Job Summary
Lafayette Square’s Finance team is seeking a Controller, reporting to the Managing Director, Finance, to manage all accounting, financial reporting and operations of Lafayette Square’s holding company and its subsidiaries, including an investment adviser to a Business Development Company (BDC) and other investment strategies.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead management company accounting, cash management and accounts payable/receivable functions, and vendor management
- Provide leadership and oversight of third-party fund administration accounting team on monthly and quarter-end close processes, preparing accurate and timely financial statements and supporting schedules of the holding company and its subsidiaries
- Work with third-party accounting team on the preparation of annual financial statements and related footnotes
- Manage complex audit and tax engagements with Big 4 service provider for holding company and its subsidiaries
- Develop and scale budgeting, planning and cash forecasting function alongside Managing Director, and periodically track budget vs. actual variances, including the preparation of variance analyses and related commentary
- Prepare financial reporting and analysis for delivery to external company stakeholders
- Manage related party transactions between the holding company and other business lines, working closely with other Lafayette Square teams on shared accounting and business matters
- Work alongside and add value to multiple departments and verticals at holding company by providing finance and accounting insights
- Maintain, improve, and execute all accounts payable and accounts receivable processes and controls
- Oversee the management of vendor contracts with a particular focus on utilization, relevance and renewal terms
- Prepare weekly operational expense summary to ensure timely vendor payments
- Implement and maintain proper documentation regarding the accounting controls and operational procedures
- Provide support and analysis of potential new service providers across various disciplines
- Opportunistically incorporate AI into processes and procedures as well as into developing work product
- Develop and implement best practices for internal employee expense reimbursement software and reporting
- Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and technical accounting memos related to underlying business matters and potential new business lines
Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience in management company accounting, ideally with a private credit/equity fund or hedge fund
- Must have significant experience with Quickbooks
- Experience with general ledger and/or FP&A software implementation a plus
- Strong Excel skills required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP related to fund/investment management
- CPA accreditation highly preferred
- The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- The candidate must also have an enthusiasm for learning and demonstrate the ability to excel under tight deadlines and multiple tasks
- Being a team player with a positive attitude
Compensation:
$125,000 - $175,000 based upon experience
