About The Role
Our software team is growing and we are looking for a talented engineer to join our agile, world-class team. In this role you will develop autonomous behaviors for humanoid robots to interact with the world around it. You will work closely with state estimation, navigation, and controls teams to execute behaviors aimed at solving challenging problems in real-world deployments.
About The Work
- Design, implement, test, and deploy autonomous behaviors for humanoid robots
- Prototype autonomous behaviors in simulation and execute on robot hardware
- Develop algorithms robust to environmental uncertainty and imperfect state estimation
- Implement performance tests for evaluating the reliability of robot behaviors
- Contribute to the software architecture and design of the autonomy stack
- Collaborate with members of the autonomy teams to solve complex cross functional problems
- Engineer high quality software that is well tested, reliable and maintainable
About You
- Industry experience deploying mobile manipulation robots in real world applications
- Experience developing manipulation algorithms on high-DOF robots
- Familiarity with behavior trees, finite state machines, or similar behavior management and execution systems
- Experience with perception and scene understanding especially as it pertains to manipulation
- Strong robotics fundamentals, including kinematics, dynamics, sensing, and control
- Experience using simulation tools such as Isaac Sim / Mujoco / Drake / gazebo or similar
- Experience with automated testing for simulation
- Strong debugging skills; the ability to identify and diagnose complex issues that arise within robotics
- Strong software experience in modern C++ and Python
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience working with humanoid (or similar) robots
- Experience leveraging machine learning to improve grasp planning and object manipulation
- Experience in classical robotics motion planning and trajectory optimization algorithms
- MS or Ph.D. in robotics, computer science, or related field or have equivalent industry experience

We are open to remote candidates, but a prefer this role to be hybrid position based out of one of our Salem, Pittsburgh, or Fremont offices.

Staff Robotics Software Engineer

About the Role
We are looking for a Staff Robotics Software Engineer (Tech Lead) to lead the design and development of robot behaviors that expand and generalize our humanoid robot’s capabilities. In this role, you will own behavior design end-to-end, from high-level task logic and system design down to on-robot validation and deployment. You will work at the intersection of behavior planning, motion planning, object perception, and manipulation, developing new autonomy capabilities and pushing the robot into new classes of tasks. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader who can set technical direction and wants to stay close to the robot: writing code, running experiments, debugging logs, working with hardware, and mentoring other engineers by building alongside them.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the design, implementation, and validation of complex humanoid robot behaviors.
- Lead behavior planning and execution design, including task decomposition, control flow, recovery, and failure handling.
- Build new autonomy capabilities that expand what the robot can reliably do in the real world.
- Develop and evaluate manipulation strategies for new tasks, objects, workflows, and customer environments.
- Integrate robot behaviors with motion planning, controls, object perception, estimation, and hardware systems.
- Train, evaluate, and integrate learned policies into hybrid learned/classical execution workflows.
- Integrate new end effectors, tools, sensors, and other hardware capabilities into the behavior stack.
- Debug complex system-level failures using logs, replay, metrics, simulation, and on-robot experimentation.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, debugging, and hands-on technical guidance.
- Help set technical direction and best practices for building robust, composable, reusable, and generalizable robot behaviors.
About You
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related engineering field.
- 8+ years of professional experience developing robotics software, autonomy systems, robot behaviors, or related real-world robotic capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience as a tech lead or senior technical owner for complex robotics projects.
- Proficient in Python and C++, and comfortable contributing to large, long-lived codebases.
- Experience with behavior trees, state machines, task planners, hierarchical planning, or similar behavior-planning frameworks.
- Strong system-level understanding of how motion planning, object perception, controls, estimation, and hardware interact on real robots.
- Experience working with complex algorithms and data pipelines, with an ability to optimize for performance, robustness, and scalability.
- Experience collaborating closely with perception, planning, controls, hardware, product, or field teams.
- Strong ownership mindset with a focus on robustness, generalization, and real-world reliability.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience developing manipulation strategies for complex or unstructured environments.
- Experience with learned robot skills, including imitation learning, reinforcement learning, or hybrid learned/classical execution strategies.

About the Role
We are looking for a Staff Robotics Software Engineer to join our Skills team, focusing on object perception for robot manipulation. This technical leadership role is deeply rooted in production robotics, where reliability, performance, and system behavior matter most. You will focus on integrating, adapting, and operationalizing perception systems within a full robotic stack, ensuring they perform robustly on real hardware in real environments.

About the Work
- Own object perception performance on the robot, from sensors through runtime behavior integration
- Lead the design, implementation, and deployment of perception pipelines for manipulation, including object pose estimation, depth reasoning, and scene understanding
- Work hands-on with real robots to debug, tune, and harden perception systems under real-world variability
- Collaborate with AI/ML teams to evaluate, integrate, train, and fine-tune perception models
- Explore and integrate off-the-shelf perception solutions and libraries where they meet performance and reliability needs
- Combine learned models with classical CV, geometry, and task structure to meet system-level requirements
- Define interfaces and contracts between perception, behaviors, and task planning to ensure reliable execution

