Position Description

The District Clinical Mentorship Lead is an experienced professional with a clinical background who is responsible for oversight of all clinical mentorship activities at the district. S/he is medically trained and has expertise in HIV prevention, care and treatment, holistic person-centered care, and use of data to inform programming, and has two key roles: 1) oversight and provision of technical guidance to the clinical mentors and nurses who provide mentorship at the facilities, and 2) working hand-in-hand with ministry district coordinators (e.g. HIV/TB, PMTCT, malaria, Maternal neonatal child health, environmental health, cervical cancer, among others) to provide capacity building and conduct joint mentorship. S/he will work closely with clinical mentors, Health diagnostic officers and M & E officers to provide technical support to ministry of health program coordinators and site level MoH staff and support health systems strengthening to support health facilities to transition sustainably to MoH led service delivery.

Essential Duties

• Oversees the clinical mentorship activities at district level.
• In close collaboration with district ministry program leads, provides high-level technical guidance to mentorship teams to ensure achievement of program deliverables
• Medically trained and help provide guidance to the clinical  mentors who provide mentorship at the facilities while providing side-by-side support and joint mentorship with the ministry disease area coordinators (e.g. HIV/TB, PMTCT, malaria, Maternal neonatal child health, environmental health, cervical cancer, among others). 

Key Deliverables

• Weekly update to district technical assistance team lead on the weekly activities conducted, gaps and challenges.
• Site level assessment together with MoH coordinators to identify areas for targeted mentorship that informs scheduling of mentorship activities in the district.
• Weekly written plan of strategies to address site level and district level capacity gaps.
• Submission of reports within set timeline to both the Team lead and central office as scheduled and as required
• Prompt response to all communication to ensure closed loops of communication

Duties and responsibilities

Mentorship and team supervision:

• Develop weekly and monthly district mentorship and capacity building plan and submit them to supervisor for review and approval.
• Coordinate and lead mentorship activities, scheduling, and review of mentorship activities.
• Foster good communication among team members and MoH
• Monitor staff (mentorship teams) performance on weekly basis and provide appropriate feedback and support.

Reporting

• Coordinate the reporting of weekly mentorship activities, and Identify challenges that must be addressed.
• Support MoH with report review and provide mentorship on reporting MoH defined/required indicators.
• Coordinate contributions from the team and submit timely monthly and quarterly reports.

Additional Tasks

• Any other duties and tasks that facilitate the objectives and goals of organizational mandate in the defined period as assigned by the Team Lead.

Requirements

• Highly competent clinical officer or Degree in nursing studies with health systems management skills
• 5+ years of experience implementing or managing programs with public health projects
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Certified ART provider
• Strong oral and written English and Chichewa skills
• Leader with demonstrated ability to work with colleagues at all levels in the organization, and develop and maintain respectful relationships with donors, government and stakeholders.
• Experience monitoring programs and analyzing data.
• Experience with clinical mentorship and capacity building.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as a minimum.
