KARE-TV, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate, located in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN is looking for a producer to join our morning team.
We have a fun group of journalists who are passionate about morning news and actually like working “unique” hours.
Breaking news, weather and traffic are the core of what we do…both on the air and on our digital platforms. We also care deeply about our community, sharing people’s stories and connecting with them over the air and in person.
Responsibilities:
• Work directly with Executive Producer & news leaders to consistently build a high-quality news show
• Quickly react to breaking news and manage the show's timing
• Booth continuous coverage on broadcast and live streams for breaking news, weather coverage, and community events
• Use our extensive toolkit along with your own creative production techniques to enhance stories
• Write in an exciting, accurate, and urgent way with creative time-stamps
• Enterprise news stories
• Research stories to ensure they are factual and ascertain sources’ credibility
• Use social media and digital tools to research, discover, and produce content
• Lead and inspire a team to work together for a great newscast
• Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer
• And most of all…have fun
Requirements:
• College degree in journalism, communications or similar
• 1-3 years full-time newscast producing experience
• Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content
• Strong social media skills to deliver content and listen for ideas
• Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, and Axis graphics a plus
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under time pressure deadlines
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Shifts will include overnight hours, and may include holidays and weekends.

KARE 11, the TEGNA owned NBC affiliate in Minneapolis, MN is looking for a highly skilled artistic photographer and editor who can create sharable and exciting content for television, social media and mobile. We want journalists who can tell great stories on their own or with a team, photographers who bring new ideas for the future of journalism. Our ideal candidates are familiar with the latest photography, editing tools and techniques. They create unique and exciting content on all platforms. They are proficient with live news gathering tools and can participate in live performance on air and on live streaming when necessary.
Responsibilities:
• Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories, including but not limited to Edius and Adobe Products
• Produce original content on-air and on all digital platforms that evoke emotion and tell compelling stories
• Write and post daily on all digital platforms including attaching images and streaming video. Must include Social Media
• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
• Contact sources and develop news stories. Cover breaking, general, sports, feature, investigative, and political news stories. Produce news stories that are unique and captivating
• Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions, and suggest story ideas
• Edit and post video and text content stories for website
• Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer
Requirements:
• Current driver’s license and ability to operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations
• BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
• 2-5 years of experience preferred
• Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
• Proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
• Demonstrated social media proficiency, especially in the field, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
• Member and active participant in NPPA preferred
• SNG experience
• Demonstrated news judgment, writing skills, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills.

The Local Sales Manager (LSM) is responsible for growing market share and creating brand new TV/Digital business opportunities. The LSM manages and develops the Account Executives and Account Managers on the sales team and develops strategies to win over clients within the market. The LSM oversees performance and holds his team accountable for the achievement of their individual goals to achieve the collective objectives for both television and digital. This position reports to the Director of Sales.

Responsibilities:
- Recruit, retain and effectively train ‘A’ sales and support talent for your team on how to sell TV and TEGNA’s large portfolio of digital products.
- Lead and develop a team of direct reports consisting of Account Executives, Account Managers and manage a handful of dotted line reports.
- Supports sales staff with ride along coaching, participating in client meetings, developing proposals and other aspects of the full sales process.
- Identify market potential through lead generation and qualification.
- Develop sales strategy for your team and everyone on the team to reach or exceed revenue goals for the station.
- Analyze each account to create and maximize ideal marketing executions for clients, and complete appropriate business activity reports and forecasts as required.
- Develop strong relationships with local clients, manage key local accounts with your team and ensure top-shelf service is provided to all accounts.

Requirements:
- 3-5 years of successful broadcast TV sales and account engagement experience.
- Track record of successfully achieving or exceeding sales goals in the broadcast TV industry within fast-changing, dynamic environments, spanning all the facets of marketing solutions from linear TV to digital, including OTT.
- Established leadership skills and demonstrated ability to develop teams with elite sales and customer service skills.
- Strategic thinker and disciplined executor comfortable developing and making recommendations to senior management.

