What you’ll do (day to day)

• Establish and drive clear, effective, and innovative solution designs aligning to The Hartford’s reference architectures, blueprints, and business and IT strategies across our Digital properties, with a focus on AI and strategic thinking.

• Translate strategy into end‑to‑end solution designs spanning mobile, responsive web, APIs, microservices/micro‑frontends, data, and cloud infrastructure.

• Produce option analyses and decision records balancing strategic alignment, security, reliability, complexity, and cost.

• Design solutions leveraging SaaS and Native Cloud architectures and services, focusing on rationalizing and modernizing assets.

• Advance digital identity and zero‑trust patterns across experiences; ensure alignment with enterprise security standards.

• Partner with value streams on roadmaps and increments; ensure designs meet non‑functional expectations and are operable (telemetry, SLOs, runbooks).

• Evaluate and land emerging Technologies where it demonstrably improves outcomes.

• Align to architecture governance: reviews, permits to build, conformance checks, and pragmatic exceptions when warranted.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, or Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). 

What you’ll do (day to day)

• Establish and drive clear, effective, and innovative solution designs aligning to The Hartford’s reference architectures, blueprints, and business and IT strategies across our Digital properties, with a focus on AI and strategic thinking.

• Translate strategy into end‑to‑end solution designs spanning mobile, responsive web, APIs, microservices/micro‑frontends, data, and cloud infrastructure.

• Produce option analyses and decision records balancing strategic alignment, security, reliability, complexity, and cost.

• Design solutions leveraging SaaS and Native Cloud architectures and services, focusing on rationalizing and modernizing assets.

• Advance digital identity and zero‑trust patterns across experiences; ensure alignment with enterprise security standards.

• Partner with value streams on roadmaps and increments; ensure designs meet non‑functional expectations and are operable (telemetry, SLOs, runbooks).

• Evaluate and land emerging Technologies where it demonstrably improves outcomes.

• Align to architecture governance: reviews, permits to build, conformance checks, and pragmatic exceptions when warranted.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in Solution Architecture, Application Architecture, or Senior Software Engineering within a large enterprise environment.

• Experience in the Small Commercial Insurance industry.

• Proven success designing and delivering cloud-based solutions in AWS and/or Google Cloud.

• Experience with:

  • Microservices and service-oriented architectures

  • API and event-driven integrations (REST, SOAP)

• Hands-on experience with Generative AI and Machine Learning, including:

  • Large Language Models (LLMs)

  • Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)

  • Semantic Search

  • Embedding Models

  • Agentic AI architectures

• Knowledge of Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM) and modern authentication standards (OAuth2, OIDC).

• Experience building modern web applications using Angular, React, or similar frameworks.

• Strong understanding of:

  • APIs, REST, JSON, and HTTP standards

  • Cloud and hybrid-cloud environments

  • Containerized applications and orchestration platforms

• Experience applying product thinking, measuring success through KPIs, and balancing reliability, scalability, and cost.

• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and mentor technical teams.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

• Cloud and Architecture certifications are a plus.

Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
