As an Principal Software Engineer within PNC's C&IB Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA, Dallas, TX, or Strongsville, OH.We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Principal Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and modernization of enterprise-scale web applications. This role is primarily focused on front-end architecture, user experience, and Angular development, while maintaining ownership and influence across the full technology stack.
As a technical leader, you will drive engineering excellence, establish front-end standards, mentor teams, and collaborate closely with Product, UX, and Engineering stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions. You will play a key role in defining the technical vision and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
• Define and drive front-end architecture strategies for large-scale enterprise applications.
• Serve as the technical authority for Angular and modern web development best practices.
• Establish coding standards, architectural patterns, and engineering guidelines.
• Lead technical design reviews and provide guidance on complex system design decisions.
• Influence technology roadmaps and modernization initiatives.
Front-End Development
• Design and develop responsive, accessible, and high-performance user interfaces using Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Create reusable component libraries and design system implementations.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Partner with UX designers to translate complex business requirements into intuitive user experiences.
• Drive adoption of accessibility (WCAG) and usability standards.
Full Stack Engineering
• Collaborate with back-end engineers to design scalable APIs and microservices.
• Contribute to architecture and development efforts across .NET, Java, Node.js, or similar platforms.
• Ensure seamless integration between front-end applications and backend services.
• Support cloud-native application development and deployment strategies.
• Evaluate and implement modern technologies and frameworks.
Collaboration & Mentorship
• Mentor senior engineers and development teams on architecture, front-end development, and engineering best practices.
• Lead technical discussions and facilitate knowledge sharing across teams.
• Partner with Product Management, UX, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership during planning, estimation, and delivery activities.
Quality & Engineering Excellence
• Champion automated testing, CI/CD practices, and code quality standards.
• Implement strategies to improve reliability, observability, and application performance.
• Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and enterprise development standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering teams.
Qualifications
• Proven experience serving as a technical lead, principal engineer, or architect.
• Strong expertise in:
○ Angular (latest versions)
○ TypeScript
○ JavaScript (ES6+)
○ HTML5 and CSS3
○ Responsive and mobile-first design
○ RESTful APIs
○ Modern UI architecture patterns
• Experience with backend development using technologies such as .NET, Java, Node.js, or similar.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Strong understanding of security, scalability, and performance optimization.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience building enterprise design systems and component libraries.
• Experience with Angular Material, NgRx, RxJS, or similar frameworks.
• Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience implementing accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1+).
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or other CI/CD platforms.
• Experience in Agile and DevSecOps environments.

Pay Transparency
Base Salary: $91,000.00 – $185,900.00Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.Application Window
