Software Engineer, Code Generation

MongoDB is building a world-class team in North America to create tooling that helps customers modernize their applications and migrate their data from legacy relational databases to MongoDB in real-time. As companies modernise legacy workloads and data ecosystems, they are increasingly drawn to the flexibility and scalability of the document model. The tools developed by the Code Generation and Data Migration team are critical in this journey, helping customers with schema modeling, code generation, initial data loads, and continuous data synchronization.
We're looking for a Senior Engineer with a strong background in computer science fundamentals, systems design, experience in the Java ecosystem, streaming systems, and data-intensive applications to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and optimizing the underlying data structures, algorithms, and database interactions that power our generative AI platform, code generation and migration tools. This involves crafting sophisticated orchestration layers, robust integration points, and high-performance data systems that seamlessly connect and leverage advanced AI capabilities for code generation and building a sophisticated data migration suite using a modern technology stack, which includes Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Debezium, and React.You will work on critical components that ensure the scalability, efficiency, and reliability of our services, collaborating closely with AI researchers, product management and other engineers to design and implement cutting-edge products that solve complex customer challenges.
This role will be based out of North America in the PST and MST zones only.
The ideal candidate for this role will have
- 2+ years of engineering experience in backend systems, distributed systems, or core platform development
- Experience in one or several of Java, Rust, C/C++, and/or Python, with a strong understanding of systems-level programming, memory management, and performance tuning
- Experience with streaming data platforms such as Apache Kafka and Change Data Capture (CDC) tools like Debezium
- Experience with relational data modeling and hands-on experience with at least one SQL database (Postgres, MySQL, etc)
- Exposure to client-side technologies such as JavaScript and React is a plus
- Good understanding of algorithms, data structures and their time and space complexity
- Curiosity, a positive attitude, and a drive to continue learning
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with cloud-native distributed systems (e.g., Kubernetes)
- Experience with NoSQL databases and understanding of their trade-offs is great, but not required. We'll teach you NoSQL
- Contributions to relevant open-source projects
Position Expectations
- Contribute high-quality, well-tested backend code to the data migration engine and core components of our generative AI orchestration platform
- Collaborate effectively with Product Management, AI researchers and machine learning engineers and designers to build and deliver on the product roadmap
- Work to develop robust and efficient backend services that orchestrate AI functionalities
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks and architectural challenges in our systems, particularly within data flow and orchestration
- Participate actively in code reviews to enforce best practices and patterns
- Help troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in our distributed systems
- Give and solicit feedback on technical design documents and pull requests
- Perform tasks related to process such as CI/CD, quality, testing, etc
Success Measures
Within the first three months, you will have:
- Familiarize yourself with the MongoDB database and aggregation language
- Familiarize yourself with the backend tech stack including Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka
- Set up software development infrastructure (tech stack, build tools, etc) to enable development using the relevant tech stacks
- Started collaborating with your peers and contributed to code reviews
Within six months, you will have:
- Familiarised yourself with the rest of our the application modernization tool stack
- Delivered at least one large scale feature that spans the entire tech stack
- Reviewed and contributed to scope and technical design documents
Within 12 months, you will have:
- Become a key contributor to our backend stack, capable of taking on complex features independently
- Helped recruit and interview new members of the team
- Collaborated effectively with other teams at MongoDB on cross-functional projects

