Our platform and our team

Our platform uses a mix of Open Source and commercial off-the-shelf software and targets a large on-premise bare-metal footprint using cloud-native constructs. The environment offers a secure-by-default configuration, implementing a GitOps-first approach, in-depth network micro-segmentation and governance policies. We follow a mostly Kanban workflow and adhere to devops and GitOps principles. We value fast iteration and a customer-oriented approach while being mindful about security. The team has strong expertise in Kubernetes, networking and operating an internal cloud but also has experience with application development. The team is geographically diverse, with presence in both Switzerland and the US.

Job responsibilities:

• Develop the internal Kubernetes platform
• Integrate platform components and operators; implement the deployment and monitoring for these following infrastructure as code (IaC), configuration as code (CaC) and GitOps principles
• Develop and maintain an internal Kubernetes operator
• Develop CI validation and verification of the code base
• Adopt a security mindset as part of development and validation processes
• Document the platform for use-of-use by application teams and the platform operations team
• Coordinate with other technical staff to implement systems and software, prioritizing depending on business needs
• Support operations functions, including root cause identification, remediation and documentation
• Regularly re-assess the platform's internal ecosystem with the industry's leading solutions 
• Participate in a 24x7 on call rotation for tier 3 support

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

An ideal candidate will have a blend of technical skills, an intention to grow themselves and those around them, and will have a combination of:

• Experience with Kubernetes (and related ecosystem) configuration and administration
• Experience developing mature solutions for monitoring and reporting using tools like Prometheus, Grafana and Splunk
• Writing code with a high-level programming language such as Python or Go (aka Golang)

• Understanding of security and network stack

We’re looking for a Director of Platform & Infrastructure to own and evolve our core engineering foundations. Reporting to our VP of Product Engineering, this role will lead SRE, MLOps, and Platform teams with a mandate to create leverage across the entire organization.

As a scaling startup, we’re evolving from early-stage infrastructure to a more mature, reliable platform that can support rapid product development and growing customer demand. • 1–3+ years of SDR/BDR experience in Cloud, preferably with a background in selling to technical decision makers such as CTO, VP Engineering or Head of DevOps.
• Proven experience selling SaaS B2B  or cloud products or services.
• Proven history of achieving and reaching for results in an outbound lead generation environment.
• Experience managing multiple priorities and juggling various tools or campaigns in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Goal-oriented and self-motivated mindset with the "grit" to work through challenges and multiply sales speed.

THE WORK

We are seeking a new Staff Software Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team of our Custody department. You'll play a key role in shaping our engineering practices, ensuring the reliability and performance of our platform across a multi-cloud environment, and empowering our engineering team to deliver innovative features with speed and efficiency. You will drive improvements in our automation, observability, and overall platform stability.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and resilient infrastructure across Cloud providers such as Azure, AWS, GCP and IBM Cloud.
• Automating work including infrastructure needs, testing, failover solutions, failure mitigation, and much more.
• Implement and manage monitoring, alerting, and logging systems to ensure system visibility.
• Develop and maintain our CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI.
• Proactively identify and resolve potential performance bottlenecks and reliability issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations to address production incidents and provide support for service engineers with customer incidents.
• Collaborate closely with development teams to integrate and deploy services efficiently.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of our internal platform tools and services.
• Lead the implementation of standard methodologies for DevOps and SRE within the engineering organization.
• Document processes and procedures.
• Automate any software maintenance processes which previously required a manual procedure.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• 10+ years’ experience with software engineering, platforming engineering or system operations on high available and high traffic environments
• Strong experience with Linux-based infrastructures, Linux/Unix administration
• Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL
• Experience administering Linux servers as well as docker based infrastructure (like Kubernetes, AKS, etc.) in a highly available environment
• Experience of scripting languages such as Go or Bash
• Experience with message broker/queue technologies like RabbitMQ, AMQP 1.0
• Experience with modern monitoring, logging and observability tools in complex distributed systems such as with Application Insights, Grafana, Elastic stack, Datadog, Prometheus, etc
• Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code (with tools like Terraform)
• Familiarity with GitOps deployment practices using ArgoCD or Flux
• Good understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals and best practices

Key Responsibilities

1. Infrastructure Management: Provision, maintain, and upgrade AWS and EKS infrastructure using tools like kubectl, Kustomize, and Helm.
2. Automation & IaC: Develop and document reusable Terraform and Terragrunt modules to automate deployments, backups, and routine maintenance.
3. CI/CD & GitOps: Build and refine CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and GitOps workflows, specifically leveraging ArgoCD (including app-of-apps and ApplicationSets).
4. Monitoring & Reliability: Monitor performance and logs via DataDog and AWS CloudWatch, troubleshoot incidents, and take full ownership of the long-term reliability of the systems you build.
5. Data Platform Support: Support data engineers by operating and improving data platforms or data-adjacent infrastructure (e.g., Airflow/MWAA, SQLMesh) in production environments.
6. Streaming Systems: Support and maintain streaming or real-time data systems to ensure consistent data flow and system uptime.
7. Cost Optimization: Analyze cloud spend using AWS Cost Explorer and Infracost to identify waste and implement cost-saving measures.
8. Operational Support: Assist developers with daily operational needs and maintain security/RBAC and resource efficiency within Kubernetes environments.

As a DevOps Engineer, you are responsible for maintaining and optimizing our AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure to ensure high reliability, security, and scalability. You will focus on driving cost efficiency, accelerating deployment cycles for developers, and piloting emerging tools that deliver measurable value to the organization.

Technical Requirements

1. Kubernetes: Production-level experience with EKS, including Helm and Kustomize.
2. Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency in Terraform and Terragrunt.
3. Cloud & Data Systems: Hands-on experience with the AWS Ecosystem (EC2, ECR, RDS, MSK) and experience operating production data platforms or streaming systems.
4. GitOps: Proven experience with ArgoCD and GitHub Actions automation.
5. Tools: Familiarity with DataDog, MongoDB, and AI-assisted tools like Claude CLI or GitHub Copilot.
