About the Role

As a Staff Systems Engineer at Agility Robotics, you'll be the technical leader defining and delivering system-level architecture for our humanoid robot platform, with focus in functional safety requirements integration. Key Responsibilities

Robotics Development 

• Requirements Management: Define system and subsystem architectures spanning all domains (mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software) with embedded functional safety, and drive trade studies to balance safety, performance, cost, and execution speed.
• V&V Definition : Define, own, and decompose detailed, verifiable requirements in Jama that can be delivered to Integration and Testing teams for Verification and Validation.
• Interface Definition: Lead development and maintenance of Interface Control Documents (ICDs), managing implementation-specific details for hardware and software interfaces, including message structures, pinouts, and bolt patterns.
• Operational Definitions: Define the sequence of operations between major elements and users using narrative Concept of Operations (ConOps), swimlane diagrams, and/or logical flow charts.
• Test Support: Align system requirements with test plans to ensure coverage across the entire safety system. Drive system-level verification of safety requirements through integration testing and track design differences between test setups and the intended design to determine technical risk.

Operational Support and Technical Leadership 

• Safety Tracking & Monitoring: Regularly check and confirm that the safety system's performance meets all specified requirements under live operating conditions.
• Change and Modification Management: Ensure that any modification to the system's hardware or software that impacts safety must be strictly validated to maintain safety integrity and prevent the introduction of new risks.
• Failure Analysis and Investigation: Actively participate in safety assessments and root cause investigations, collaborating with non-safe software and hardware development teams to prevent systemic faults.
• Operational Sustainment: Work closely with Commercial and Product teams to ensure that critical safety mechanisms and processes are maintained at customer sites, including emergency stop and human detection.
• Cross-Functional Alignment and Leadership: Facilitate cross-functional decisions when safety requirements conflict with performance, cost, or schedule constraints, and identify technical and safety risks to influence system decisions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Systems Engineering experience in safety-critical domains: robotics, aerospace, automotive, medical devices, or similar multidisciplinary hardware/software systems
• 3+ years working on system safety or functional safety projects and use of functional safety standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, IEC 62061, or similar
• Demonstrated experience leading system-level integration, architecture, and requirement management efforts
• Previous experience in high-growth, fast-paced environments where self-direction and bias for action are essential
• Experience with safety-critical robotics or autonomous systems strongly preferred

Technical Skills & Safety Expertise

• Understanding of safety lifecycle processes, hazard analysis (HARA, HAZOP, FTA, FMEA), safety integrity levels, and safety architecture principles
• Expert-level skills in authoring safety requirements, managing traceability, and defining cross-functional safety interfaces
• Strong familiarity with the V-model approach to safety-critical systems engineering, including how to adapt it for rapid development environments

We are designing the next generation of Digit Humanoid Robot for commercial scale. Highly reliable and robust designs are critical to successful deployment of our robots in large quantities. Digit works in demanding environments, performing highly repetitive and heavily loaded tasks. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with other mechanical engineers and cross functional teams to develop the next generation Digit.  This role will own multiple mechanical and electro-mechanical parts/assemblies and will be responsible for the design, prototyping, and DFx for those parts. This is a hybrid role, requiring you to be at our San Francisco Bay Area (Fremont) facility at least 3-days a week and occasional travel to the RobotFab facility in Salem, Oregon.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a Systems Integration Engineer specialized in Software Issue Triage and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Your main function is to conduct remote triage, utilizing log parsing, telemetry data, and video analysis, to identify failures with software root causes and ensure they are accurately dispositioned to the appropriate SW development teams. You will conduct deep-dive root cause analysis on novel failures occurring at the hardware-software interface, while simultaneously architecting the diagnostic scripts and tools required to streamline these investigations.

In this role you will move beyond basic data review to navigate ambiguous failure modes, develop automated diagnostic scripts, and create the technical documentation that drives software reliability across the fleet.

Issue Triage

• Serve as a lead voice in the triage process, providing the expertise required to classify complex failures specifically as software, firmware, or system-level regressions.
• Effectively disposition identified issues to the software organization, providing clean tickets (logs, video clips, and analysis) that allow developers to act quickly.
• Manage and prioritize escalated SW-related investigations, making informed trade-offs to ensure that critical safety or performance risks are addressed first.

Root Cause Analysis

• Lead end-to-end investigations into novel failures using deep-dive log review, telemetry analysis, and video diagnostics to pinpoint bugs at the software/hardware interface or unexpected system behaviors.
• Develop and execute scripts or other data visualization tools to parse massive log sets and identify intermittent failure trends.
• Leverage structured methodologies such as 5-Whys or Fishbone to move from a surface-level symptom to a definitive root cause. 

Continuous Improvement

• Author and maintain "Gold Standard" RCA reports and troubleshooting guides that improve the technical autonomy of the broader triage team.
• Promote a culture of rigorous documentation and data-driven problem-solving.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• 4+ years of experience in Systems Integration, Software-Hardware interface, or R&D with a focus on software on complex mechatronic or autonomous systems.
• Proven experience using monitoring and observability platforms (e.g., Datadog, Splunk, or New Relic) to track system health and identify performance anomalies across a fleet.

