Position Overview 

The Clinical Lab Technologist position will be responsible for processing medically relevant biological samples through extraction and/or high throughput next-generation DNA sequencing assays. This role will work within a team of Laboratorians in a fast-paced, high production setting to process research and clinical diagnostic samples to provide test results to patients, oncologists and other medical practitioners and researchers. As such, high attention to detail and clinical mindedness are crucial to success in this role. Adaptive’s clinical laboratories are CLIA/CAP/NYS/FDA certified, and as such this position needs to adhere to and uphold all applicable regulatory requirements. 

Working schedule: Tuesday - Friday 2:30pm - 11:00pm, Saturday 10:00am - 6:30pm

Scope/Impact 

Level I 

• Performs and provides general support for DNA extractions, PCR amplification, or high-throughput sequencing assays on DNA libraries in accordance with standard laboratory processes and procedures. 
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment such as liquid handling robotics and DNA sequencers. 
• Completes tasks as assigned (e.g. routine clinical or research sample processing, validations, reagent QC runs, or special projects) accurately while following strict methodologies. 
• Provides guidance to less-experienced staff. 

Level II 

All of the above with some guidance, as well as: 

• Performs training and/or competency assessments for Clinical Laboratory Technician/Technologist team members on high complexity molecular methods.

All of the above with independence, as well as: 

• Suggests changes to existing laboratory procedures and processes to improve efficiency and results.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other) 

Required  

• Molecular biology skills (e.g. DNA Extraction, Purification, PCR, qPCR, next-generation DNA sequencing) and related technical knowledge. 
• Experience working with human specimens (e.g. blood, tissues and/or cells) and biohazardous material.  
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines. 

As well as: 

Level I Must meet ONE of the following: 

• Bachelor’s or higher in medical technology or laboratory science from an accredited institution, OR: 
• Bachelor’s or higher in one of the chemical or biological sciences from an accredited institution + 6 months of high-complexity molecular experience and/or training in a clinical laboratory (holding a CLIA Certificate of Compliance/Accreditation) 

Level II 

Must meet ALL of the following: 

• Bachelor’s or higher in medical technology or laboratory science, chemical science, or biological science from an accredited institution. 
• Minimum of 1 year of experience and/or training in a clinical laboratory (holding a CLIA Certificate of Compliance/Accreditation) meeting the definition of “high-complexity”. 
• Minimum of 3 years of pertinent molecular laboratory experience. 
• Minimum of 2 years with a Master’s or higher. 

Level III 

Must meet ALL of the following: 

• Bachelor’s or higher in medical technology or laboratory science, chemical science, or biological science from an accredited institution. 
• Minimum of 3 years of experience and/or training in a clinical laboratory (holding a CLIA Certificate of Compliance/Accreditation) meeting the definition of “high-complexity”. 
• Minimum of 2 years with a Master’s or higher. 
• Minimum of 5 years of pertinent molecular laboratory experience. 
• Minimum of 3 years with a Master’s or higher. 
• Competent in laboratory automation and demonstrated laboratory best practices. 

Preferred 

• ASCP(MB) certification  
• Specialized knowledge and skills: Experience in a clinical, high-throughput environment is preferred.  
• Working knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, and supplies.  
• Competent in laboratory automation and demonstrated laboratory best practices.  
• Experience working within an electronic Laboratory Information Management System

Working Conditions 

• Job involves working in a laboratory handling human biological specimens.
• Employees work on assigned shifts which may include late evenings & weekends.
• Occasional flexibility and willingness to work more than assigned hours is expected. 
• Individuals are required to sit or stand for much of the workday and perform data entry into computer systems.  

Compensation 

• Level I: $27.16 – $40.72 per hour 
• Level II: $34.33 – $51.54 per hour 
• Level III: $38.56 – $57.88 per hour

Join Lumen as a Lab Technician on our Strain Engineering team. In this role, you will help advance Lumen’s early and mid-stage spirulina pipeline. Your work will center on maintaining and assessing cyanobacterial cultures and on keeping our strain engineering workflows running smoothly.

You will assist across recombinant DNA construction, genome editing, protein expression screening, and analytical characterization. You will maintain and generate cryogenic stocks of spirulina cell lines, perform media prep and aseptic techniques, monitor growth and quality metrics, and document results in Lumen’s ELN. You will follow and help refine SOPs, operate and care for lab instruments, track samples and reagents, and ensure data are complete, reproducible, and audit ready.

