Role Overview  

In Growth Engineering, our mission is to increase the number of transacting customers and grow their purchase frequency and lifetime value. We build platforms and services that power Coupang’s growth and marketing efficiency, including Search Advertising, Affiliate, Display targeting, CRM, Audience, and Push Marketing, along with core services for user profiles, landing, tracking, and attribution. As an Android Software Engineer, you will design, build, and operate high-quality mobile experiences and platform capabilities used by Coupang customers. You will serve as a technical owner for Android architecture and engineering quality, making sound decisions on modularization, performance, reliability, security, testing, and maintainability. You will also use AI tools responsibly to accelerate implementation, generate and review code, improve test coverage, and explore solutions across Android, iOS, and Web while maintaining appropriate engineering judgment and quality standards. This role requires strong technical leadership. You will influence architecture and execution across teams, mentor engineers, drive quality improvements, and work closely with product, design, backend, data, and platform partners to deliver simple, reliable, and customer-focused solutions.

What You Will Do  

• Own the architecture and technical direction of Android applications and shared mobile capabilities, balancing customer experience, delivery speed, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
• Design, implement, and operate robust Android features and services across the full software development lifecycle.
• Establish and continuously improve engineering quality standards, including code review, testing, observability, release safety, performance, reliability, and security.
• Lead technical discussions, clarify tradeoffs, and make pragmatic architecture decisions in ambiguous and fast-moving environments.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, refactoring, documentation, test generation, and debugging while validating outputs for correctness, security, maintainability, and compliance.
• Apply strong cross-platform engineering judgment to support or prototype iOS, PC, and Web solutions with AI assistance, collaborating with specialists where appropriate.
• Improve automated test coverage and engineering feedback loops, including unit, integration, UI, regression, and production validation where appropriate.
• Partner with product managers, designers, backend engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to translate customer and business needs into clear technical solutions and execution plans.
• Investigate complex production issues, lead root-cause analysis, and drive durable fixes and preventive improvements.
• Communicate technical designs, risks, progress, and decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications  

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial experience building and operating production Android applications.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and the Android SDK, with solid understanding of Android application architecture, lifecycle, concurrency, networking, and performance optimization.
• Experience designing maintainable Android architectures using appropriate patterns for modularization, dependency management, state management, and separation of concerns.
• Demonstrated ownership of software quality, including test strategy, code review, CI/CD, observability, release management, and production issue resolution.
• Experience delivering complex software systems from design through launch and operation.
• Experience influencing technical direction and engineering practices across a team or multiple teams.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, communicate effectively, and provide technical leadership without relying solely on organizational authority.
• Experience independently owning medium-to-large initiatives and influencing architecture and execution across teams without direct reporting authority.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted programming tools to improve development productivity, code quality, testing, or debugging, with the ability to critically review and validate AI-generated output.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Written and verbal communication skills in English are required for effective collaboration with global teams.

Preferred Qualifications  

• Experience building large-scale consumer-facing mobile applications with demanding requirements for performance, reliability, experimentation, and rapid release cycles.
• Experience with mobile observability, crash and ANR analysis, performance profiling, feature flags, experimentation, and staged rollout strategies.
• Working knowledge of iOS, Swift, Web, PC, or shared cross-platform development, and the ability to use AI assistance to contribute effectively outside a primary platform.
• Experience integrating mobile applications with distributed backend services, analytics, and personalization or marketing platforms.
• Familiarity with AI coding agents, code-generation workflows, prompt design, automated code review, and secure software development practices for AI-assisted engineering.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work backwards from customers to deliver simple solutions.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and agile environment.
