DET IT is looking for a Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) – AWS Cloud Engineer to join our IT Engineering organization.
This is a hands-on software engineering role focused on designing, developing, and operating scalable, cloud-native applications on AWS. The ideal candidate has strong experience with AWS serverless technologies, Python development, APIs, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud security.
The candidate should be comfortable owning solutions end-to-end—from architecture and coding through deployment and production support.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate scalable AWS cloud-native and serverless applications.
- Build production-grade AWS Lambda services using Python.
- Design solutions using Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, EventBridge, and CloudWatch.
- Develop REST APIs and event-driven integrations with enterprise systems.
- Build and maintain AWS CloudFormation templates using YAML.
- Develop AWS CodePipeline CI/CD pipelines integrated with GitHub.
- Implement secure AWS solutions using IAM roles/policies and least-privilege access.
- Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and troubleshooting using CloudWatch.
- Drive technical design, code reviews, testing, deployment automation, and production support.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to cloud architecture and engineering standards.
Required Skills
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant hands-on AWS experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS Lambda and Python.
- Strong experience with API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Experience with CloudFormation and YAML templates.
- Experience building AWS CodePipeline CI/CD pipelines with GitHub.
- Strong understanding of serverless and event-driven architecture.
- Experience with REST APIs, JSON, asynchronous processing, and distributed systems.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including coding, testing, debugging, and code reviews.
- Experience owning solutions through design → development → deployment → production support.
- Strong communication and technical problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Desired Skills
- Experience with SQS, SNS, EventBridge, and Step Functions.
- Experience with AWS Secrets Manager and cloud security.
- Experience with AWS networking, KMS, and security.
- Experience building high-volume, highly available serverless applications.
- Experience with enterprise integrations and distributed systems.
- Experience with Splunk, Datadog, or similar observability platforms.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design discussions.
