The Fulfillment Specialist is a critical hire for our Partnership's team. You will own a key retail partnership end to end, from the moment an order is placed to the moment it lands on the shelf, making sure every shipment moves cleanly through our Strategic Partnerships network and lands compliant, on time, and without surprises.

You are the connective tissue between our retail partners, our strategic partners, and our internal teams. When something threatens to go sideways, a routing exception, a co-packer delay, a compliance flag, you catch it early, communicate clearly, and drive it to resolution.

You have a passion for operational precision, love owning something end to end, and are energized by keeping a lot of moving pieces on track without letting anything slip!

What You'll Own

Order Management

Own the full lifecycle of order processing, routing, and shipping for your assigned retail partnership.
Track orders from placement through delivery, proactively resolving issues before they become delays.

Compliance

Ensure every shipment adheres to retailer-specific requirements and routing guides.
Stay ahead of changing compliance standards and flag gaps before they result in chargebacks or rejected shipments.

Co-packer Coordination

Serve as the primary point of contact for our strategic partners, coordinating production schedules and shipping timelines.
Resolve issues quickly and keep schedules on track through clear, proactive communication.

Reporting & Cross-Functional Collaboration

Track order status and provide data-driven operational visibility to the broader team.
Partner closely with logistics, sales, and customer service to keep everyone aligned and informed.

Requirements

Experience in operations, fulfillment, or supply chain roles.
Intermediate in Spreadsheets (formulas, pivot tables, data reporting)
Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to build strong relationships with external partners.
Strong organizational skills that hold up under pressure and during high-volume periods.
A proactive ownership mindset, you spot problems before they're pointed out to you.

Preferred

Experience working with retail partnerships and routing guides/compliance requirements.
Familiarity with co-packer or third-party manufacturing relationships.
Experience with order management or ERP systems.

Orders move through the full cycle, processing to delivery, without surprises.
Compliance issues are caught and corrected before they become chargebacks.
Strategic Partners hit their schedules because you're staying ahead of them, not chasing them.
Internal teams have clear visibility into order status without needing to chase you for updates.

Back to the Roots is an Oakland, California based company founded in 2009 by two UC Berkeley seniors, Alejandro Velez and Nikhil Arora, who gave up corporate jobs to become urban mushroom farmers. Our first product was the Mushroom Kit that allowed anyone to grow fresh, organic mushrooms right out of a little brown box in just ten days. We next developed and pioneered the WaterGarden, a self-cleaning fish tank that grows food. Our products are across sold in thousands of locations categories including Whole Foods, Costco, Nordstrom, The Home Depot, Safeway, Kroger, and many other fine retail locations nationwide. Back to the Roots was a Martha Stewart American Made Awards winner and named as one of Forbes 25 Most Innovative Consumer Brands.

Back to the Roots is now working towards re-defining the "future of food" - one that is all about the "undoing of food" back to its simplest ingredients and least processed versions. How do we create and promote food that is made in a kitchen not a lab, and reconnect families back to their food? Our R&D team isn't biochemists and food scientists, it's our grandparents! We think there's a powerful movement that's just starting up around simplicity and un-doing. It is our vision that what "organic brands" were for baby-boomers, radically transparent and simple brands will be for millennials and our kids. Food is the most personal thing there is - it's what we put into our bodies 3x a day - and yet we're so disconnected from it and have so much trust around "new invented foods". We know what works, simple, real food and ingredients - we want to inspire a whole new generation to get excited about that!
