About The Role:

At KoBold, software engineers have the unique opportunity to embed directly with their users and learn the ins and outs of mineral exploration and geology while developing state of the art technology solutions. Unlike traditional software engineering roles, we don’t simply ship code and passively wait for feedback about its utility: our userbase includes our colleagues… and ourselves! As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you are the technical spearhead of our client engagement in Zambia. Unlike our roaming FDE roles, this is a permanently embedded position. You will be based full-time within the Ministry of Health in Zambia, becoming a long-term extension of the client's operational team. Serve as Sand's Permanent Technical Presence in Zambia

• Embed full-time within the Ministry of Health, becoming a trusted member of the client's extended team

Requirements — Essential

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, data science, system deployment, or technical leadership
• Proficiency in at least one of: Python, SQL/PostgreSQL, JavaScript — with ability to write production-grade code
• Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward action and rapid prototyping
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — comfortable presenting to senior government or corporate stakeholders and translating between technical and non-technical audiences

Work Environment

This is a permanently embedded role. You will work on-site at the Ministry of Health in Zambia 4 days per week, with 1 day for focused remote work, internal collaboration, and knowledge sharing with the broader FDE community. You should expect to be based in Zambia for a minimum of 12-24 months.

In this role, you will generate targets, and design and oversee field programs from target definition through to resource expansion. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will work closely with data scientists, using KoBold’s technology to help guide our field programs and decision-making. Qualifications

• Strong technical knowledge of one or more ore deposit types. Experience working on pegmatite-hosted mineral systems, with a focus on LCT (Lithium–Cesium–Tantalum) pegmatites will be considered an advantage
• Good field skills and experience conducting field programs across a range of project stages from grassroots prospects through to advanced projects with significant drilling campaigns. Experience in early-stage soil sampling and drill programs will be highly regarded.
• Baseline level of proficiency in standard desktop software packages (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS).
• Strong leadership skills including the ability to motivate and inspire others, to share ownership and responsibility for project outcomes, and to work effectively in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams.
• Previous experience in coaching and training geoscientists of varying experience, educational backgrounds and cultures in leading-practice mineral exploration.

Zambold is looking for highly motivated and experienced Exploration Geologists who will be part of our multidisciplinary exploration team. In this role, you will be part of the core team responsible for planning and conducting exploration programs on our properties. You will help develop targets and plans to test them. You will oversee drilling, data collection on drill core, and other field activities from soil sampling to geophysical surveys.  You will help design and implement our proprietary software tools to gain insights from these geoscience data and guide exploration programs in real-time. The Exploration Geologist will:

• Have a working knowledge of sediment-hosted copper deposits 
• Be responsible for geological drill core/chip logging and mapping

• Handle day-to-day management of drilling and sampling campaigns

We are hiring a Field Hardware Engineer  to help accelerate our mission.

About the position

In this role, you will deploy, operate and maintain prototype hardware technology to improve our exploration programs in Zambia. These hardware technologies produce data that feed the algorithms, models, and analysis that the company uses for mineral exploration, first in Zambia and subsequently around the globe. You will work hands-on to further develop Mingomba’s instrumentation and drilling technology.  The data collected by your hardware will create insights that accelerate discovery of critical battery metals.

You will join an outstanding team of data scientists and engineers and will work closely with world-renowned geoscientists to incorporate our best understanding of the chemical and physical processes that create ore deposits.

Ultimately, your role is to help make valuable discoveries by building and deploying next generation hardware to solve scientific problems. 

Responsibilities

The Field Hardware Engineer will:

• Deploy and maintain measurement and instrumentation systems at KoBold’s Mingomba site and other sites around Zambia. 
• Work hands on to design, build, improve, and repair equipment and instrumentation such as imaging systems, lab measurement systems, and drill site systems in the field and in the core shed.  
• Coordinate with KoBold and contractor staff to ensure proper and ongoing operation of measurement and instrumentation systems including conducting operator training. 
• Be the in country lead for deployment of new technologies, coordinating logistics & labor, component receiving and inspection, assembly and validation. 
• Work closely with vendors to successfully deliver complex hardware systems on time and on budget.
• Source vendors and components in Zambia as well as sourcing and importing parts not available in Zambia. 
• Iterate mechanical designs in Solidworks
• Present to and collaborate with our external partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications

A great Field Hardware Engineer candidate will have:

In this role, you will be part of the team responsible for planning and conducting exploration programs on our properties. You will lead projects and develop targets and plans to test them. You  will oversee drilling, data collection on drill core, and other field activities from soil sampling to geophysical surveys. You will help design and implement our proprietary software tools to get insights from geoscience data and to guide exploration programs in real time. You will be a key part of the team that puts these insights into practice in making exploration decisions in the field. You will work closely with both geologists and data scientists in Zambia and around the world.

