The Role

SimplePractice is hiring for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team in a hybrid role. The ideal candidate will have expert-level knowledge in Ruby on Rails and extensive frontend development experience. This role will be instrumental in implementing a wide variety of planned features and service enhancements to support our growing platform.

As one of the first hires in our brand-new Mexico City location, you will play a pivotal role in helping us build a team of software developers who are passionate about what they do.

About You

• You work on the front-end with heavier emphasis on the backend to develop new features from start to finish, including design of architecture, coding, and testing

Responsibilities

• Build out the next generation practice management platform
• Work with our Engineering Leadership and Talent group to scale our new office in Mexico City
• Collaborate with our Product group to help understand customer needs, troubleshoot potential problems and define upcoming features
• Write clean, efficient and well-tested code that improves our code base in meaningful ways
• Own frontend architecture decisions including state management, UI performance, navigation
• Help diagnose problems and architect solutions

Desired Skills & Experience

• You have 2 to 5 years of engineering experience, with hands-on Ruby on Rails expertise for a part of your career
• You're proficient in English, with strong communication and collaboration skills
• You have a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
• You possess strong experience in at least one modern JavaScript framework, specifically Ember.js or React.js, and the ecosystem around those frameworks
• You have designed and implemented large, scalable web applications and have an appreciation for clean, elegant, and simple code
• You have experience taking Rails apps from idea to production
• You understand the value and nuances of Test-Driven Development
• You're comfortable working with remote teams, using GitHub, Slack, Notion, and Zoom to collaborate

Bonus Points

• You’re excited about holding a lead role to help us scale a brand new software developer office
• You have a good understanding of web application security and best practices
• Working knowledge of managing environments using Docker, MySQL, Postgres, Redis, NGINX, and various AWS services

As a Machine Learning Engineer, Applied AI, you’ll be at the forefront of building product features that help clinicians work effectively and efficiently, providing quality care to patients. You’ll be designing experiments, building robust models, tuning prompts, implementing LLM evals, and driving projects from idea to prototype to production with product, engineering and devOps teams. You’ll also play an important role in the roadmapping exercises of our ML platform.

Responsibilities

• AI Prototyping and Development
• Develop AI workflows, customize data pipelines,  tune models, and engineer prompts to bring idea to prototype 
• Work with subject matter experts to set up evaluation for AI workflows, ensuring rigor, quality and safety of content output 
• Work with eng partners to integrate AI workflows into production
• Build and configure AI performance monitoring with proper reporting and alerts
• Optimize and maintain AI workflows for performance, reliability, and long-term scalability

• Research 
• Start with the Job-to-be-done, dive deep into the domain and understand the problem from user perspective 
• Decompose problems into conquerable pieces. Design solutions to address each with cross-disciplinary thinking and big picture in mind. 
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to answer key questions and test assumptions. Design experiments and build prototypes for proof-of-concept. 
• Build artifacts to illustrate the findings with rigor and how they inform the roadmap and decisions

Desired Skills & Experience 

• BS or above in Computer Science, Statistics or a related technical field 
• 5+ years of experience in Machine Learning, with proven track record of bringing ideas to life, from prototype to productized features 
• Strong proficiency in Python and hands-on with advanced data analysis tools 
• Strong skills in data engineering and self-sufficient in data pipelines for the AI workflow
• Experience with AWS (or other cloud platforms) for model deployment
• Comfortable designing and evaluating LLM-driven workflows
• Familiarity with retrieval pipelines and vector databases 
• Problem-oriented mindset with strong cross-disciplinary thinking and a bias toward simplicity and clarity in solving problems 
• Comfort working with remote teams, using GitHub, Slack, Notion, and Zoom

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help lead the evolution of our data stack—from pipelines to platform. In this role, you'll build the infrastructure that powers everything from product intelligence to financial reporting and self-serve analytics in product

Our customers are clinicians in small to mid-sized private practices, and the data you shape will directly help them run more efficient, effective businesses. By enabling accessible insights—from no-show trends to client engagement—you’ll give practitioners the tools to make smarter, faster decisions about how they manage care.

Internally, your work will fuel everything from executive reporting and revenue forecasting to product analytics and AI evaluation loops. You’ll collaborate across Data Analytics, ML, Product, and Engineering teams to build scalable, reliable systems that make data a first-class product at SimplePractice.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product, Analytics and Engineering to build scalable systems that help unlock the value of data from a wide range of sources such as backend databases, event streams, and marketing platforms
• Lead technical vision and architecture with holistic point of view on both short-term and long-term horizons 
• Work with analytics to create company wide alignment through standardized metrics across the company
• Work with Product and Engineering teams to support internal use cases such as financial reporting, product analytics and operational metrics
• Enable external use cases like customer-facing dashboard, self-serve analytics, and next best action in product 
• Manage the complete data stack from ingestion through data consumption
• Build tools to increase transparency in reporting company wide business outcomes
• Work with DevOps to deploy and maintain data solutions leveraging cloud data technologies, preferably in AWS
• Help define data quality and data security framework to measure and monitor data quality across the enterprise. Define and promote data engineering best practice

  • BS/MS in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • 7+ years in Data or Analytics Engineering
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills; comfortable in fast-paced, cross-functional environments

  • Enterprise architecture and enterprise data architecture (data modeling and enterprise dimensional modeling)
  • Expert in SQL and data modeling (relational, dimensional, semantic)
  • Proven experience in data warehouse design, implementation, and maintenance (Snowflake)
  • Hands-on with DBT for modular, testable transformations
  • Experience with orchestration and ingestion tools: Airflow, Prefect, Airbyte, Fivetran, Kafka
  • Familiar with ELT, schema-on-read, DAGs, and performance optimization
• Cloud & Infrastructure
  • Experience with AWS (S3, RDS, Redshift, etc.)
  • Familiar with Terraform, Docker, and containerized workflows (bonus)
  • Skilled in handling structured, semi-structured (e.g., JSON), and columnar formats (e.g., Parquet, ORC)

  • Experience building and supporting semantic layers for self-serve analytics
  • Proficient with BI tools like Looker, Tableau, or Sisense
  • Comfortable standardizing metrics and enabling trusted, consistent access to data