The Information Security Risk Analyst is the operational engine of the internal risk program. While the Senior IRM Analyst and Risk Director define the strategic roadmap, the Analyst ensures the daily execution of that strategy. They are responsible for the "production line" of risk assessment: taking raw signals from the business, processing them through the established methodology, and outputting actionable risk decisions (Remediation or Acceptance).
The ultimate objective of this role is Reduction of Uncertainty. By managing the program effectively, the IRM Analyst ensures that MongoDB’s leadership has a clear, quantified view of the top risks facing the enterprise. They transform the Risk Register from a static spreadsheet into a dynamic governance tool that drives accountability.
The IRM Analyst must not be afraid to be in the trenches with the Engineering and Product teams. They are the primary face of the "Risk Intake Process," guiding stakeholders through the methodology. They are the gatekeeper of quality, ensuring that no risk enters the register until it has been properly scoped and quantified.
Responsibilities:
Risk Identification & Assessment
- Execute risk assessments under senior guidance - perform scoping, inherent risk scoring, control assessment, and residual risk calculation using established methodology
- Conduct risk identification intake, manage the flow of requests from Jira Service Desk and the Issue Intake Tracker, review incoming submissions against entry criteria, assign Risk IDs, and replicate validated risks into the Risk Register
- Act as the Triage Officer for incoming risk submissions, determine whether submissions represent strategic risks, operational issues, or duplicates. Filter noise to focus the team on signals
- Develop risk scenarios for in-scope assets by working with asset owners and risk owners , identify threat communities, threat events, and impact categories
- Draft Risk Assessment Memos that tell a cohesive story from risk statement to risk rating to actionable recommendation. Progressively build toward independently authored memos that require minimal review notes
- Monitor and flag emerging risk signals , including AI-related risks (model integrity, data poisoning, shadow AI, third-party AI dependencies) , and escalate with documented analysis for integration into the risk framework
Control Identification, Mapping & Assessment
- Identify and document controls that mitigate assessed risks , map controls to specific risk scenarios and applicable framework requirements (NIST SP 800-53, ISO 27001, SOC 2)
- Assess the design adequacy of controls , evaluate whether each control is appropriately designed to address the risk it is mapped to, and document findings with supporting rationale
- Assess the operating effectiveness of controls , collect and evaluate evidence to determine whether controls are functioning as designed over the assessment period, and document results
- Document control gaps and support remediation tracking , maintain clear records of where controls are missing, partially effective, or require compensating controls. Track remediation progress
- Maintain control-to-framework mappings to ensure risk assessment outputs directly support audit and certification evidence packages (FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS)
Risk Categorization & Governance
- Apply the established risk taxonomy and categorization methodology consistently across all assessed risks
- Process risk acceptance requests in Jira , validate completeness, ensure documented context and stakeholder sign-off, confirm time-bound conditions, and flag concerns to the Senior lead
- Maintain the Risk Register, risk inventory, and supporting trackers with obsessive attention to data integrity, no missing dates, undefined owners, or stale entries. A Risk Register with governance gaps is a program failure
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Contribute to KRI data collection and dashboard inputs , support accurate, timely reporting that feeds executive risk dashboards and governance forum materials
- Engage directly with technical stakeholders (engineering, product, infrastructure teams) during risk assessments , ask informed questions, gather evidence, and document findings
- Progressively build the technical fluency to lead stakeholder conversations independently , develop working proficiency in cloud-native architectures, SaaS security models, and common technical controls (IAM, encryption, network segmentation, logging/monitoring)
- Translate technical findings into clear, business-relevant risk language in all written work products
Policy, Process & Governance Hygiene
- Support drafting and maintaining risk procedures, guidelines, and assessment templates across the IRM program scope
- Execute governance hygiene , data quality, tracker maintenance, workflow adherence, evidence organization, and documentation standards
- Manage the risk assessment pipeline in Jira, create and maintain workflows, dashboards, and use JQL to track the assessment ticket lifecycle
Requirements:
Experience & Education:
- 3–5 years of experience in Information Security, Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), or Enterprise Risk Management
- Experience performing risk assessments — including risk identification, inherent/residual risk scoring, and documentation of findings
- Experience identifying, documenting, and evaluating controls — including assessment of design adequacy and operating effectiveness

Position Summary
Primary Responsibilities

Build and sustain strong relationships with national and regional medical and scientific thought leaders, patient advocacy groups, and centers of excellence aligned to Acadia’s Medical Affairs strategy

Education/Experience/Skills

Advanced scientific degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) in a relevant discipline

Prior Medical Science Liaison experience within a field-based medical affairs role

Demonstrated scientific and clinical expertise, with experience in rare diseases, epilepsy, neurology, or psychiatry

Strong working knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and clinical considerations impacting pharmaceutical and managed care environments

