As a Software Engineer II on the Web Client Engineering team within the WARP organization, you will take on meaningful ownership of features and systems within the Crunchyroll web application, one of the primary ways millions of fans around the world discover and watch anime. Working with JavaScript and TypeScript, you will build, optimize, and evolve a large-scale web application that demands thoughtful engineering at every layer.
This is a software engineering role. The technology stack is centered on web technologies, but the challenges are those you would find on any serious platform team: performance optimization at scale, complex state and data management, cross-team integration, and delivering reliable experiences to a global, high-traffic audience. You will have the autonomy to drive features from design to delivery and the support of a strong engineering team to accelerate your growth.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement features and improvements for the Crunchyroll web application using JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Own the delivery of well-scoped projects from technical design through testing and release.
- Improve application performance, reliability, and developer experience across the web client.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and platform engineering teams to align on requirements and technical approaches.
- Contribute to engineering best practices through code reviews, design discussions, and documentation.
- Help identify technical debt and propose pragmatic solutions to address it.
- Support operational excellence through participation in on-call rotations, monitoring, and incident response.
- Mentor newer engineers through pairing, code review, and knowledge sharing.
About You
- You have 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- You are proficient in JavaScript and/or TypeScript, or have strong fundamentals in another language and are ready to work primarily in these technologies.
- You can take a well-defined problem, break it down, and deliver a working solution with minimal guidance.
- You have experience building or contributing to web applications used by real users.
- You communicate effectively and collaborate naturally across teams and disciplines.
- You are proactive about improving the systems and processes around you.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Vue.js, React, or similar frameworks in a production environment.
- Familiarity with web performance profiling, accessibility, and responsive design at scale.
- Experience with observability tooling such as Datadog for monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Exposure to server-side rendering, edge delivery, or content delivery patterns.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and feature flag infrastructure.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