Responsibilities

The Senior Exploration Geologist will:

• Have a strong working knowledge of sediment-hosted copper deposits 
• Oversee and conduct geological drill core logging
• Be responsible for drill core sampling and geotechnical logging
• Handle day-to-day management of drilling campaigns
• Perform a range of geological analyses to generate and refine targets and geologic models resulting from the data collection programs

Work collaboratively with data scientists and provide mentorship to geology team members 

Qualifications

A great Exploration Geologist candidate will have:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Geology
• At least 10 years of experience in sediment-hosted copper mineral systems
• Significant advanced project experience with exposure to resource development and technical studies requirements
• Familiarity with JORC or Ni:43101 reporting standards
• Excellent communication and reporting skills
• Ability to use geoscience data to think predictively and insightfully about exploration targeting
• Experience with drill core handling procedures such as core logging and sampling
• Experience supervising multiple drill rigs
• Strong intellectual curiosity
• Good computer skills including working knowledge of QGIS and Leapfrog Geo

It is preferred but not required to have:

• Exposure GIS and 3D modeling softwares, such as QGIS/ArcGIS, Leapfrog, Python, and/or ioGAS 

• A valid driver’s license

About the position

In this role, you will lead the targeting, planning and execution of field programs focused on LCT pegmatite systems from target definition through to resource expansion. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will work closely with data scientists, using KoBold’s technology to help guide our field programs and decision-making. You will also work directly with our senior technical advisors and with the executive team on making the investment case for acquisitions and field programs.

Ultimately, your role is to help KoBold make valuable discoveries by identifying opportunities with rigorous evaluation and by ensuring that we safely and effectively conduct our field programs.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate in all activities a commitment to the highest standards in health and safety, environment, and community relations
• Rigorously collect and analyze geoscientific datasets across a range of scales from provinces to prospects to determine exploration potential and to identify, rank, and prioritize exploration targets
• Design, budget, permit, and execute field programs ranging from geological mapping and sampling of grass roots prospects through to large drilling programs on advanced projects, with leading industry practice in data acquisition and validation
• Lead the in-country project team during the design and execution of exploration programs, including site visits and engagement with other project stakeholders (e.g., community representatives, regulatory authorities, and joint venture partners)
• Work collaboratively with data scientist colleagues to conceive and implement insightful analytical methods
• Ability to produce clear, high-quality technical memos that combine rigorous analysis of field data with well-designed, effective graphics.

Qualifications

• Strong technical knowledge of one or more ore deposit types. Experience working on pegmatite-hosted mineral systems, with a focus on LCT (Lithium–Cesium–Tantalum) pegmatites will be considered an advantage
• Excellence in generative analysis ranging from new concepts to integration, interpretation, and modeling of large datasets
• Good field skills and experience leading field programs across a range of project stages from grassroots prospects through to advanced projects with significant drilling campaigns. Experience leading early-stage soil sampling and drilling programs is highly regarded.
• Baseline level of proficiency in standard desktop software packages (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS)
• Strong leadership skills including the ability to motivate and inspire others, to share ownership and responsibility for project outcomes, and to work effectively in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams
• Previous experience in coaching and training geoscientists of varying experience, educational backgrounds and cultures in leading-practice mineral exploration
• Demonstrated commitment to high standards of health and safety in the workplace
• A minimum of 10 years experience in the mineral exploration industry
• Resident in Zambia or willing and able to relocate.
• A valid driver’s license

It is helpful but not required to have:

• Working knowledge of one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, R, C/C++)
• Knowledge of geostatistics and/or other statistical methods relevant for analysis of geoscientific data
• Experience across more than one mineral system, particularly if that includes mineralization within felsic igneous systems, or in the Central African Copperbelt.

It is preferred but not required to have:

• Working knowledge with GIS and 3D modeling softwares, such as QGIS/ArcGIS, Leapfrog, Python, and/or ioGAS
