Required skills: 

• Contribute to safety architecture and compliance for server systems, including HVDC power shelves, PDUs, and liquid-cooling subsystems

• Review schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical designs to identify potential electrical, thermal, and fire hazards

• Plan and execute safety validation testing, such as dielectric strength (HiPot), insulation resistance, fault condition testing, thermal evaluation, and fire enclosure assessment

As an Astera Labs Principal Field Applications Engineer, you will support the world’s leading cloud service providers, server and network OEMs by working with them to design solutions that use Astera Labs’ portfolio of connectivity products. We are hiring an Engineer Director, Devices Software Engineering to drive the strategy and implementation of our next-generation Ubuntu hardware enablement quality. This critical function is part of our mission to transform Linux certification, in partnership with the engineering directors of Ubuntu Enablement and Ubuntu Certification. Our goal is to deliver the world's best long term OS stability commitment on PC, server and IoT hardware.

We believe that Engineering Directors should be outstanding engineers themselves. They should be very comfortable reviewing a patch or a software design spec. They are trusted engineers who understand the importance of a whole-team effort in creating great products, and who enjoy seeing colleagues develop. They should contribute code themselves to set the standard for coding, but know that the code they write is far less significant than their ability to shape the whole team’s direction, focus and delivery. We grow management skills, and train engineers who are interested in soft skills to be managers. Even though this is a director level position, managing managers, we expect Engineering Directors to be outstanding system software engineers with the confidence to lead by example across the full range of activities in their teams. You’ll need to know how to drive testing and benchmarking to improve the clarity in your teams around quality and performance. You’ll also need to be confident to set and defend high expectations of work ethic, consistency, focus and learning.

In this Engineering Director role, you will lead the strategy and the team responsible for quality coordination and integration testing of our software stacks with hardware. We are looking for a quality expert with the ability to establish quality processes from the ground up. The candidate must understand today's PC and ARM IoT hardware, and be excited about the new generation of RISC-V hardware that is on the horizon. They should understand the board and device product lifecycle and know the tools and techniques used to introduce new products. They will work with teams across the company to drive quality improvements through the entire development cycle. This challenging role demands a high degree of technical skill combined with management experience.

Today, most Linux certification is poor quality. Vendors run one set of tests and then declare that 'the hardware is certified'. But Linux is not a static platform. We make many more security fixes in the Linux world than people traditionally made in the proprietary OS world - all of these need to be tested on hardware which has been certified, even if that certification is 'old'. Also, Linux and open source evolve significantly every six months, and even more between major enterprise releases like the Ubuntu LTS versions. During the lifespan of an LTS, new kernel improvements will be available to users, and they want to be sure that their hardware will work. Today's Linux certification programs do not meet the needs of its users, and we want to change that.

Our intention is to deliver continuous quality and certification across the entire portfolio of certified hardware. Once we have enabled and certified a device, we intend to keep testing it to ensure that every single change we deliver to Ubuntu users globally is verified on all the hardware we know about. We also intend to measure energy consumption on a continuous process, as part of our commitment to measure, manage and drive down the carbon footprint of Ubuntu usage around the planet. We are building the world's largest and best-equipped Linux device certification facility in Taipei, which will enable this continuous testing. We are also structuring our renewed partnership and customer agreements to facilitate this process going forward.

As an Engineering Director at Canonical your primary responsibility is to the teams you lead, to ensure that they measure outcomes, make process improvements, do valuable work, and find career satisfaction at Canonical. We are hiring an Engineering Manager for Ubuntu Hardware Certification Quality Engineering, to lead the team responsible for the test suites which validate hardware compatibility with Ubuntu Linux (Core, Desktop and Server – see https://ubuntu.com/certified for more information). We work together with silicon companies, OEMs, ODMs and teams within Canonical to ensure a smooth, secure out of the box Ubuntu experience, with success in this role leading to a great Ubuntu experience being offered on more and more devices.

As the Engineering Manager of the Certification Quality team you’ll lead a dedicated testing team, shaping the vision and setting the pace, in collaboration with the rest of the Certification and hardware enablement teams. You will lead the certification test strategy for Canonical’s PC OEM and ODM partnerships, including Advantech, ASUS, Dell, HP,  and Lenovo, deepening the test coverage for both new and existing certified hardware. You will pioneer the use of Canonical’s open source test frameworks and custom designed hardware to drive automated hardware validation of the operating system. This is a challenging position for a quality focused engineering leader, and requires an analytical mind with a passion for test automation and team leadership.

