About the Role

As a Staff Embedded Software Engineer, you will spearhead the development of brand-new camera categories while driving the continued growth and reliability of our ever-expanding global fleet. This role is a high-impact technical leadership position requiring seamless collaboration across the entire stack—including Hardware, Product, Backend, and Frontend teams—to bring first-generation systems to life. What You Bring

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional experience in systems software development for performance and resource-constrained environments.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager I to lead one of our autonomous feature squads. You'll own the day-to-day engineering leadership of a cross-functional team (1 PM, 1 Designer, 4–5 engineers) responsible for a meaningful area of the Shopmonkey platform. This is not a "project manager with an engineering title" role. You are technical, you are in the code, and you care deeply about how software gets built — not just that it ships. • Write high-quality, well-tested code and help refine engineering standards and best practices.
• Debug production issues, improve observability, and contribute to system reliability.
• Partner with other engineers to deliver features from concept to production, including technical design, implementation, testing, and rollout.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience building full-stack applications in production environments.
• Strong proficiency with TypeScript and experience working across both frontend and backend systems.
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React preferred) and backend application development.
• Ability to design clean, maintainable APIs and internal interfaces.
• Strong collaboration skills and comfort working closely with product and design.
• Ability to operate independently, manage ambiguity, and drive work to completion.
• Interest in building intelligent, agent-driven experiences, even without prior LLM experience.

Bonus Points

• Experience contributing to or building internal frameworks or developer tooling.
• Familiarity with agent frameworks, agentic patterns, or LLM tool-calling workflows.
• Strong intuition for UI/UX quality in interactive interfaces.
• Experience with observability, performance tuning, or production debugging at scale.
• Experience with event-driven or distributed systems.
• Prior experience working in remote-first engineering environments.

The US base salary range for this position at the start of employment is $133,500 - $212,000. Within this range, individual pay is determined by specific US work location, as well as additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and internal equity considerations.

The total compensation package includes variable pay (where applicable), equity, plus a range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and financial.
