About the Position:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Laboratory Assistant to support laboratory operations by performing routine tasks, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
Specific Responsibilities:
Prepare and process samples according to established procedures and protocols.
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration and basic troubleshooting.
Assist in the preparation of reagents, solutions, and media.
Perform routine laboratory tests and analyses under supervision.
Accurately record and document all experimental data and observations.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of waste.
Monitor inventory of supplies and reagents, and assist with ordering when necessary.
Adhere to all safety regulations, quality control standards, and company policies.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding work progress and any issues.
Participate in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic understanding of laboratory safety procedures and practices.
Proficiency in using standard laboratory equipment.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in a science-related field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science) is an asset.
Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs./9 kg. on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
Ability to stand for a full shift;
Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
Our benefits include:
An estimated hourly pay of $22.77 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