- Experience working across learned models and classical perception approaches
- Experience training, fine-tuning, and evaluating perception models
- Strong experience writing production-quality C++ and Python code
- Hands-on experience with monocular vision, stereo vision, RGB-D sensing, or depth reconstruction
- Experience with perception libraries (OpenCV, Open3D, PCL, ROS perception, NumPy, scikit-image)
- You love solving hard perception problems, but your real passion is seeing those solutions work on a robot in the real world and having an impact

About The Role
The AI innovation team at Agility works on building and deploying next-generation robot foundation models and end-to-end policies on humanoid robots. Your goal will be to develop and test cutting-edge methods for imitation learning and reinforcement learning on humanoid robots, in order to establish the techniques necessary for humanoid robots to perform different real-world tasks. You will work on a team, running experiments on humanoid robots, and will research and implement methods which can be transferred into production.
About the Work
- Design, train, and deploy robust policies for locomotion, manipulation, and dynamic interactions with the environment.
- Develop core reinforcement learning infrastructure, including scalable training pipelines and evaluation frameworks.
- Design and implement new simulation environments and tasks to support training and deployment of control policies.

As a Staff/Senior Staff Software Engineer – Build & Release, you will drive systems that accelerate our software development lifecycle across the company. Define how software is built, validated, and delivered across robotics, cloud, firmware, and simulation. Safeguard the reliability, safety, and security of release systems at scale.

Key Responsibilities
- Vision & Ownership
- Design, implement, and advance a modern release engineering system for safe, reliable, low-friction delivery across robots, cloud, and edge.
- Own tools, processes, and standards for secure, observable, high-confidence code-to-production deployment systems.
- Define and drive adoption of versioning, artifact, and promotion standards across the organization.
- Collaboration & Standardization
- Collaborate with Software, Hardware, Quality, Security, and Product teams. Establish scalable release workflows and delivery standards.
- Transform requirements into automated, policy-driven delivery systems that infuse reliability, security, and compliance throughout the SDLC.
- Establish and scale self-service “golden paths” for build, test, and release.
- Execution & System Evolution
- Own and evolve build and release systems (e.g., Bazel, CI/CD pipelines) for performance, scalability, determinism, and artifact integrity.
- Create self-service tooling for release creation, versioning, and deployment orchestration.
- Manage build and release systems as production infrastructure. Establish SLIs/SLOs and maintain strong observability.
- Advance quality, safety, and security with automated testing. Enforce policy-based gates and validate artifacts.

- Integrated, multi-layer validation systems (simulation, HIL, integration, and release gating) that provide high-confidence signals for safe deployment.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software, platform, or release engineering, with demonstrated Staff-level ownership and cross-team impact
- Proven experience designing and operating CI/CD and build/release systems at scale as production infrastructure
- Strong expertise in build systems and artifact management, with experience in Bazel or similar large-scale build systems
- Experience building deterministic, reproducible systems (builds, pipelines, or deployments), including performance and scalability considerations
- Deep experience with end-to-end delivery systems, including release orchestration and failure recovery
- Strong understanding of cloud-native systems, containers, and infrastructure as code (e.g., Kubernetes, AWS/GCP, Terraform or equivalent)
- Experience defining and operating SLIs/SLOs and observability for CI/CD, build, or platform systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives, define standards, and drive adoption across robotics, cloud, and platform teams
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience in robotics, autonomous systems, or embedded/firmware delivery
- Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or simulation-based validation systems
- Experience designing or evolving large-scale build/release architectures (e.g., migrations, system redesigns)
- Experience building policy-driven or compliance-aware delivery systems (e.g., SBOMs, signing, SOC2/ISO environments)

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Ownership & Execution:
- Define and Evolve Architecture: Own and drive the long-term technical direction for the robot software stack, including component boundaries, data contracts, inter-process communication protocols (RPC/streaming), and deployment workflows.
- Core Frameworks & Services: Take hands-on ownership of the critical, cross-cutting frameworks and core services that are fundamental dependencies for all robot features, such as:
- Behavior coordination and state machine frameworks.

- Advanced logging, telemetry, and configuration management libraries.

- Technical Advisor: Act as the primary technical advisor, mentoring Senior and Staff-level engineers on system design, developer experience, and best practices across the full software development lifecycle.

Collaboration & Alignment:
- Engineering Partnership: Partner directly with AI, Controls, and Perception teams to ensure frameworks meet their performance and capability needs, accelerating their feature delivery.
- Data Platform: Coordinate with the Data Platform team on advanced logging, serialization, and telemetry strategies.

Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of professional experience in high-performance, real-time, or deeply embedded software engineering, with a significant track record in robotics or similar complex, integrated systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in defining and evolving large-scale software architectures, and a history of ownership over mission-critical, cross-cutting frameworks.
- Mastery of modern C++ and expert-level proficiency in systems programming on Linux.
- Expertise in designing, building, and operating low-latency and highly reliable distributed systems, particularly those with strict timing and determinism requirements.
- Proven experience mentoring and providing architectural guidance to Staff and Principal-level engineers.
- Exceptional ability to autonomously gather complex, cross-team requirements, communicate high-stakes technical trade-offs, and deliver foundational internal solutions.

Responsibilities

Overview
The Director of AI will be a pivotal leader within our cutting-edge humanoid robotics company, driving the strategic direction and execution of all artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives. Strategic Leadership and Vision