Test Infrastructure, Tooling and Automation

• Establish and scale structured test development practices and automated test frameworks across the full robotics software stack including controls, perception, state estimation, planning, and the cloud platform for  robot fleet management , ensuring test cases are comprehensive, maintainable, and traceable to product requirements
• Build and maintain internal tooling that serves the broader SEIT org, reducing manual effort and increasing test coverage and execution velocity
• Own test execution platforms, artifact management, regression tracking, and reporting infrastructure
• Partner with Systems Engineering to ensure requirements are translated into automatable acceptance criteria and that traceability from requirement to test to result is maintained

Release Management

• Lead the release management function end to end: define quality gates, own the release readiness process, and make the go/no-go call on software releases with clear, metrics-backed rationale
• Define the test strategy for each software release, specifying what gets tested, at what depth, and on what platforms before software ships to development or production robots
• Develop and enforce processes for bug tracking, prioritization, and resolution across the release cycle

Post-Release Feedback Loop

• Own what happens after a release goes out: track field issues, identify test gaps that allowed escapes, and drive resolution  before the next release
• Partner with integration engineers and software teams to reproduce, root cause, and resolve high-priority issues using data logs, telemetry, and test artifacts
• Use field data to continuously improve the test strategy and raise the quality bar over time

People and Cross-functional Leadership

• Lead, grow, and mentor a team of engineers across test infrastructure, automation, and release management

Experience

• 8+ years in product testing, test infrastructure, or test automation with at least 2 years in a management role
• Proven experience testing complex, multidisciplinary systems where hardware and software are deeply coupled: robotics, autonomous vehicles, embedded systems, or similar domains
• Track record of building and scaling SDET or test engineering teams in high-growth, fast-paced environments.
• Experience owning release processes end-to-end, including defining quality gates, managing regression pipelines, and making go/no-go calls

• Hands-on experience architecting and building test infrastructure for complex robotic or electromechanical systems, including simulation-based, hardware-in-the-loop, and physical platform testing

About The Role

We are seeking a Staff Firmware Engineer to plan robot firmware architecture, design subsystems, and develop robust and reliable firmware for our full line of robots.  In this role, you will collaborate with a multi-discipline team of engineers to understand the unique requirements for our products and play a key role in ensuring that we have robot designs that are robust and production-ready.  You will also serve as the bridge between hardware and higher level robot control algorithms by documenting interfaces and providing support to other engineers.

About The Work:

• Contribute to the C++ firmware architecture that drives our robot’s low-level sensor network, controls, and power management systems
• Develop the firmware communication layer utilizing EtherCAT and CAN
• Write firmware for the hardware abstraction layer, peripheral drivers, and applications
• Perform real-time hardware testing and debugging using benchtop test equipment such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
• Work with cross-disciplinary teams to solve complex problems dealing with the integration of software and hardware
• Write performant, well-tested, maintainable, and well-documented C++ code

About the Role

As a Senior Systems Engineer for Software at Agility Robotics, you'll drive system-level architecture and integration for our humanoid robot platform. Working within a high-impact Systems Engineering team, you'll take ownership of requirements, interfaces, and cross-functional integration—bringing clarity and structure to complex systems while maintaining speed of execution.

What You'll Do

1. System Architecture & Integration: Define and document system and subsystem architectures spanning mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software domains. Drive trade studies with focus on simplicity, performance, cost, and execution speed.

2. Requirements Engineering: Own software subsystem-level requirements through their full lifecycle—writing, decomposing, validating, and tracking execution. Maintain rigorous traceability while enabling development velocity.

3. Compliance & Functional Safety: Ensure system designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. Facilitate functional safety analysis including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and safety case development. Drive compliance activities for certification, software development, and software deployment.

4. Interface Management: Develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs). Anticipate and resolve integration issues early through proactive systems thinking.

5. Operational Excellence: Identify and eliminate operational inefficiencies through systematic analysis of field performance data, customer workflows, and deployment scenarios. Implement design improvements that directly enhance system reliability, maintainability, and performance.

6. Technical Execution: Participate in design reviews, integration efforts, and root cause analysis. Identify risks, lead trade studies, and influence decisions from a systems perspective.

7. Field-Focused Problem Solving: Proactively analyze customer deployment scenarios, field feedback, and operational data to identify and solve system-level issues before they impact production or customers.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• 5+ years of Systems Engineering experience in robotics, aerospace, automotive, or similar multidisciplinary hardware/software systems

• Proven track record leading system-level integration and architecture efforts

• Experience in fast-paced environments requiring self-direction and bias for action

• Experience integrating new software capabilities into autonomous systems

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency with V-model systems engineering approaches, adapted for rapid development

• Expert-level requirements authoring, traceability management, and interface definition

• Proven ability to logically decompose functional requirements for software 

• Compliance and standards expertise: Knowledge of relevant industry standards (ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ANSI/RIA R15.06, or similar) and regulatory frameworks for robotics systems in manufacturing/warehousing environments

• Functional safety experience: Demonstrated ability to conduct hazard analysis, risk assessment, and safety case development. Experience with safety lifecycle processes and safety-critical system design

• Experience collaborating with Test Engineering on system-level validation strategies
