Location: All of North America; Canada travel

Position Summary

The Geotechnical Superintendent is, first and foremost, a strong field leader — responsible for organizing, directing, and motivating craft employees and subcontractors, instilling discipline and accountability on site, and setting the daily standard for safety, quality, and productivity. This role carries full ownership of field execution, from planning and scheduling to enforcing company policies and procedures. Candidates with a military leadership background (NCO, Officer, or equivalent) are strongly encouraged to apply — the structure, discipline, and mission-focused leadership required to lead troops translates directly to leading crews in the field, and can be considered in lieu of some civilian field experience. Exposure to geotechnical or specialty civil construction (slurry walls, deep foundations, ground improvement) is a plus. Responsible for the coordination and support of subcontractor field operations.

Forgen Overview

Forgen is a leading geotechnical and specialty civil construction company operating across North America. We are dedicated to delivering innovative solutions for complex civil, geotechnical, and environmental challenges, guided by our core values: We Do What We Say, We Are Passionate About Our Work, We Are One Team, We Work Smart, and We Do The Right Thing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-site field leader — leading by example, setting the tone for discipline, accountability, and standards across all crews and shifts, in the same way a military leader owns the readiness and conduct of their unit.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop foremen and crew leads in the field, building bench strength, a clear chain of command, and a culture of ownership and accountability.
  • Organize, direct, and motivate craft employees and subcontractors to execute the daily mission — planning day-to-day field activities and ensuring every crew understands the objective, standards, and safety expectations before work begins.
  • Supervise work performance and productivity of craft employees and subcontractors to ensure project rules, procedures, specifications, and safety requirements are followed.
  • Promote and support a positive Incident and Injury Free Safety Performance, including leading daily tailgate/safety briefings and pre-task planning — instilling the same rigor and attention to detail expected in a military operational briefing.
  • Assist with selection and hiring of project craft personnel.
  • Maintain daily reports such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and email correspondence. Ensure that all daily field tracking reports are accurate.
  • Assist in planning work schedule, determining manpower levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc. at least two weeks in advance.
  • Ability to review and use project schedules to plan and direct field activities.
  • Ability to recognize potential changes in scope or conditions and communicate them clearly and quickly up the chain.
  • Enforce and adhere to the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Enforce and report all possible or perceived violations of local, state, or federal regulations or permits.
  • Responsible for the safe and profitable operation, maintenance, and reporting of all assigned project equipment.
  • Support field execution of specialty geotechnical operations (e.g., slurry walls, deep foundations, and ground improvement), partnering with project engineers and specialty subcontractors to ensure work meets design specifications — training provided.
  • Recognize and assist in all company’s bidding opportunities to include site visits, proposal writing, estimating, and scheduling.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ten plus years of field leadership experience directly supervising teams in construction, heavy civil, or military operational environments.
  • Prior military service with leadership experience (NCO, Officer, or equivalent) strongly preferred — demonstrated ability to lead, train, and hold teams accountable under pressure, enforce standards, and execute complex operations in demanding conditions.
  • Proven, hands-on field leadership: ability to organize, direct, and motivate crews and subcontractors, build a clear chain of command, and instill discipline and accountability on site.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead diverse field teams and subcontractors and drive performance on site.
  • Skilled in resolving complex issues, training craft labor, and handling challenging situations effectively.
  • Strong commitment to safety, ethics, and high-quality work, with a proactive, mission-driven mindset.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and decision-making abilities — the kind honed leading teams in high-stakes, fast-changing environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering, codes, standards, equipment, and quality control (or the demonstrated ability to learn quickly).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong communication and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive on behalf of company business.

Preferred Qualifications

The following safety training is preferred, but not mandatory. Company will provide additional training, as necessary.

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training
  • Competent Person Safety Training
  • 8-Hour Supervisory Training
  • 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training
  • Rigging and Signal Person Training
  • First Aid and CPR

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.

This job description outlines the general scope of work and is not exhaustive. Employees may be assigned additional duties as needed. Requirements may be adjusted to accommodate disabilities, except where they pose a direct safety risk.

Perks and Benefits

Forgen offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, bonuses, paid time off, and more. We support a flexible work model for most non-craft positions and provide additional perks like education assistance, wellness programs, and employee awards.