Location: This role will be office based in Taipei Minsheng district, Taiwan.

We are looking for a passionate Linux kernel engineer to join our team and help us bring Ubuntu to the next generation of hardware. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality kernel support for a wide range of hardware devices. You will also work with upstream developers and driver vendors to integrate the latest hardware support into Ubuntu.

This role presents an exciting opportunity for an engineer to leverage their software engineering skills on cutting-edge hardware. We collaborate with world-leading OEM partners to deliver Ubuntu on their next generation of laptops, desktops, and workstations. You will tackle complex issues spanning a wide range of consumer components, from Wi-Fi and Thunderbolt docks to BIOS and UEFI. Additionally, you will face challenges in achieving optimal power efficiency and performance.

You will have the chance to explore the latest architecture and platform technologies from Intel, AMD and other silicon vendors, enabling them in Ubuntu and ultimately delivering them to the world. As part of this position, you will be expected to closely collaborate with upstream kernel maintainers and hardware vendors in analysing root causes, developing fixes, and submitting patches for review.
     

Location: This is a role based in either our Taipei, Taiwan or Beijing, China offices.                 

What your day will look like

• Collaborate regularly and proactively with a globally distributed team

As an Python Engineer - Data Center Hardware Integration in Canonical, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of our lab in Taipei which serves as a centre point for Ubuntu server certification of US based silicon and server designs. This includes software defined hardware management, working with, and developing data centre automation tooling (MAAS), interacting with vendors, asset tracking and handling deliveries.  

What your day will look like

• Own a fully automated server lab with the latest server and network silicon from leading vendors.
• Use your Python development skills to develop the Metal as a Service (MAAS) software to work with a large variety of server and network hardware.
• Actively expand MAAS functionality by creating integrations with testing and scheduling software such as Testflinger.
• Manage the physical setup of the lab, ensure it is well structured and tidy, and execute changes either self or through remote hands.
• Work to standardise processes, configurations, and procedures in cooperation with engineers in our other data centres.
• Improve and extend hardware and network monitoring through automation.
• Regularly update asset management tools to ensure accuracy and completeness of the lab’s hardware.
• Update of equipment firmware when appropriate/needed.

We are hiring a MAAS Systems Engineer to focus on building tooling to increase data center operational efficiency. As a MAAS Systems Engineer in Canonical, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of our lab in the Toronto area, which we use for Ubuntu server certification of US based silicon and server designs. You'll write and use software that deploys and configures servers and network switches, and solve difficult design problems related to doing this well and fast at scale. You will work with a mixture of hardware: cutting edge new silicon that Kernel Team and Partner Engineering teams work on to make them run Linux extremely well, as well as established hardware to make sure new versions of Ubuntu are smooth and fast. This role is a combination of software engineering focusing on reliable automated hardware commissioning and deployment, as well as testing, troubleshooting and experimentation focusing on improving reliability and performance of our software. You don't need to be an expert in all of these areas, but you need to be a good software engineer who is curious about complex distributed systems to succeed in this role. If you love hacking in your home lab, have good Python skills, and are curious about data centre hardware, you will love this opportunity.

Role Overview

We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our technology team. As a Software Engineer at MediaAlpha, you will take part in all aspects of the software development lifecycle. This includes working with stakeholders in fixing and improving our MediaAlpha Exchange Product and testing new features and integrations. The ideal candidate will enjoy designing, implementing, and scaling systems that process tens of thousands of high-value transactions a day, while also producing elegant and readable code.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with product managers to define product features and plan deliverables and milestones.
• Understand the company's mission, be able to independently communicate and coordinate effectively across departments, and work with the team to complete projects.
• Participate in the overall software development process, write readable and reliable code, and assist in server maintenance.
• Integrate business partners' products and data into the MediaAlpha system, enabling our partners to analyze their data and improve various metrics through the MediaAlpha platform.
• Write technical documentation and user manuals to help users and colleagues understand and use the system.
• Use script languages (e.g., Perl) to develop software on Linux systems and assist with AWS maintenance tasks (EC2, S3, or CloudFront, etc.).

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical discipline (e.g., computer science)
• 3+ years of experience in software development.
• Familiar with relational databases such as MySQL and proficient in writing high-performance SQL queries.
• Familiar with designing, implementing, and integrating Restful APIs.
• Experienced in development within a Linux operating environment.
