We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Engineer, Technical Lead to lead our large-scale AI model and software evaluation framework – Ground Truth Regression. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, machine learning principals and leadership, with experience in developing and deploying advanced data analysis and large scale orchestration frameworks.

At Motional, large scale orchestration for data analysis plays a critical role in delivering our ML-centered autonomous driving vehicle. Our robo-taxi ML Models and software are developed by hundreds of developers and deployed multiple times a day – The Ground Truth Regression team provides the large scale perception analysis framework for validating all changes to perception which can impact the autonomous vehicle behavior. 

The GTRegression team validates the end impact of ML and software changes to the autonomous vehicle while those changes are in development, providing the tools for Root Cause Analysis, and safety consideration. We monitor for model errors, anomalies, rare objects & long-tail driving scenarios across thousands of driving hours. The team develops the full stack – AWS Kubernetes orchestration framework, ReSimulation, model metrics, regression reports, and deep dive analysis UI’s. The team works together with all other perception and ML teams to develop the metrics and analyze results.

Director, Software Engineering

Department: Product Development

Reports to: SVP, Software Engineering

The Director, Software Engineering is responsible for the delivery of Enterprise SaaS products supporting the Clinical Trial industry, overseeing multiple on-shore and off-shore development teams and the delivery of multiple products and initiatives. The Director, Software Engineering provides strategic planning and tactical execution management, agile release planning across multiple teams, process and tool design, resource management, and continuous improvement. The role demands a blend of technical and business acumen, strategic and tactical focus, and an ability to balance architectural best practice and innovation pragmatism. In a typical business day, the Director, Engineering may find themselves pair-programming with developers on a priority feature or defect and briefing the C-suite on roadmap direction and key technical decisions.  

Responsibilities:

• Works with the SVP of Engineering to build a technical vision for the product line.
• Explores new technologies for future planning and potential implementation and evaluates and identifies appropriate technology to deliver business objectives.  
• Ensures engineering best practices are defined and met across teams and develops and governs technical standards to ensure adherence. 
• Collaborates with architects and principal engineers in the technical design of initiatives and business priorities. 
• Experience leading distributed or cross-functional teams globally, including recruiting, mentoring, and retaining team members in a continuous improvement environment. Provides leadership and professional growth with the goal to build our next generation of engineering leaders. 
• Extensive knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns, microservices, and distributed systems design 
• Experience with enterprise SaaS architecture and development in a product-driven environment, including multi-tenancy, scalability, and platform reliability at scale 
• Fluency in data architecture concepts including data models, data warehouses, analytical platforms, and modern data mesh or lakehouse patterns 
• Familiarity with service portfolio management, API governance, and technical debt prioritization at the enterprise level 
• Works closely with Product Management and Architecture to discover business requirements and technical approach for product initiatives and features. 
• Supports teams in the discovery and design of product backlog items and identifies and manages cross organization dependencies. 
• Develop Proof of Concept solutions to demonstrate technical design and can dive into the code and pair program with engineers as necessary.  
• Initiates and drives continuous improvement initiatives, challenges self and teams to continuously grow and achieve new levels of success. 
• Will be held accountable for the design, development, and delivery of Suvoda product and solutions.

Requirements:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience and/or training. 
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in the software industry, including at least 5 years in a leadership position. 
• Proven experience delivering cloud-native applications on AWS, including IaC tooling (Terraform), container orchestration (EKS), and cloud cost optimization
• Good working knowledge of Python, Django ORM, Django REST Framework, and Angular for building and maintaining scalable backend and frontend services; hands-on familiarity with event-driven cloud service architectures leveraging AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, ElastiCache (Redis), and Postgres RDS 
• Strong experience managing people and teams; setting goals, providing clear technical direction, and holding teams accountable for delivering business value. 
• Strong experience with software development best practices and tooling, agile testing, developer operations, continuous integration and delivery, and site reliability engineering. 
• Relevant technical knowledge of enterprise architecture, cloud services, cloud development, containerization, business domain modelling, data warehouses and analytical platforms. 
• Proven experience in Agile Software Development methodology. 

