimentation & erosion control practices, and stormwater best management practices
- Excellent communication, business development, project management, and client relation skills
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills with a track record for understanding and adhering to contractual requirements
- Progressive experience working directly with clients developing relationships, with proven ability to win work
- Ability to lead, manage, mentor, and grow a dynamic team
- Strong understanding of project financials and Vision reporting; maintaining compliance with division and project financial objectives including Chargeability, Profit, Overhead
