WHY BOX NEEDS YOU?

At Box, our platform powers the secure management and movement of content for millions of users worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, you'll join one of our core platform engineering teams responsible for building and operating the critical infrastructure behind authentication, secure access, content transfers, and enterprise collaboration.

Depending on business needs and your experience, you'll join a team focused on either:

• Device Security – building secure access services, trusted device infrastructure, authentication, identity, and enterprise security capabilities.
• Storage Clients – developing the large-scale backend services powering uploads, downloads, file synchronization, email integrations, and collaboration across Box's global storage platform.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Develop new backend features focused on high scale and performance.
• Design and implement auto-scaling solutions for microservices.
• Solve challenges related to distributed systems at scale.
• Measure system performance; identify bottlenecks; optimize accordingly.
• Build internal tools supporting testing automation, deployment pipelines & product support.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across geographies (Poland & USA).
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups and sprint planning.
• Contribute code reviews ensuring quality standards are met consistently.
• Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

WHO YOU ARE:

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend systems.
• Strong Java/Scala development experience in production environments.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale.
• Strong understanding of system reliability, scalability, performance, and software architecture.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring other engineers.
• Comfortable working in mature production environments with high quality standards.
• Experience with Kubernetes and at least one major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
• Fluent in English.
