About the Role

LifeMD is seeking a Medical Director to provide clinical leadership across our multi-vertical telehealth platform. This role holds physician-level accountability for the quality, safety, and compliance of clinical care delivered through our network of MD/DOs and nurse practitioners (NPs), and partners closely with product and clinical operations teams to shape how care is delivered at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

Physician Supervision & Accountability

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate MD/DO providers across the platform's clinical verticals
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics for physicians (e.g., quality of documentation, adherence to protocol, patient outcomes, escalation handling, complaint/incident rates)
  • Partner with the Clinical NP Manager to co-drive accountability for overall clinical performance across the combined physician and NP workforce
  • Conduct or oversee periodic chart audits and peer review

Collaborating Physician Duties

  •  Serve as collaborating/supervising physician for NPs in states where state law requires a collaborative practice or supervision agreement
  • Maintain compliant, up-to-date collaborative practice agreements in each applicable state, including required chart review percentages, meeting cadence, and documentation standards
  • Monitor changes in state NP scope-of-practice law (full practice authority vs. reduced/restricted) and adjust collaboration structures accordingly, in coordination with legal/compliance
  • Administrative support in Full Practice Authority (FPA) states, NPs may practice independently without a collaborating physician; this role's supervisory obligations in those states are administrative/quality-based rather than a legal collaboration requirement

Clinical Protocol Development

  • Develop, review, and maintain evidence-based clinical protocols and treatment guidelines across the platform's service lines
  • Ensure protocols reflect current clinical guidelines, incorporate risk mitigation, and are updated as new evidence or regulatory guidance emerges
  • Standardize protocols across verticals where clinically appropriate while allowing for vertical-specific nuance

Product & New Vertical Review

  •  Participate in clinical review of new products, service lines, and platform features prior to launch
  • Assess proposed new verticals for clinical appropriateness, regulatory risk, and staffing/scope-of-practice implications
  • Serve as clinical subject-matter expert in cross-functional product planning meetings
  • Partner closely with the SVP of Operations on the business and operational implications of new products, staffing models, and clinical capacity planning

Quality, Risk & Compliance

  • Identify and respond to clinical risk trends (e.g., adverse events, malpractice exposure, prescribing pattern outliers)
  • Partner with Legal/Compliance on licensing, credentialing, and multi-state regulatory requirements
  • Support incident investigations and corrective action plans
  • Serve as a voting member of the Quality & Patient Safety Committee (QPSC)
  • Lead or participate in root cause analyses (RCAs) for adverse events, near-misses, and clinical practice issues, and ensure corrective action plans are implemented and tracked to closure
  • Champion a culture of clinical quality and patient safety across all provider types and verticals, including trend monitoring, peer review findings, and safety event reporting

Physician Administration

  • As the direct manager of the physician staff, review and approve physician timecards and payroll submissions on a recurring basis
  • Manage physician payroll, including compensation calculation, bonus/incentive structures tied to clinical performance, and timely resolution of payroll discrepancies
  • Partner with Finance and Legal on physician compensation structure, contract terms, and payroll system administration

Requirements

  • MD or DO with active, unrestricted medical license (multi-state licensure or willingness to obtain additional state licenses preferred)
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine)
  • 8+ years of clinical practice experience including experience in the telehealth space
  • Experience supervising or collaborating with NPs and/or PAs, ideally across multiple states
  • Familiarity with telehealth care delivery models and multi-state regulatory/licensing considerations
  • Demonstrated experience developing clinical protocols or guidelines

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a Medical Director or similar clinical leadership role at a telehealth or multi-site healthcare company
  • Experience across multiple clinical verticals (e.g., primary care, weight management, mental health, urgent care, women’s health, men’s health)
  • Familiarity with EHR/telehealth platforms and clinical quality metrics/reporting
  • Experience navigating state-by-state NP scope-of-practice variation

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, multi-vertical environment where protocols and products evolve quickly
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with the Clinical NP Manager and Product teams
  • Ability to translate clinical judgment into scalable, auditable protocols
  • Working knowledge of telehealth-specific regulatory issues (e.g., DEA/controlled substance prescribing rules, interstate licensure, corporate practice of medicine restrictions)

Benefits

  • Salary: $325,000-365,000 annually
  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, Roth 401k)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Flexible Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Short Term Disability
  • Training & Development
  • LifeMD paid medical licensing for additional states
  • Malpractice insurance coverage
