LA28 is the independent, non-profit, privately funded organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 2028 Games mark the return of the Summer Games to the U.S. for the first time in 32 years and Los Angeles’ third time hosting an Olympic Games and first time welcoming the Paralympic Games. This presents the unique and exciting opportunity to celebrate our legacy with the Games and push the Olympic and Paralympic Movements forward, writing a new chapter of Games history in Los Angeles.

Counsel:

The Counsel will be an integral part of the legal team, working closely with the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and broader legal department to advise LA28 on legal matters.  This position will leverage negotiation, relationship-building, critical-thinking and communication skills to (1) support the Games Delivery functional area legal needs, including supporting negotiations with venues and certain commercial and governmental partners, (2) negotiate operational contracts, and (3) draft summaries and legal memoranda.

This position will report to the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support senior members of legal department on identified business transactions and legal matters, including venue use agreements, architecture, engineering, design and construction agreements, venue city agreements and agreements with governmental and other delivery partners. 
  • Steady stream of self-directed analytical work, meetings, and decision-making, including preparing, reviewing and negotiating a variety of legal documents including, but not limited to, confidentiality agreements, memorandums of understanding, term sheets, master services agreements, statements of work, waivers, consents, real estate documents (e.g., lease documents), and legal memoranda or other correspondence and strategic projects. 
  • Work closely with individual departments to anticipate, identify and manage legal exposure and risk management. 
  • Review and understand all relevant corporate/stakeholder documents (including Host City Contract, Olympic Charter, Code of Ethics, etc.). 
  • Work with outside counsel on matters requiring representation. 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable international, federal, state and local laws and regulations. 
  • Keep current on industry-wide legal trends and developments. 

Background & Requirements:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in transactional matters required. 
  • Prior law firm and/or in-house experience. 
  • Experience in construction, architecture and engineering, sports, real estate, live-events, or public law (e.g., public contracting, lobbying, or gifting) is a plus.

  • Demonstrated commitment to co-creation and collaborative decision-making. 
  • Concrete understanding of contract and corporate law, and business transactional principles. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management and business associates. 
  • Excellent judgment, knowing when to escalate issues. 

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited university 
  • A Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited law school 
  • License to practice law, be in good standing with the California State Bar and have the ability to practice law in California. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work on-site in an open office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA 
  • Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods. 
  • Sitting/Standing: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or computer. 
  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in typing and using office equipment, including computers, printers, and phones.

The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000-$150,000. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
