Site reliability engineering is at the core of our vision for how this modern-day distributed ecosystem should and can be managed.

A day in the life of a Senior Cloud Engineer (Azure)

As a Senior Cloud Engineer (Azure), you are part of a multidisciplinary project team working with software engineers, QA engineers, and frontend engineers on experience and commerce platforms. You will work with Infrastructure as Code (mostly Terraform), support teams in setting up their pipelines, helping them to deploy and scale their applications, design and ensure security on the cloud infrastructure of our client, set up recovery procedures, etc. You’ll work with containerized environments hosted either in Azure PaaS (Container Services, App Service, Azure functions) or on Kubernetes (AKS), although at times you will also work in an IaaS context with VMs.

On top of that, you help teams to grow and incorporate cloud techniques – these teams may contain cloud engineers, but could also consist of DevOps-minded software engineers. You participate in the European cloud team and actively contribute to growing the cloud engineers in that team. You help with advice, estimates, risk analysis, and proactively alert project management around cloud work streams. You’re supporting cloud and solutions architects by assessing their solutions for feasibility and against the competencies and skills of the teams that need to execute them. You sometimes jump into projects to help them overcome a bump in the road and help colleagues to identify problems for what they are, and help them find the appropriate solution and to get the time they need to implement that solution.

Role responsibilities

• Building, changing, and maintaining cloud infrastructures in Azure – compute, data, and networking.
• Setting up logging, monitoring, and security.
• Support and teach teams to set up and maintain their pipelines.
• Coach mid and junior colleagues to improve their technical skills.
• Proactively advise teams, clients, and projects on cloud-related improvements in the areas of performance, availability, security, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
• Help project and service managers to budget and plan cloud work, identify project or SLA risks.
• Coordinate cloud work in a project with multiple cloud engineers.
• The single point of contact for client, project, and service management on cloud topics for a specific project.
• Make sure that documentation is created and maintained.
• Govern automation at the right level and quality.
• Supervise compliance with security standards and client requirements.

Must have qualifications

You and the role

You are someone with at least 5 years of experience as a cloud engineer in Azure. You communicate clearly, transparently, and proactively. You have worked in an environment where you needed to work together with developers to get things done. You have experience with public-facing online applications, high availability, and high traffic. You have a cooperative attitude, a DevOps mindset, and as such, you're interested in the work of others. You communicate easily and can explain technical concepts to non-technical people. You have a clear understanding of what information is needed at which time for a project manager or for the client. You have organizational sensitivity (and can explain what this means).

You have respect for your colleagues and embrace diversity in all its aspects.

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications: 

• You are assertive with good communication skills.
• You have experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• You have solid knowledge of the serverless services of Azure.
• You have knowledge and experience with monitoring systems, such as Application Insights, Azure Monitor, Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, and Tempo.
• You have knowledge of and experience with various pipelining tools, such as GitHub and Azure DevOps.
• You have knowledge of and experience with microservices-related technology: Docker and Kubernetes.
• You have a good conceptual understanding of cloud architecture and system thinking.
• You have worked as an engineer in a DevOps context.
• You have an excellent command of English (C2).
• Are familiar with the following technologies:
  • Container services
  • AKS
  • Azure functions
  • SQL as a service
  • Cosmos DB
  • Azure Monitoring (including APM)
  • AppGW, AFD, NSG, Azure Firewall
• Have worked within the context of publicly accessible, highly available eCommerce and / or experience platforms.
• Have experience working in an international context with on- and off-shore teams.
• You are used to communicate with external clients.

Role responsibilities

As a Senior Node.js Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend services that power modern digital platforms. You will play a key role in architecting microservices-based solutions and ensuring clean, maintainable, and production-ready code aligned with enterprise standards. 

Beyond implementation, you will actively bridge architecture and delivery — translating high-level system designs into robust, secure, and scalable technical solutions. You will challenge architectural assumptions when needed and ensure that technical decisions are pragmatic, sustainable, and aligned with business goals. 

You will: 

• Take ownership of backend domain architecture and drive technical excellence 

• Design and implement cloud-native solutions on AWS/Azure with scalability and resilience in mind 

• Lead complex integrations with eCommerce platforms, payment providers, CMS systems, and third-party services 

• Identify technical risks, performance bottlenecks, and architectural gaps early 

• Advocate for best practices in code quality, testing, CI/CD, and DevOps 

• Contribute to defining engineering standards and improving development processes 

• Support and mentor developers by reviewing code and promoting strong engineering principles 

You will collaborate closely with frontend engineers, architects, DevOps engineers, QA, and product stakeholders across international teams, ensuring alignment between technical design, implementation, and business outcomes in an agile environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Design and develop scalable backend systems  

• Architect and implement microservices following best practices  

• Build and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs 

• Integrate with third-party systems such as payment providers, CMS, eCommerce platforms, and external APIs 

• Design cloud-native solutions on platforms such as AWS or Azure 

• Ensure application performance, reliability, scalability, and security 

• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code with high test coverage 

• Bridge the gap between architecture and implementation, ensuring alignment between design and code 

• Proactively identify risks, technical debt, and improvement opportunities 

Knowledge & Technical Skills: 

• Strong skills and hands -on experience with: NODE JS (a must), Typescript (a must), JAVA (a plus)  

• Hands on experience in designing & developing Microservices based on headless architecture, domain driven design  

• Hands -on experience with integration technologies including REST & GraphQL APIs, and event -driven architectures (service bus)  

• Hands -on experience in designing Cloud solutions based on enterprise cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS)  

• Challenging the developers and architects to bridge the gap between the architecture and codebase level implementation  

• DevOps: GitHub, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes  

• Search & merchandising platforms (e.g. Algolia search, Elasticsearch)  

• Headless e-Commerce platforms (e.g. CommerceTools) and CMS experience (Bloomreach)  

•  Hands on experience with eCommerce integrations, payment processors, inventory systems, and external service APIs
