Job Summary

We’re hiring a Senior / Staff Backend Engineer to lead the design and delivery of SaaS products powered by data, machine learning, and AI. This is a hands-on role focused on building scalable backend systems, integrating ML/AI capabilities into real customer workflows, and driving technical direction across product areas. Roles & Responsibilities

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead the API Platform and Ecosystem team at one of the fastest-growing companies in industrial technology. You’ll guide the Software Development group responsible for powering how customers, partners, integrators, and third-party developers interact with MaintainX.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and develop a team of 5–6 developers responsible for MaintainX’s API platform, integrations, and ecosystem services.
• Own the technical vision and roadmap for our public API, SDKs, BI connectors, ERP integrations, and third-party app ecosystem.
• Partner closely with Product, Design, and key business stakeholders to define platform capabilities, integration architecture, and developer experience.
• Drive software development excellence across reliability, performance, scalability, documentation quality, and API lifecycle management.
• Establish strong operational practices—including monitoring, observability, CI/CD pipelines, API governance, and incident response.
• Mentor, coach, and help developers grow through regular feedback, clear expectations, and career development support.
• Collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, and Solution Development teams to understand customer integration needs and translate them into platform capabilities.
• Provide clear visibility into team progress, risks, and impact to software development and company leadership.
• Partner with Recruiting and other Software Development Managers to hire and onboard top talent.

About You

• 4+ years of Software Development management experience, including leading teams building APIs, integrations, platforms, or ecosystem-oriented products.
• Strong technical foundation in distributed systems, API design (REST/GraphQL), data modeling, and integration architectures.
• Experience working with enterprise integrations, SaaS ecosystems, or developer-facing platforms (ERP, middleware, iPaaS, or BI tools is a strong plus).
• Comfortable working closely with external-facing teams and, occasionally, directly with customers or partners to understand integration use cases.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical design, roadmap planning, and cross-functional collaboration.

You'd be joining our Backend team within the Platform Engineering division. We're a group with an unusual mandate inside MaintainX: we treat our internal developer platform as a real product, with internal customers (150+ developers), adoption metrics, and a roadmap shaped by what product teams actually need. We are not an ops team.

The platform we're building today exists to answer one question: how do we keep MaintainX engineers shipping fast as the org grows from where we are now to 2-3x the size? Today, spinning up a new backend service, getting it to production, and operating it involves too many manual steps, too much tribal knowledge, and too many decisions each team makes in isolation. We want golden paths that make the right thing the easy thing.

What you’ll do: 

• Design, build, and maintain backend foundations and tooling powering our internal developer platform.
• Bring AI native and add on workflows into your daily work and into the platform.
• Raise engineering excellence standards.
• Lead to the consolidation and evolution of platform primitives: developer portal, local development, domain-service templates and scaffolders, graphQL, event-driven, openAPI golden paths and CI/CD workflows.
• Collaborate with other platform teams and product development teams on defining and adopting the internal developer platform.

We are seeking an experienced Staff Mobile Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate loves working with technology and has a proven track record of leading, building and delivering complex mobile applications. This role requires navigating ambiguity and shaping the long term direction of our mobile products.

You will work as part of our mobile team to redefine wealth management for both advisors and their clients. Our infrastructure is built with a Microservices approach and our tech stack includes React Native, with TypeScript, Node, Serverless, GraphQL, MongoDB, and AWS. 

As a key member of our Mobile team, you will be helping set the strategy for OneVests mobile applications by: (1) establishing and building patterns customer and client interactions, (2) designing and building customer and client mobile experiences, (3) building tooling, CI and releases processes that enable scalable and efficient delivery of enterprise applications to our customers.

• Building out the OneVest mobile application in React Native, using GraphQL APIs

• Concevoir, développer et exploiter les API REST publiques de MaintainX, en mettant l’accent sur la cohérence, la scalabilité et une excellente expérience développeur.
• Mettre en œuvre les standards et bonnes pratiques de la plateforme : authentification/autorisation, limitation de débit (rate limiting), gestion des versions, filtrage, pagination, idempotence, gestion des erreurs et rétrocompatibilité.
• Concevoir et implémenter des opérations API robustes en batch et en bulk permettant la synchronisation de volumes importants de données et des workflows de migration à grande échelle pour les clients entreprises.
• Découpler la couche API REST des dépendances monolithiques tout en mettant en place des tests de contrat solides afin de garantir que les évolutions GraphQL n’impactent pas la stabilité des API REST, améliorant ainsi la fiabilité globale et la rapidité d’itération.
• Développer des structures de base (scaffolding), des templates et des bibliothèques partagées afin d’accélérer et d’harmoniser le développement des connecteurs et intégrations.
• Améliorer les pipelines CI/CD, l’automatisation des releases et les contrôles qualité (quality gates) pour les intégrations et services de l’écosystème.
• Produire une documentation développeur claire et des implémentations de référence (par exemple des SDK).

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend systems, APIs, or platform products (seniority flexible based on impact and scope).

The base pay range for this position is $140,000-$180,000/year CAD, which can include additional bonus depending on the position ultimately offered, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
