The mission of the client service delivery team at SMX is to create and deploy innovative products to our federal customers. The CFO Control Tower Budget and Spend (BAS) solution is a planning and reporting solution that has been pre-built for the federal government and runs on SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).
This is a unique and exciting role that allows the right candidate to use their deep understanding of federal budgeting and planning processes to help build our next generation planning application. We are looking for an energetic and creative federal financial business analyst to take our solution to the next level and drive value for our federal customers. You will be working alongside a talented team of designers, developers and budget SMEs to help build, enhance, and roll out our best-in-class solution. This is a full-time position that is 100% remote and will require minimal travel <20% and requires a Public Trust clearance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
As a Federal Financial Business Analyst, you will work at the intersection of financial management, business processes, data analytics, and technology. You will partner directly with government stakeholders to analyze complex financial and operational data, improve business processes, develop actionable insights, and support strategic decision-making through data-driven solutions.
This role is ideal for professionals who enjoy solving complex problems, translating data into compelling stories, and helping federal organizations optimize financial and operational performance.
• Develop a deep understanding of client business objectives, financial operations, and strategic priorities.
• Analyze and document business processes, workflows, requirements, and organizational decision-making needs.
• Facilitate workshops and collaborative sessions with stakeholders to identify process improvement opportunities.
• Recommend process, technology, and data solutions that enhance operational efficiency and financial outcomes.
• Review policies, system data structures, and operational procedures to assess impacts on business and financial processes.
• Utilize business intelligence and analytics tools to maximize the value of client data assets.
• Guide clients in adopting solutions that improve operational effectiveness, reporting capabilities, and financial performance.
• Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams to ensure business, data, and technology requirements are aligned and delivered successfully.
• Create quality documentation across all phases of SDLC (RTM, FDD, Design Documents, end user documentation, training guides, online help, etc.)
• Develop test plans, business use cases, and manage test execution.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Public Administration, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Federal financial management
- Business process analysis or management
- Data analytics and reporting
- Management or technology consulting
- Operations analysis or strategic planning
• Experience working with federal government financial data and processes.
• Experience with data analysis, reconciliation, and exception resolution.
• Strong understanding of business process improvement methodologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to explain complex concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a client-facing consulting environment.
• Proficient with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one.
Desired Skills & Experience
• Experience with deploying a financial planning and/or Business Intelligence application.
• Experience with off the shelf BI/Reporting tool (i.e SAP SAC, PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik).
• Experience testing applications.
• Experience developing or modifying business and data models.
• Background in enterprise solution implementations.
