THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for an autonomous, strategic, and flexible mid-level Legal Counsel who will thrive in a high-pressure, high-stakes creative environment. This role will handle deal negotiations for a broad range of creative production projects across Asia-Pacific, clearance of international marketing campaigns, provide practical and business-focused guidance and support to internal business stakeholders as well as working collaboratively alongside our other regional legal teams. This is a role where you’ll report to a Senior Legal Counsel (APAC), partner with the rest of the legal team working across the globe and collaborate with counterparts in other functions (e.g. Finance, HR, Tax, IT/Data and Growth teams).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Draft, negotiate, and review a variety of legal documents and contracts that bolster our creative production teams in taking on bigger and bolder projects. Your primary focus will be on our MSAs, Statements of Work, RfPs, NDAs, and third party agreements.
- Join negotiations with internal teams and clients on commercial contracts and other legal agreements for our projects to negotiate commercial terms to align with company policies and objectives as well as mitigate potential risks involved with specific contract terms.
- Provide legal support and advice on compliance and clearance matters for all of our projects and campaigns in APAC.
- Work collaboratively with the APAC legal team to create, update and roll out contract policies and commercial/legal strategies to ensure the support of the business as it scales.
- Monitor changes and developments in the legal and regulatory environment in the APAC markets, and provide appropriate advice on such changes and developments.
- Liaise with account managers and producers, amongst others throughout the company, to ensure correct implementation of all legal guidelines and other policies, and ensure compliance at all times. You will act as a trusted advisor to the internal stakeholders and make sure that compliance can be ensured.
- Create, maintain, and update internal agreement templates to reflect changes in the company's business and the legal landscape in general.
- Stay current on relevant industry, commercial, IP, privacy, data, employment, and other laws, regulations, and developments to adapt our commercial processes accordingly.
- Help manage our legal administration to keep our day-to-day legal practices up-to-date.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years experience working in a similar role - ideally with some in-house counsel experience.
- Qualified lawyer in good standing admitted to practice in a qualified jurisdiction.
- You can work in English and Mandarin at a high professional level (written and verbal).
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with digital advertising, technology, content and digital media, contract and commercial law, and copyright matters.
- Experience in privacy, intellectual property, HR and general corporate law is a huge plus.
- You have excellent communication skills and are fluent in English and Mandarin (written and verbal). Other languages are a plus!
- You have negotiating skills and are experienced in drafting commercial contracts.
- You can provide practical and business-focused guidance and support to internal business stakeholders.
- You have excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- You have a good eye for detail, as well as an ability to understand the bigger picture.
- You’re proactive, strategic, and results-oriented; able to work on tight deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.

Why This Role Matters
We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to help shape a tech-driven legal function at a truly pivotal moment. Backed by Insight Partners and operating across 30+ countries, this is a rare opportunity to have a genuine strategic influence at a high-growth global SaaS company - not just a seat at the table, but a hand in building it.
You won’t just be giving advice - you will be an architect. This is a broad role covering everything from product compliance to data privacy and financial services regulation and commercial contracting, with particular depth in two areas: partnering with our Product & Tech team to navigate complex global regulations spanning 50 U.S. states and 30+ countries, and supporting ROLLER’s growing Financial Services product suite. You’ll do all of this while implementing the AI and legal-tech systems that allow a high-growth company to scale without friction.
What You'll Do
Product Compliance & Strategy
- Act as a strategic partner to the Product & Tech team, providing legal counsel that balances technical compliance with commercial velocity.
- Design and implement a scalable system to track and interpret regulatory changes across 30+ countries and 50 U.S. states
- Manage a global network of local counsel to ensure international compliance, translating complex foreign laws into actionable product requirements.
Financial Services & FinTech
- Provide lead counsel for ROLLER’s financial product suite, including Payment and Capital..
- Navigate the intersection of technology and financial services regulation to support new product launches.
Data Privacy, Consumer and Competition Law
- Partner with Security to support the implementation of the compliance framework for global data privacy (APP, GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and security.
- Partner with the broader ROLLER business to support compliance with consumer protection and trade practices law in Australia and globally as we expand.
General & Growth Support
- Support the broader Legal function on high-impact projects, including M&A, partnerships, SaaS contracting, and global leasing.
- Procure and implement cutting-edge technology solutions to support the growth, accuracy, and efficiency of the Legal function.
About You
- Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Australia, England and Wales, or the United States. Dual qualification is a plus.
- 8-12 years PQE, with meaningful in-house exposure alongside a strong private practice foundation - ideally from a tech-focused practice group.
- Experience at a global or scaled SaaS or fintech company is highly valued - you’ll need breadth, not depth in one narrow area.
- Commercial mindset where you understand that your job is to enable the business to move fast, not just manage risk.
- System builder track record - you’ve built legal processes and playbooks from scratch and driven adoption across a business.
- Genuine curiosity about AI and legal-tech; you don’t need to have mastered every tool, but you lean in, learn fast, and look for smarter ways to work.

As Senior Compliance Counsel, you’ll join the team supporting Akaysha’s operations as a global corporation across every phase of the asset lifecycle. Recently, the Legal, Risk & Compliance Pillar has delivered significant outcomes across regulatory tenders, financing facilities, and large-scale asset construction.
Building on this momentum, the Senior Compliance Counsel plays a pivotal role in setting the enterprise compliance strategy, leading and developing the enterprise compliance team, and ensuring the Board, Management and employees understand and meet their regulatory obligations through effective frameworks, systems, training, oversight and reporting across Australia and all other jurisdictions where Akaysha operates.
The role works closely with the General Counsel, the Principal of Risk & Insurance, and relevant functions across the organisation to develop, implement, and monitor compliance frameworks, systems, policies, procedures, and regulatory obligation registers in alignment with sound governance, compliance, and risk management practices.
This role provides the flexibility to be based at Akaysha’s Melbourne (HQ), or Sydney Office with the option to work in a hybrid capacity – spend time in the office, and at home.
Your experience will be critical to:
- Develop, implement and continuously improve Akaysha’s enterprise compliance framework and strategy, ensuring alignment with global best practice and scalability across all asset lifecycle phases.
- Lead, coach and build capability within the compliance team, and act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and operational teams.
- Identify, map and oversee regulatory obligations and compliance registers across all jurisdictions, including engaging with regulators and coordinating responses to audits and reviews.
- Oversee and guide compliance with energy market rules, trading obligations, competition laws, data protection, and other regulatory domains.
- Coordinate compliance with the Australian SOCI Act and equivalent regimes elsewhere, including developing policies, conducting monitoring and assurance activities, and overseeing training and incident management.
Making an impact in this role will rely on experience across the following areas:
- Enterprise Compliance Framework Design
Ability to design and operate an integrated, risk-based compliance framework aligned to global standards (e.g. ISO 37301) and suited to regulated energy and infrastructure businesses.
- Competition & Antitrust Compliance
Understanding of competition and antitrust laws relevant to energy markets and trading activities, with the ability to implement preventative controls and training.
- Energy Market Rules Compliance
