Scope of Responsibilities
- Develop AI/ML/DS systems to address defense problems.
- Develop new AI-based stack of technologies for particular customer needs.
- Development of evaluation solutions for AI deployments.
- Lead the end-to-end execution of AI projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timely delivery.
- Work closely with partner teams, including AI research, data engineering, and software development, to deliver robust AI systems.
- Collaborate with the AI leadership to clearly define product and applications scope, translating high-level requirements into actionable technical plans and delivering AI platforms and solutions.
- Drive the development of scalable, AI-based platforms designed to support and power solutions for a diverse range of customers within the defense ecosystem.
- Champion the introduction of new AI innovations. Stay current with the rapidly evolving fields of Artificial Intelligence, Large Language Models (LLMs), and agentic systems, and actively transfer this knowledge and best practices for implementation across the team.
- Mentor and guide other team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and high-impact work.
- Create agentic AI systems, using AI orchestrators and particular AI reasoning capabilities as tools.
Qualifications

- Oversee the full lifecycle of AI projects within Govini AI ecosystem.
- Understanding of coding AI (such as Claude Code) and experience how to use it to scale up AI team deliveries

As a Resident Solutions Architect (RSA) on our Professional Services team, you will work with customers on short to medium term customer engagements on their big data challenges using the Databricks platform. You will provide data engineering, data science, and cloud technology projects which require integrating with client systems, training, and other technical tasks to help customers to get most value out of their data. RSAs are billable and know how to complete projects according to specification with excellent customer service. You will report to the regional Manager/Lead.
The impact you will have:
- Handle a variety of impactful customer technical projects which may include designing and building reference architectures, creating how-to's and productionalizing customer use cases
- Work with engagement managers to scope variety of professional services work with input from the customer
- Guide strategic customers as they implement transformational big data projects, 3rd party migrations, including end-to-end design, build and deployment of industry-leading big data and AI applications
- Consult on architecture and design; bootstrap or implement customer projects which leads to a customers' successful understanding, evaluation and adoption of Databricks.
- Provide an escalated level of support for customer operational issues

About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior ML Engineer (Technical Lead) with deep hands-on expertise in machine learning and computer vision, who can also lead DoD-focused programs, own customer engagement, contribute to business development, and help grow and manage a local engineering team in McLean over time. You’ll lead end-to-end technical delivery – from data to deployment – while serving as the primary technical point of contact for our customers.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building production-grade ML systems, mentoring engineers, and translating complex technical work into compelling customer outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Lead programs end-to-end: Scope requirements, set technical strategy and milestones, plan resourcing, manage risks, and deliver results for DoD-focused ML/CV projects.
- Own customer relationships: Run technical discussions, requirement discovery, demos, standing meetings, and briefings with senior stakeholders; turn feedback into clear roadmaps.
- Stay deeply hands-on (50–70%):
- Build data pipelines, train/evaluate CV models, and write production code.
- Design, train, and optimize detection/segmentation/tracking models and custom computer-vision pipelines; handle imbalanced data, domain shift, and real-world constraints.
- Deploy models to production (typically on the edge), instrument for monitoring, and iterate with CI/CD.
- Contribute to business development: Write technical sections of proposals/white papers, help shape capture strategy, provide level-of-effort estimates, and present prototypes.
- Communicate and publish: Present results to high-level DoD and industry customers; author technical reports; publish novel work in classified/unclassified settings when applicable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years designing, building, and deploying machine learning systems in production (8+ preferred). Strong track record leading technical delivery for complex projects.
- ML/CV expertise:
- Deep understanding of ML fundamentals (e.g., gradient descent, cross-validation, ROC/PR curves, confusion matrices, mAP).
- Computer vision experience with modern architectures (e.g., YOLO family, CenterNet, RetinaNet, Detectron2, ViTs, segmentation networks), augmentation strategies, and evaluation.
- Experience with data curation/annotation workflows and dataset quality control.
- Software engineering: Python (NumPy, scipy, pandas/polars), PyTorch (preferred) or TensorFlow, git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code quality practices.
- MLOps & deployment: Experiment tracking, Docker, ONNX/TensorRT, deploying inference services to the edge (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson).
- Communication & leadership: Excellent technical communication, customer-facing experience, and proven ability to lead cross-functional efforts.
- Education: B.S. in engineering, math, computer science, or related field; M.S./Ph.D. preferred.
- Clearance: Eligibility for U.S. security clearance. This requires U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications (Bonus)
- Prior Department of Defense project experience, including briefing senior stakeholders and navigating DoD acquisition processes.
- Active Secret or TS/SCI clearance; experience working in classified environments.
- Experience managing or mentoring engineers; contributing to hiring and performance development.
- Experience with proposal writing (SBIR/STTR, RFPs), technical volume authorship, and live demos.
- Experience with multi-sensor fusion, signal-processing, tracking, synthetic data generation, domain adaptation, or semi/active learning for data-limited environments.
- Familiarity with edge hardware optimization, and performance profiling.
- Open-source contributions, publications, or patents in ML/CV.

Responsibilities

- 12-15 years in technology leadership, with 2 years specifically focused on AI/automation strategy, architecture, or platform enablement. Proven track record of delivering impactful AI solutions and managing high-performing engineering teams.
- Deep understanding of Generative AI (LLMs, RAG) and Agentic AI (multi-agent systems, autonomous workflows). Proficiency in AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
- Expertise in cloud-native AI platforms (Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or Google Vertex AI). Advanced SQL and strong Python skills (Pandas, PySpark) for data manipulation and pipeline development.
- Experience with API Development (RESTful, GraphQL) and modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue.js, or Angular). Proficiency in MLOps, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, Jira, and version control (Git). Experience managing the end-to-end lifecycle of multiple AI projects from planning to monitoring.
