What you’ll do

Location & Travel Expectations:

• This role is based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.

What is the role

We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team. This globally-distributed team of expert engineers focuses on delivering a robust and feature-rich search experience, including contributing to improving the search experience in Lucene. This is a principal software engineering role that focuses on enhancing the vector similarity search functionality within Elasticsearch, covering the design and implementation of new vector search features, enhancements to existing vector search functionality, and resolving bugs.

What You Bring Along

• You have implemented novel techniques in vector similarity on a search platform with a large user base or progressed the field of academic research in vector similarity information retrieval.
• Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases, and you used HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms and libraries on search platforms at scale.
• You have strong skills in core Java and are conversant in the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as other features like lambdas.
• You work with a high level of autonomy, and are able to take on projects and guide them from beginning to end. This covers both technical design and working with other engineers to develop needed components.
• You're comfortable developing collaboratively. Giving and receiving feedback on code and approaches and APIs is hard! Bonus points if you've collaborated over the internet because that's harder. Double bonus points for asynchronous collaboration over the internet. That's even harder, but we do it anyway because it's the best way we know how to build software.

We are seeking an OSS Test & Automation Engineer to join the team responsible for developing our core network platform – OSS. In this role, you will act as the primary owner of OSS workflow automation development and test engineering. Join a small, specialized team building ClickHouse's next frontier — secure, highly scalable database platforms for government and enterprise clients across cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments. Our team is looking for exceptional engineers to design, develop, deploy, and secure a ClickHouse Cloud database platform across a variety of regulated and mission-critical environments.

This is an exciting opportunity to architect solutions for high-performance, highly regulated systems, including environments with restricted or no internet connectivity. This role involves architecting secure, resilient, and scalable solutions tailored for sensitive workloads. You will work closely with Security, Dataplane, ClickHouse Core, and Infrastructure teams to ensure compliance with NIST, FedRAMP, Protected B, IRAP, and other security frameworks, while enabling our elastic, limitless scale, high-performance, server-less ClickHouse Cloud capabilities across cloud, hybrid, and on-prem deployments.

What will you do?

• Design and develop a highly available, scalable, and secure ClickHouse Cloud platform for regulated and mission-critical environments.
• Build innovative deployment automation across cloud, hybrid, and on-prem systems, including disconnected environments when needed.
• Work closely with existing Dataplane and Core teams to ensure software parity with existing cloud infrastructure.
• Solve unique scaling, reliability, and performance challenges in regulated environments.
• Design and deploy ClickHouse Cloud on Kubernetes and containerized environments ensuring high availability, replication, and backup.
• Develop and maintain Helm charts, operators, and Kubernetes manifests for database management.
• Implement repeatable automation to build, scale, and troubleshoot infrastructure components across diverse deployment models.
• Optimize ClickHouse Cloud database performance and storage architecture for on-prem, hybrid, and government cloud deployments.
• Integrate secure authentication, encryption, and access control mechanisms.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation for system architecture, security, and compliance audits.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database performance, security, and operational issues.
• Automate deployments and lifecycle management using Terraform, Ansible, or CI/CD pipelines.

About you:

• Permanent Resident and/or U.S. Citizenship required (per U.S. federal contract requirements).
• You have 6+ years of relevant software development industry experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
• Experience with ClickHouse or relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes tools (Helm, Kustomize, operators, Istio, service mesh).
• Experience with secure, regulated, or restricted network environments (including airgapped architectures) is a strong plus.
• Experience with containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift), ideally in regulated or enterprise environments.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-prem equivalents).
• Proficiency in programming/scripting languages (Go or Python) for automation and integration.
• You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams.

Your Role:

As a Senior Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) Engineer in the Cloud team, you’ll be working with some of the industry’s brightest minds to develop our data solution. The main areas of focus will include data ingestion, ML pipelines, log analytics, visualization, predictive analysis, tools etc. You will design, develop and enhance data applications from prototype to production - including integration and processing of large real-time vehicle data. 

Responsibilities: 

• Design, build, and operate FOTA microservices (campaigns, targeting, packaging, rollout/rollback) using Java/Spring Boot on Kubernetes. 
• Implement secure delivery paths and APIs (gRPC/protobuf and REST) over MQTT/HTTP2; support chunking, resume, bandwidth control, and CDN/S3 storage. 
• Model data across relational stores; integrate queues/streams (Kafka or MQTT) and cache layers (Redis). 
• Instrument services for observability (metrics, tracing, logs) with clear SLOs; drive reliability via canary/phased rollouts and feature flags. 
• Collaborate with firmware/vehicle, mobile, and portal teams; write design docs and lead code reviews and mentoring. 
• Automate with CI/CD (Jenkins/Maven/Gradle), comprehensive testing, and runbooks. 
• Develop multi-region services, tests, and documentation. 
• Evolve system design and architecture to keep up with product's growth and adoption 

Basic Qualifications: 

• MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field 
• 7+ years in backend or distributed systems; 3+ years building cloud microservices at scale. 
• Strong Java/Spring Boot; solid CS fundamentals in concurrency, networking, and fault tolerance. 
• Hands-on with containers and cloud (Docker, Kubernetes; AWS/GCP). 
• API design with gRPC/protobuf and REST; experience with message brokers. 
• Data expertise with SQL and NoSQL; familiarity with Cassandra data modeling. 
• Security foundations: TLS, codesigning/PKI. 
• Proven ownership of production services, on call, and incident response 
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in productionizing platforms and applications. 
• Experience with graph databases, timeseries, NoSQL etc. 
• Experience with predictive analysis or recommendation systems. 
• Experience in building CI/CD framework for the data teams 
• Experience with Experience in production support and troubleshooting 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Automotive experience: ISO 21434/26262, UDS/CAN, A/B. 
• File/package delivery at scale: multipart/resumable uploads, S3, CDN, delta updates. 
• Observability stack (Prometheus/Grafana/ELK) and APM. 
• Familiarity with Node.js services and Angular portals. 
• Infrastructure as code (Helm/Terraform) and cost/performance optimization. 
• Experience with Kafka Streams or Flink a plus.

Annual Salary Range:

($130,000 - $160,000 DOE), plus benefits and incentive plans
