Why this role exists:
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead engineering teams within the Sports Business Unit, responsible for delivering all sports betting content and functionality for our B2B platform. The Sports BU owns end-to-end development of sports-related capabilities, including trading, feeds, risk management, mathematical models, odds services, and sportsbook content. This role combines people leadership, technical delivery ownership, and cross-functional collaboration with Product, Trading, and Platform teams to ensure scalable, reliable, and high-performance sportsbook solutions.
What you’ll drive:
Team management & people development
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and create development plans for team members.
- Address and resolve any conflicts or issues within the team promptly.
- Foster a collaborative environment where team members feel comfortable voicing their concerns.
- Provide training and development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills.
- Organize workshops, seminars, and other learning activities to keep the team updated with the latest technologies and best practices.
Project planning & delivery management
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Create detailed project plans, including timelines and resource allocation.
- Efficiently allocate resources to meet project demands and balance team workloads.
- Manage team schedules, including handling time-off requests and ensuring adequate coverage.
Quality assurance & technical governance
- Implement and enforce quality assurance processes and standards within the team.
- Ensure thorough testing and validation of deliverables before release.
- Review and approve technical designs, architecture, and code to maintain high-quality standards and ensure consistency.
- Ensure proper documentation of technical designs, system architecture, and code.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for future reference and knowledge sharing.
Process improvement & best practices
- Continuously seek ways to improve quality and efficiency in development processes.
- Promote agile methodologies and other best practices for software development.
- Identify areas for improvement in team processes and workflows. Implement changes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Promote the adoption of best practices in software development, including agile methodologies and lean processes.
- Track and analyze key performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Communication & stakeholder management
- Act as the primary point of contact between the team and upper management, as well as other departments.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the team and across the organization.
- Report on team progress, challenges, and successes to stakeholders and management.
- Ensure transparency and alignment between team efforts and business goals.
What makes you a GR8 fit:
Must-have
- Experience in the betting / trading domain.
- Strong experience with C# / .NET in building scalable, high-load backend systems.
- Experience designing distributed systems and microservices architectures.
- Solid knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging systems (Kafka or similar).
- Strong expertise in databases (SQL + NoSQL), including performance tuning and scaling.
- Experience with CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Ability to make architectural decisions and take ownership end-to-end.
- Experience operating high-availability, low-latency systems.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with Orleans, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, Aerospike.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with observability tools (APM, logging, tracing).
- Understanding of FinOps / cloud cost optimization.
- Previous experience mentoring or leading engineers.

About The Role
As a Data Engineer, you will be the primary architect of our data ecosystem. Alvys is shifting toward a Snowflake-centric data architecture to power our next generation of logistics intelligence. You aren't just building pipelines; you are defining our LLM-based data strategy, enabling large-scale ML model deployment, and leveraging Snowflake Cortex to turn fragmented logistics data into actionable AI-driven products.
This is a high-visibility, 'player-coach' position. You will work closely with leadership to ensure our data infrastructure supports real-time operational needs today while scaling for the AI-first logistics world of 2026 and beyond.
Our Tech Stack
- Data Platform: Snowflake (Warehouse, Cortex AI/ML, Semantic Models, LLM Agents)
- Data Pipelines: dbt, Fivetran, Reverse ETL (Census)
- AI/ML: Snowflake Cortex, OpenAI, Azure Cognitive
- Backend/Infra: .NET/C#, Python, Azure Ecosystem, GitHub Actions
- Define and implement the strategy for LLM-based data products, including data preparation, semantic layer design, and embedding pipelines for RAG-based applications.
- Own the design and evolution of our Snowflake architecture. Lead the implementation of Snowflake Cortex for AI/ML workloads, including semantic models and LLM agents.
- Design and maintain reliable, performant ELT/Reverse ETL pipelines. Ensure our multi-tenant SaaS data remains isolated, secure, and performant at scale.
- Build and operationalize pipelines for large-scale ML and LLM model development, moving from POC to production-grade deployment within the Snowflake perimeter.
- Think holistically about the data estate. Reduce complexity through modularity and well-defined service boundaries (e.g., Medallion Architecture).
- Serve as the go-to expert for emerging data trends. Mentor engineers and partner with Product and Design to translate complex business logic into automated deliverables.
- 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering with a proven track record of delivering mission-critical data platforms.
- Deep proficiency in Snowflake (Data Modeling, Query Optimization, Security, and Cortex AI functions).
- Expert-level skill in SQL and Python. Extensive experience with dbt and modern orchestration (Airflow/Dagster).
- Demonstrated experience building pipelines for ML or LLM-based applications, including feature engineering and model deployment.
- Competency in Azure (preferred) or other major cloud providers, including CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code principles.
- Experience driving cross-team consensus on architectural decisions and mentoring junior/mid-level engineers.
- Ownership: You take end-to-end responsibility. If it’s in production, it’s yours—from the initial schema design to the final dashboard latency.
- Pragmatism: You believe technical debt is a strategic choice. You choose solutions that scale and solve real problems over theoretical "perfection."
- Simplicity: You prioritize modularity and clean design to reduce cognitive load in a complex logistics domain.
