10x Genomics is establishing a diagnostics effort, translating our leading single-cell and spatial assay technologies into impactful clinical applications. We are seeking a Scientist II to join the clinical bioinformatics team. The ideal candidate excels at distilling complex biological questions into actionable computational strategies, implementing computational/statistical methods and applying them to large-scale single-cell or spatial transcriptomics datasets to derive clinically meaningful insights.

The role requires a biology-first mindset, proficiency with large-scale bioinformatics analyses, strong scientific acumen and statistical rigor. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with some of the largest biomedical datasets assayed using cutting-edge 10x Genomics technologies, deriving clinical insights that power the next generation of clinical diagnostics.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Implement rigorous computational/statistical methods for single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data analysis.
• Derive actionable insights from clinical/translational single-cell or in-situ spatial datasets.
• Design, implement and validate biomarkers for diagnostic applications.
• Implement and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for reproducible, large-scale data processing.
• Process and analyze single-cell or in-situ spatial transcriptomics datasets spanning hundreds to thousands of samples.

To Be Successful, You Will Need:

• Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics or a related discipline with extensive hands-on experience in single-cell NGS data analysis.
• A minimum of 2 years of industry experience post Ph.D.
• Experience analyzing large-scale single-cell or spatial transcriptomics datasets to derive biologically meaningful insights and/or diagnostic biomarkers.
• In-depth understanding of the assumptions, limitations and caveats of statistical methods.
• Experience developing and optimizing high-performance, scalable code.
• Proficiency working in a Linux environment.
• Goal-oriented, self-motivated and an independent problem solver.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a conscientious work ethic.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with 10x Genomics single-cell and in-situ transcriptomics technologies is a strong preference
• Hands-on research experience in cancer or autoimmune diseases is a strong preference
• Knowledge of clinical genomics, biomarker discovery and diagnostics
• Development of statistical models and algorithms for single-cell or spatial transcriptomics data
• Application of machine learning, particularly in the context of genomics
• Proficiency with workflow orchestration frameworks such as Snakemake, Nextflow or Martian
• Programming best practices including data analysis reproducibility, version control, design patterns, testing, debugging and profiling
• Track record of writing production-level code or maintaining published software packages
• High-throughput computing infrastructure such as HPCs or cloud computing

About The Role:

This Clinical Laboratory Scientist/General Supervisor position is responsible for the day-to-day execution and oversight of high complexity next-generation sequencing (NGS) testing within a CLIA-certified laboratory. This role ensures the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of test results while maintaining full compliance with regulatory and quality standards. The General Supervisor provides technical leadership, staff supervision, and operational support to ensure efficient laboratory performance.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Perform and oversee daily laboratory operations for high complexity NGS assays, ensuring adherence to established protocols and quality standards.
• Supervise and provide guidance to laboratory personnel, including training, competency assessment, and performance management.
• Ensure the accuracy and validity of test results through review of quality control, quality assurance, and assay performance metrics.
• Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Assist in the development, validation, implementation, and optimization of NGS assays and workflows.
• Monitor laboratory workflow, turnaround times, and resource utilization to ensure operational efficiency.
• Troubleshoot technical issues related to instrumentation, assays, and data analysis.
• Review and maintain laboratory documentation, including SOPs, validation reports, and quality records.
• Collaborate with laboratory leadership to support continuous quality improvement initiatives.

To Be Successful in the Role, You Will Need:

• Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license (or CGMBS/generalist license) meeting CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, physical, clinical laboratory science, or a related field
• Meets CLIA General Supervisor qualifications under 42 CFR 493.1461, including appropriate education, training, and experience
• Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in high complexity CLIA testing, with demonstrated expertise and experience in NGS technologies.
  Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of CLIA regulations and quality systems.
• Experience with NGS platforms, library preparation, sequencing, and bioinformatics pipelines.

This Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Technical Supervisor position performs and provides scientific and technical oversight for high complexity next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays within a CLIA-certified laboratory. This role is accountable for ensuring the operational execution, analytical validity, performance, and regulatory compliance of all NGS testing. The Technical Supervisor serves as the subject matter expert for assay validation, quality systems, and troubleshooting, and partners closely with laboratory leadership to maintain operational excellence and continuous improvement.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Provide operational execution and technical oversight of high complexity NGS assays, ensuring analytical accuracy and reliability of test results.
• Validate, and implement NGS assays in accordance with CLIA, CAP, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Establish and monitor quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) programs, including review of performance metrics, trends, and corrective actions.
• Author, review, and approve technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), validation protocols/reports, and test methods.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and support internal and external audits and inspections.
• Serve as the primary technical resource for troubleshooting complex assay, instrumentation, and bioinformatics issues.
• Evaluate and approve changes to assays, workflows, instrumentation, and software, including revalidation as required.
• Oversee proficiency testing, method comparisons, and ongoing assay performance monitoring.
• Provide technical training and competency assessment for laboratory personnel.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (bioinformatics, R&D, quality, and operations) to support assay optimization and innovation.

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, physical, clinical laboratory science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in CLIA lab molecular diagnostics, with significant experience in NGS assay validation, implementation, and operation
• Demonstrated expertise and experience in NGS technologies, including library preparation, sequencing platforms, and bioinformatics analysis pipelines
• Strong knowledge of CLIA, CAP, NYS, and other regulatory frameworks governing high complexity testing.
• Proven experience with assay validation, QC/QA systems, and regulatory inspections.

About The Role:

The Sr. Manager, Clinical Operations and Strategic Alliances reporting to the Director, Business Development and Strategic Partnerships will drive the operational execution and strategic management of high-impact alliances central to 10x Genomics’ effort to advance future diagnostic applications for single cell and spatial technologies. 

Key responsibilities for this role include: managing a portfolio of academic collaborations and strategic partnerships according to established milestones and outcomes, leading the operational execution for large-scale, multi-year collaborations with premier academic institutions to generate evidence for future clinical applications of single-cell and spatial technologies, and driving collaboration between internal cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve desired results. 

This role requires a unique hybrid of Clinical Operations and Alliance Management. The ideal candidate is an action-oriented and highly-effective leader who has previously managed clinical research studies as well as strategic partnerships.

What You Will Be Doing:

Clinical Operations and Study Execution

• Study Execution: Manage the operational execution of large-scale, longitudinal clinical research studies according to established agreements with academic institutions
• Timeline & Risk Management: Own and drive clinical research study timelines, deliverables, and operational plans ensuring adherence to sampling schedules; identify operational risks regarding enrollment, setup, or logistics early, implementing mitigation strategies to maintain study integrity.  
• Sample Logistics & Chain of Custody: Establish and enforce auditable procedures for sample collection, tracking, and chain of custody, ensuring compliant transport from clinical sites to 10x Genomics laboratory.   
• Budget & Resource Oversight: Manage the study budgets, including the oversight of reimbursement, equipment provisioning, and consumables provided to partner sites.
• Regulatory & Quality Compliance: Ensure all study activities comply with IRB protocols, patient consent requirements, and GCLP/CLIA standards where applicable.

Strategic Alliance Management

• Partnership Management: Manage a diverse, high-value portfolio of academic collaborations and strategic partnerships to ensure all projects and agreements track toward established milestones and outcomes.
• Governance Management: Ensure transparent communication, effective decision-making, and rapid conflict resolution between internal teams and external partners; lead and facilitate Joint Steering Committees (JSCs) and cross-functional governance meetings as needed.
• Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary liaison between internal teams and key stakeholders at relevant academic institutions and industry partners to foster strong, collaborative relationships that drive engagement and performance.
• Contract Lifecycle Management: Oversee compliance with contractual obligations, milestones, and deliverables, working closely with Legal, Finance, and Business Development to drive contract amendments or renewals as needed.

To Be Successful, You Will Need:

• An Advanced degree (M.S., PharmD, Ph.D., M.B.A.) in a Life Science, Clinical, or related field is required.
• 8+ years of relevant industry experience with 4-5 years of experience in Clinical Operations and Alliance / Program Management within the diagnostics, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industry.
• Direct experience managing research studies involving large numbers of patient samples and complex molecular testing or biomarkers
• Deep understanding of clinical study execution, site management, and the complexities of clinical sample logistics and chain of custody.
• Direct experience in managing high-value strategic alliances and driving value through the successful execution of collaborative research, development, or commercialization agreements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, swiftly resolve complex operational problems, and drive tangible results.