Nice to Have:

• Hands-on experience adopting and governing AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) across engineering teams, including establishing standards for responsible use, prompt engineering best practices, and measuring productivity impact
• Familiarity with Anthropic's Claude API or Claude Code for agentic developer workflows, including task automation, code generation pipelines, and AI-assisted code review
• Experience integrating LLM-powered tooling into the SDLC — such as AI-assisted test generation, documentation automation, or intelligent PR summarization
• Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change around AI adoption — including upskilling teams, establishing guardrails, and balancing developer autonomy with governance
• Familiarity with prompt engineering principles and the ability to coach engineers on effective human-AI collaboration patterns 

About the Role:

Rumble Cloud is seeking a Principal Database Architect to own the architecture, technical direction, and successful delivery of our Database as a Service (DBaaS) offering within our public cloud platform. This role will take over a product already in active development and guide it through hardening, integration, launch, and global scale-out. You will be responsible for shaping the long-term technical roadmap of the service, ensuring it is secure, reliable, performant, and operable at scale for customers worldwide. You will work closely with our development team, engineering team, and early adopter customers to refine the design, drive high-quality implementation, and build the patterns and practices that future engineers will follow.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the end-to-end architecture of the DBaaS product, including multitenancy, high availability, disaster recovery, backup/restore, observability, and security.
• Review and influence existing epics, stories, and technical designs, identifying gaps and driving improvements.
• Define and maintain architectural standards and patterns for databases across our public cloud (provisioning, configuration, lifecycle management, monitoring, security).
• Work closely with platform, networking, and security teams to integrate DBaaS into our cloud infrastructure, including identity, networking, billing, self-service, and automation.
• Collaborate with Product Management to align technical roadmap with product vision, SLAs/SLOs, and customer requirements.
• Serve as the highest-level technical escalation point for DBaaS-related issues in development, staging, and production environments.
• Support onboarding and success of early “friendly” customers: assist with deployments, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and architecture guidance.
• Define and evolve operational runbooks, incident response patterns, and SRE practices for the DBaaS platform.
• Mentor and coach other engineers and architects as we build an internal team around the service, raising the overall bar for database and data platform expertise.
• Establish and enforce security, compliance, and data protection best practices for the DBaaS offering (encryption, access control, auditing, regulatory considerations).
• Participate in capacity planning and cost optimization, ensuring the service is economically viable at scale.
• Conduct periodic architecture reviews and post-incident reviews, driving continuous improvement in reliability and customer experience.
• Support and advise internal teams on the operation, performance, and troubleshooting of existing database clusters, in addition to primary ownership of the DBaaS platform.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Expert-level experience in database engineering, data platforms, or infrastructure, with significant ownership of production database systems or services.
• Deep expertise with at least one major relational database engine (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or similar), including replication, backup/restore, performance tuning, and operational best practices.
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts, including compute, networking, storage, and security in public cloud or large private cloud environments.
• Experience integrating databases or DBaaS-like offerings with cloud control planes, APIs, and automation/orchestration systems.
• Strong background in reliability engineering for data services (monitoring, alerting, SLOs, incident management, capacity planning).
• Familiarity with security and compliance requirements for database services (encryption at rest/in transit, access control, auditing, data retention, regulatory considerations).
• Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, or similar) and comfort working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Scripting or programming skills (e.g., Python, Go, Bash or similar) for automation, tooling, and integration.
• Proven track record of technical leadership: influencing designs across teams, mentoring engineers, and making clear trade-off decisions.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with external vendors, internal stakeholders, and customers.

Nice to Have (Preferred Skills):

• Strong, hands-on expertise with both MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.
• Experience designing or operating multi-tenant, high-availability, and distributed database architectures in a cloud or large-scale environment.
• Experience designing or operating a DBaaS offering (e.g., Amazon RDS/Aurora, Azure Database, Cloud SQL, or similar managed services).
• Knowledge of NoSQL or specialized data stores (e.g., Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra) and when to apply them.
• Experience in Kubernetes-based data workloads, operators, or stateful services.
• Familiarity with multi-region architectures, data residency, and geo-replication patterns.
• Exposure to observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, OpenTelemetry) for data services.
• Relevant certifications in databases, cloud architecture, or security are a plus.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated success owning the architecture and technical direction of a mission-critical platform or service.
• Strong customer empathy and a track record of working directly with users or customers to solve complex technical problems.
• Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels, from roadmap and design reviews down to debugging complex production issues.

Annual Compensation Range: 

$185,000 -  $265,000 USD base + benefits + equity (If based in the United States)

$170,000 -  $200,000 USD base + benefits + equity (If based in Canada)