KARE-TV is on the hunt for a Chief Meteorologist who can lead a weather team and serve the Minneapolis-St. Paul market, and greater Minnesota. Our next Chief Meteorologist is a dynamic leader who has mastered every aspect of meteorology, from forecasting to preparing graphics, to reporting in the field, to being an integral part of severe weather coverage reaching our community on television, mobile and social media platforms. The Chief Meteorologist must have a passion for winning severe weather in all seasons and telling a compelling weather story even on bright sunny days. They need to embrace new technology, mentoring and developing their weather team, and be willing to explore new ways to present the weather story while also being a key leader in promoting community involvement.
Responsibilities:
• Works with the News Director to create and implement strategic direction for weather coverage
• Builds and delivers daily engaging weathercasts for on-air and digital audiences
• Supervises the weather team, including all schedules
• Interacts live with fans and the audience on multiple platforms, especially during severe or inconvenient weather
• Assists News Director with recruiting and hiring for the weather team
• Coaches and mentors weather team with regular feedback
• Works with the News Director and News Managers to develop plans for severe weather coverage

KARE 11 Minneapolis–St. Paul, the TEGNA NBC affiliate serving Minnesota’s largest television market, seeks a Broadcast Director. The primary responsibility of this position is directing daily newscasts, local programs, and live content across our over-the-air, digital, and streaming platforms using both production automation and manual switching. The Broadcast Director works closely with our news, production, and engineering teams to deliver fast-paced, visually compelling, and technically flawless newscasts and live events on all platforms.
We’re looking for a creative, detail-driven professional who brings forward-thinking production ideas, strong technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining exceptional quality control in a live broadcast environment. The ideal candidate is fluent in all aspects of studio operations—including floor direction, camera and teleprompter operation, audio mixing, lighting, graphics, non-linear editing, and content management systems—and thrives in a collaborative, deadline-driven newsroom.
Responsibilities:
• Direct live and recorded newscasts and special programming using both automated and manual production systems.
• Collaborate closely with news, production, and technical teams to deliver dynamic, accurate, and engaging broadcasts.
• Ensure the highest level of quality control across all live and pre-produced content, maintaining KARE11’s standard of visual excellence.
• Oversee and troubleshoot studio and control-room operations, including switchers, automation, graphics, audio, lighting, and playback systems.
• Operate and manage live streaming broadcasts using systems such as vMix to extend KARE11 content across digital platforms.
• Contribute to creative production elements, including camera blocking, lighting design, and show formatting, to elevate the viewer experience.
• Identify and resolve potential on-air issues quickly and effectively, especially during breaking news and live events.
• Assist in training and mentoring studio and control room staff to build operational excellence across shifts.
• Perform other duties within the production department as assigned.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in communications, Broadcast Production, or a related field preferred — equivalent experience considered.
• 3+ years of experience directing live newscasts or equivalent television production.
• Proven experience with production automation systems (e.g., Sony ELC, Ross OverDrive, or equivalent), video switchers, newsroom computer systems (ENPS), graphics platforms (Chyron or Ross XPression), and playout servers (BitCentral, etc.).
• Strong understanding of non-linear editing, content management systems, and studio production workflow.
• Ability to thrive under pressure, respond decisively to breaking news, and maintain composure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
• Flexible scheduling — must be available for weekends, early mornings, evenings, holidays, and breaking news coverage as needed.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift/push up to 25 lbs.

The Broadcast Engineer Lead is responsible for shaping system design decisions, defining local engineering standards, and leading complex projects that directly impact station operations. Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership & Ownership
- System Accountability: Serve as the primary technical owner for key broadcast and IT systems; ensure reliability, scalability, and long-term performance.

- Modernization: Proactively identify opportunities for upgrades and recommend technology roadmaps aligned with evolving business needs.

- Project Leadership & Design
- End-to-End Project Management: Lead the planning, technical design, and execution of major local, capital, and corporate engineering projects.

- Systems Integration: Design and approve the integration of studios, control rooms, transmission infrastructure, automation, and digital asset management systems.

- System Maintenance: Maintain and upgrade infrastructure including servers, storage, workstations, network systems, and assist with facilities coordination of HVAC, UPS, and backup power.
- Complex Troubleshooting: Oversee the resolution of systemic issues and manage technical support documentation to minimize downtime.
- Security & Regulatory Standards: Ensure strict adherence to FCC regulations, IT security protocols, OSHA requirements, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Documentation: Define and maintain rigorous local engineering standards, wiring documentation, and operating procedures.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent professional experience also considered.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in broadcast operations/technology with a proven track record of leading complex technical projects.
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with broadcast systems, networking, servers, and desktop support. Knowledge of satellite, microwave, and IP newsgathering technologies is highly preferred.
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems under high pressure, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Operational Flexibility: Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays and participate in an on‑call rotation to support a 24/7 news operation.
