Artefact is a next-generation strategy and data consulting firm dedicated to transforming organizations through data and AI. We combine the rigor of top-tier strategy consulting with deep expertise in data, digital, and analytics to help clients achieve tangible business impact.
With 1,800+ consultants, data scientists, and engineers across 23 countries, we work with global leaders such as Samsung, L’Oréal, Orange, and Sanofi. Our Romandie office (Geneva/Lausanne) is at the heart of Artefact’s growth, advising clients on their most pressing strategic challenges — from AI strategy and governance to digital transformation roadmaps and new business model design.
As a Senior AI & Data Engineer, you will be the architect of the "AI Factory." Your role is less about training models from scratch and more about building the industrial-grade pipelines, infrastructure, and security frameworks required to run AI in a highly regulated environment.
Production-Grade AI Infrastructure: Design and implement robust MLOps and LLMOps pipelines specifically for banking environments, focusing on data residency, air-gapping possibilities, and high availability.
Data Engineering for AI: Build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to feed RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems, ensuring data lineage, quality, and strict access control (RBAC).
DevOps & Automation: Own the CI/CD lifecycle for AI assets. Automate the deployment of model APIs, vector databases, and monitoring stacks using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Hybrid Cloud & On-Prem: Navigate complex hybrid-cloud architectures (Azure/AWS/GCP vs. Private Cloud) common in Swiss banking.
Technical Advisory: Act as a bridge between IT Infrastructure, Risk/Compliance, and Business units to translate AI potential into stable, governed reality.
Engineer first, consultant second — with a builder’s mindset and a track record of shipping.
The "DevOps" Stack: Expert knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins). Experience with Terraform or Pulumi is a strong plus.
The "Data" Stack: Advanced SQL and Python. Deep experience with data orchestration (Airflow, Dagster), streaming (Kafka), and modern data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks).
AI/LLM Implementation: Hands-on experience with the "plumbing" of AI: Vector databases (Milvus, Qdrant, or pgvector), model serving (BentoML, vLLM), and RAG orchestration (LangChain/LlamaIndex).
Banking Domain: Solid understanding of financial data structures and the regulatory landscape (Model Risk Management, Audit trails, Data anonymization).
Languages: English is mandatory. German (B2 or higher) is a significant advantage for the Zurich market and stakeholder management.
Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
Nice to have
Experience with responsible AI/governance frameworks, security reviews, and cost optimization.
Domain experience in finance.
Contributions to open-source, publications, or conference talks.
Strategy with a Data Edge: Operate at the intersection of boardroom strategy and cutting-edge AI engineering.
Zurich Office Impact: High visibility from day one; help shape our Swiss footprint and work directly with senior leadership.
Learning & Growth: Advanced training across strategy, AI/ML/LLM, and cloud; international missions and communities of practice.
Culture of Doers: Innovation, action, collaboration. We move fast, deliver impact, and support each other’s growth.
Location: Zurich
If you don’t meet 100% of the criteria, we still want to hear from you. Passion, curiosity, and impact orientation matter — tell us about yours.

We are seeking an innovative and forward-thinking Engineering Manager passionate about building a world-class platform through a world-class team. Driving the technical direction of the technology, the evolution of the team, and the engineering excellence to make great things happen.
About the Netting Team
The team builds and maintains our multilateral netting platform — a critical solution that enables enterprise customers to consolidate thousands of intercompany payment obligations into a streamlined set of net settlements. Instead of every entity paying every other entity individually across borders, currencies, and banking relationships, our platform calculates optimal net positions and dramatically reduces the volume of cross-border payments that actually need to move. The result: reduced transaction and banking fees, and far less operational overhead.
It's a domain where precision matters — if you enjoy building systems where correctness, performance, and usability intersect with real financial impact, this is a team where your work is felt directly on the bottom line.

Proton was founded in 2014 by scientists from CERN on a simple truth: privacy is a fundamental human right. Since then, we've built the world's largest encrypted email service (Proton Mail) and expanded into Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar — tools used by millions globally to protect their freedom, fight censorship, and keep their data safe. In some situations, Proton has literally helped save lives.
We are profitable, independent (no VC control), and selectively hire from the top ~1% of applicants. Our 700+ team members across 50+ countries come from leading organizations and elite academic backgrounds. We move fast, keep hierarchy light, and prioritize impact over optics. If you want to do meaningful work with exceptionally high-caliber people, this is it. Check our open-source projects here.
The Role
As VP Design, you will own and lead the design function across both Product Design (user experience, interface, service design) and Brand / Marketing Design (visual identity, campaign creative, brand experience). You’ll partner closely with the CEO, VP Marketing and Heads of Product, helping shape strategy, drive design excellence, and ensure that design becomes a core differentiator for Proton. You will build, mentor and scale a high-performing, multi-disciplinary design organisation, embedding design thinking across the company.
What you will do
• Define and execute the strategic vision for design at Proton, bridging product and brand to deliver a unified and differentiated experience globally.
• Lead, develop and grow a world-class design organisation: recruiting designers and researchers structuring teams across product and brand, setting performance metrics, fostering a culture of creativity, craft and user-centricity.
• Partner with the CEO, VP Marketing and Heads of Product to ensure design is embedded into strategic roadmaps, product launches, marketing campaigns and brand initiatives.
• Oversee the end-to-end design process for all major product lines and brand campaigns: user research, UX/UI, service design, prototyping, testing, visual design, motion, interactive experiences.
• Ensure that the Proton brand identity is strong, consistent, scalable and flexible across all touchpoints: digital, mobile, web, marketing, physical, events.
• Drive design systems, tools and processes across product & brand to deliver efficiency, quality, consistency and scale.
• Advocate for users and privacy-first design principles in everything we build and brand.
• Monitor and measure design impact: user experience metrics, brand perception, conversion, retention, campaign effectiveness; iterate and optimise accordingly.
• Represent design externally: speak on design at conferences, build Proton’s design reputation, collaborate with creative agencies and partners worldwide.
What We’re Looking For
• A minimum of 15 + years of experience in design leadership roles (product, brand and/or marketing) at a global technology company or agency.
• Proven track record of building, scaling and operating design organisations with cross-functional reach.
• Strong experience overseeing both product (UX/UI, service design) and brand/marketing design (visual identity, campaign creative) — not one or the other only.
• Demonstrated ability to define and execute design strategy that drives business impact (growth, engagement, retention, brand equity).
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work at executive level and influence across product, marketing, engineering and operations.
• Deep user-centred design mindset; strong portfolio showing end-to-end work (research → strategy → UX → UI → brand visuals).
• Skilled in designing for global audiences, with sensitivity to cultural differences and brand consistency across markets.
• Expertise in building and scaling design systems, establishing best practices and operational processes in fast-growing environments.
• Excellent leadership and people development skills: mentoring senior designers, creating high-performing teams, promoting a culture of craftsmanship and innovation.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic, high-growth company with a mission-driven ethos and a global, diverse team.
• Strong communicator with polished presentation and storytelling skills; fluent in English (other languages a plus).
At Proton, we believe diversity drives innovation and strengthens our mission to provide privacy as a default for all. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, or socio-economic background — feel valued and empowered.
If you need any extra support or reasonable adjustments during the hiring process, please let your talent partner know.
