YOUR NEW ROLE

As a Platform Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of Platform Engineers responsible for building, operating, and evolving the platforms that enable software delivery across NAB. You will drive the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of cloud-native platforms, developer experience, DevSecOps capabilities, and infrastructure automation.

This role combines people's leadership, technical expertise, and strategic thinking. You will partner with engineering, architecture, security, and operations teams to deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and cost-effective platform solutions while fostering a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.

Lead High-Performing Teams

• Build, mentor, and develop a team of Platform Engineers.

• Drive a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

• Support career development, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.

Define and Execute Platform Strategy

• Own and execute the Platform Engineering roadmap aligned with business and technology objectives.

• Drive adoption of platform engineering best practices, self-service capabilities, and developer enablement.

• Collaborate with engineering leaders, architects, and stakeholders to prioritize platform investments.

Deliver Scalable and Secure Platforms

• Lead the design and delivery of cloud-native platform capabilities supporting enterprise-scale applications.

• Ensure platforms are highly available, resilient, secure, and operationally efficient.

• Drive platform modernization and automation initiatives.

Champion DevSecOps and Developer Experience

• Establish DevSecOps practices across the software delivery lifecycle.

• Improve developer productivity through automation, CI/CD, platform self-service, and internal developer platforms.

• Embed security, compliance, and risk controls into engineering workflows.

Drive Reliability and Operational Excellence

• Define and govern platform SLOs, SLIs, and operational metrics.

• Lead incident management, problem resolution, and continuous improvement activities.

• Ensure operational resilience, scalability, and performance across platform services.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

Leadership & Experience

• 10+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, Cloud Engineering, or related fields.

• 3+ years of people leadership experience managing engineering teams.

• Proven track record delivering large-scale cloud and platform initiatives in enterprise environments.

Technical Expertise

• Strong software engineering background with Java and/or Python.

• Deep expertise in AWS and Azure cloud platforms.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native technologies.

• Strong knowledge of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Internal Developer Platforms (IDP).

• Experience building and managing enterprise CI/CD platforms using tools such as GitHub Actions, Harness, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, ArgoCD, or GitLab.

• Expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, OpenTofu, CloudFormation, or Bicep.

• Strong understanding of GitOps, automation, and developer self-service platforms.

• Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Datadog, ELK/OpenSearch, CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor.

• Strong understanding of SRE principles, reliability engineering, and operational excellence.

Security & Risk

• Experience implementing DevSecOps, cloud security, container security, vulnerability management, and compliance automation.

• Strong appreciation of security, governance, and risk management within regulated environments.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

• Ability to influence technical strategy and drive cross-functional collaboration.

• Strong stakeholder management, decision-making, and communication skills.

• Proven experience balancing engineering excellence, reliability, security, and cost optimization.

Good to Have

• Experience with Backstage or Internal Developer Platform frameworks.

• Knowledge of FinOps and cloud cost optimization.

• Experience leveraging AI/GenAI for developer productivity, platform automation, operations, and engineering efficiency.

• Experience in Banking, Financial Services, or other highly regulated industries.

• AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, or Terraform certifications.

Qualification Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in technology related degree