Position levels:
- Medical Science Liaison: $139,600 - $174,500 requires an advanced degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) in a scientific discipline, 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the medical, clinical, and/or pharmaceutical field
- Sr. Medical Science Liaison: $176,000 - $220,000 requires an advanced degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) in a scientific discipline, 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the medical, clinical, and/or pharmaceutical field, including 3 years as an MS
Physical Requirements
This role involves regular standing, walking, sitting, and the use of hands for handling or operating equipment. The employee may also need to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and maintain visual, verbal, and auditory communication in a standard office environment and while working independently from remote locations. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. WHAT YOU WILL DO
onX is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with a passion for building scalable platform Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems. Your focus will be on designing, developing, and scaling secure authentication, authorization, and user management services that are foundational to our platform. You will play a key role in evolving our IAM platform and delivering seamless cross-platform authentication across iOS, Android, and web.
You will be part of our Core Services team that enables product teams to build faster and more securely by providing core infrastructure, services, and patterns. This is a great opportunity to help shape the future of how users securely access and interact with onX's suite of outdoor technology products.
This position reports to the Director of Engineering, Core Services.
TECHNOLOGIES WE USE
Our backend engineers primarily work in Go running in Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform. The IAM team works extensively with identity platforms (Ory Kratos, Hydra, Oathkeeper), distributed databases (CockroachDB), and OAuth 2.0/session management patterns. Understanding mobile authentication tradeoffs (WebView vs. browser-based auth, token-based patterns) is particularly relevant for this role.
As an onX Senior Backend Engineer, your day to day responsibilities would look like:
(Essential Job Duties)
- Build scalable, secure IAM services that enable new features and products across the onX suite of apps
- Design and implement backend systems focusing on observability, fault-tolerance, security, and high performance
- Drive architectural decisions related to Identity and Access Management, ensuring alignment with and advancing our broader platform strategy
- Define and implement SLIs/SLOs for IAM services; drive reliability engineering practices including incident response and performance optimization
- Write thorough unit, integration, and acceptance tests to ensure high service quality and maintainability
- Document APIs, service architectures, and technical decisions for internal stakeholders and external partners as needed
- Collaborate closely with fellow engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders through design reviews, paired programming, and cross-functional planning sessions
- Leverage and extend existing onX services and platform patterns to drive consistency and reduce duplication
- Proactively improve system monitoring, alerting, diagnostics, and operational readiness of IAM-related services
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure backend services remain highly available and reliable
- Mentor and share knowledge with engineers on your team
- Lead by example and embody onX's company values, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration
LOCATION
onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub".
- Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.
- Basecamps: Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.
- Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
- Connection Hubs: Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.
- Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- B.S., M.S., or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field
- Eight or more years of professional software development experience, with API development as a primary focus for at least three of those years
- Strong Go/Golang backend development experience with RESTful API design
- Experience building and debugging distributed, scalable, highly available microservices architecture
- Solid understanding of identity systems: OAuth 2.0, session management, bearer token authentication, SSO integrations
- Experience with distributed databases (CockroachDB or similar PostgreSQL-compatible distributed systems) and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Excellence in designing and developing modern APIs and scalable systems that ensure reliability and extensibility
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform
- Strong computer science foundation
- Security-first mindset -- you think about threat models, secure defaults, and defense in depth as part of your design process
- You evaluate technologies and solutions based on merit, stability, performance, and the ability to debug
- Ability to write maintainable, well-tested code that's easy for others to understand
- A strong sense of ownership of your work
- Advocacy for customers -- both internal colleagues and end users -- and their experience
- Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX
Preferred Qualifications
Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
- Experience with identity platforms such as Ory Kratos, Auth0, Cognito, or similar
- Experience with the Ory Stack, especially Hydra, Kratos, and Oathkeeper
- Experience with Authzed SpiceDB, Google Zanzibar, or AWS Cedar for fine-grained authorization
- Understanding of mobile authentication patterns: WebView vs. browser auth tradeoffs, token-based flows across iOS/Android/web
- Reliability engineering experience: SLI/SLO implementation, incident response, performance optimization
- SOC2 compliance experience or familiarity with security audit frameworks
- Experience with Elixir or the Phoenix Framework
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
- Experience working with a distributed team
COMPENSATION
onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $146,000 to $182,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