You will contribute as a dependable teammate in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. That includes learning and integrating new technologies, sharing capabilities with partner teams, coordinating to meet milestones and deadlines, and raising quality or troubleshooting issues as they arise. You will communicate status clearly in meetings at the team level and across the company. Success in this role requires strong organization, meticulous record keeping, flexibility, and the independence to learn new techniques while delivering reliable results.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Strain Engineering and Characterization
  • Grow, maintain, characterize and cryopreserve cyanobacterial cultures; perform sterile handling, media preparation, and passaging.
  • Genotype spirulina strains and maintain accurate records of strain identity.
  • Conduct protein expression experiments and analyze results by SDS-PAGE and Western/Jess; perform ELISA-based titer/functional assays.
  • 20-40% of lab time: assist in cloning tasks such as Golden Gate assembly, plasmid miniprepping, clonal screening, sequencing and cryobanking.
• Laboratory Techniques and Data Management:
  • Follow established SOPs; optimize or develop new protocols to meet experimental goals with appropriate controls and statistical rigor.
  • Prepare reagents, buffers, and media; manage consumables for assigned workflows.
  • Perform sequencing sample preparation; analyze sequence data to confirm constructs/edits.
  • Maintain accurate, well-organized laboratory notebooks and sample/strain inventories; document work in Benchling (or equivalent ELN/LIMS) with timely written reports and data packages.
  • Summarize and present findings to supervisors and cross-functional stakeholders; contribute to SOP authoring, protocol updates, and continuous improvements in quality and efficiency.
• Laboratory Operations and Collaboration:
  • Dedicate ~10% of time to supporting general lab operations (maintenance, clean-up, equipment upkeep, inventory, and safety compliance).
  • Work independently while collaborating effectively with Physiology, Protein Expression, Process Development, and Manufacturing teams to meet project milestones.
  • Proactively learn and master new techniques, instruments (e.g., liquid handlers/automation, photobioreactors), and software to enhance laboratory capabilities.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Education and Experience:
  • BA/BS degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of applied molecular biology experience. Research experience outside of the classroom strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques including cloning, DNA isolation, PCR, SDS-PAGE, and vector construction is required.

THE POSITION

As a GENOMICS LAB TECHNICIAN you will work as part of the Genomic Lab team to fix, barcode, and/or sequence biological samples. In this role, you will use a wide range of laboratory techniques to perform our proprietary split-pool combinatorial barcoding protocol, ultimately helping advance our customers’ research. You will also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, Automation, Manufacturing, and other internal partners to ensure seamless process execution and continuous improvement. 

IN THIS POSITION, YOU WILL

• Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment
• Receive, inspect, and log lab specimens, handling all personally identifiable information with extreme care
• Perform cell and/or nuclei fixation following standard operating procedures
• Use techniques such as cell counting and electrophoresis to analyze in-process samples
• Prepare libraries using Parse’s split-pool combinatorial barcoding process
• Operate and support automated laboratory systems used for Next Generation Sequencing
• Maintain accurate batch records and perform required administrative tasks following Good Documentation Practices (GDP), including routine use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for sample tracking and documentation
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) as well as any other applicable standards that may apply to the role

FOR THIS POSITION, WE LOOK FOR

• B.S./B.A. in a relevant field with 3+ years of hands-on wet lab experience in industry or a technician role, or Associate’s degree with 5+ years of relevant hands-on wet lab experience in a professional setting 
• Demonstrated ability to perform common molecular biology or chemistry lab techniques
• Experience using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) such as Illumina or Ultima platforms required. Experience using Lab Automation such as Hamilton platforms preferred 
• Meticulous adherence to policies, procedures, and established protocols
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to stay organized and effectively prioritize work
• Sound judgment and critical thinking skills, including the ability to make in-scope decisions and escalate appropriately during time-sensitive tasks
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, dynamic lab environment where priorities shift and focus can change quickly 
• Adaptability and resilience when plans evolve or new direction is introduced

JOB CONDITIONS

• PPE consistent with BSL-1 and/or BSL-2 laboratory standards is required
• Standing for extended periods and occasionally lifting and/or carrying up to 30 pounds
• Core business hours are required; however, this role may require overtime and adjusted start/end times based on lab and business needs. Scheduling flexibility is expected. No overnight shifts
• Handling of biological specimens that may carry risk of bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials
• Repetitive motions using pipettes and other laboratory equipment
