Overview
We are seeking an experienced ServiceNow Developer to design, build, and enhance scalable solutions across the ServiceNow platform. This role focuses on secure API integrations, custom development, intuitive user experiences, IT Service Management (ITSM), and modern ServiceNow capabilities.
The position requires on-site work in Richmond, Virginia, three days per week with no exceptions. Local Richmond-area candidates are preferred due to the on-site requirement.

Job Description
The ServiceNow Developer will design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain ServiceNow applications and platform enhancements that support enterprise business and technology requirements. The role will work closely with stakeholders, product owners, architects, and support teams to translate requirements into secure, maintainable, and scalable technical solutions.
The developer will build integrations and custom platform functionality, configure and extend ITSM capabilities, create accessible user experiences, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and support platform upgrades and releases. The role will also contribute to development standards, automated testing, source control, release management, reusable components, technical documentation, and the evaluation of artificial intelligence and automation opportunities within ServiceNow.
Responsibilities
ServiceNow Development & Configuration
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain ServiceNow applications and platform enhancements.
- Develop business rules, script includes, client scripts, UI policies, scripted REST APIs, and Flow Designer workflows.
- Configure and extend ServiceNow ITSM capabilities, including Incident, Problem, Change, Request, Knowledge, Service Catalog, and CMDB.
- Develop reusable ServiceNow components that support scalability, maintainability, and consistent platform standards.
- Support ServiceNow platform upgrades, releases, enhancements, and ongoing technical improvements.
Integrations & APIs
- Design and implement secure, reliable enterprise integrations using REST, SOAP, webhooks, IntegrationHub, MID Server, and related technologies.
- Develop and maintain scripted REST APIs and integration components.
- Apply appropriate authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, and security practices to integrations.
- Troubleshoot complex API, integration, data, and connectivity issues.
User Experience & Platform Solutions
- Create intuitive and accessible user experiences across Employee Center, Service Portal, configurable workspaces, forms, catalogs, and mobile experiences.
- Apply user-centered design, accessibility, security, and maintainability principles to ServiceNow solutions.
- Work with UI Builder and related ServiceNow capabilities to create effective platform experiences.
Quality, Security & Release Management
- Apply ServiceNow development standards, security controls, automated testing, and code-review practices.
- Participate in source control, testing, deployment, and release-management activities.
- Troubleshoot complex platform, integration, data, and performance issues.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for developed solutions and reusable components.
Collaboration & Innovation
- Partner with stakeholders, product owners, architects, support teams, and other technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts and recommendations clearly to diverse audiences.
- Evaluate opportunities to use ServiceNow AI, generative AI, automation, and related platform capabilities to improve processes and user experiences.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- 4 years of experience with ServiceNow development and configuration.
- 3 years of experience with JavaScript and ServiceNow client-side and server-side scripting.
- 2 years of experience with API integration design, security, and troubleshooting.
- 2 years of experience with REST/SOAP, JSON/XML, OAuth 2.0, authentication, logging, and monitoring.
- 2 years of experience with ServiceNow ITSM processes and modules.
- 2 years of experience with Flow Designer, IntegrationHub, Service Catalog, ACLs, and automated testing.
- 2 years of experience with ServiceNow data models, tables, reference relationships, and CMDB.
- 2 years of experience with user-centered solution design, accessibility, security, and maintainability.
- 2 years of experience with testing, code review, source control, and release-management practices.
- 3 years of analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication experience.
- 3 years of experience collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- 2 years of experience with Employee Center, Service Portal, UI Builder, and configurable workspaces.
- 2 years of experience with ServiceNow AI capabilities such as Now Assist, generative AI, Predictive Intelligence, Virtual Agent, or AI Search.
- 2 years of experience with enterprise integrations and accessibility, along with CSA, CAD, CIS-ITSM, and/or ITIL certification experience as specified for the role.
- Must physically reside within the United States for the entire duration of the assignment in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia security policies.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
- Must be able and willing to work on-site in Richmond, Virginia, three days per week with no exceptions.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience with additional ServiceNow domains such as ITOM, CSM, HRSD, IRM/GRC, or App Engine.
- 2 years of experience with automated deployment pipelines, Agile delivery, and DevOps practices.

Compensation
This is a 1099 Contract role with an hourly pay range of $69 – $89 per hour.
