The Opportunity

The Sales Engineer position serves a critical role in driving successful deal closure and future growth in the Asia Pacific, in close collaboration with sales. Our ideal candidate will have subject matter experience presenting the MariaDB portfolio, including its in-memory compute platform, designing and driving solutions to address clients' data and database-centric business challenges in their organization. He or she needs to possess domain knowledge and maintain flexibility to successfully contribute to the seamless execution of multiple sales cycles.  

This role will be involved in creating SOWs with the help of the technical team, and will support development and prep for presentations, web conferences, white papers, workflows, and RFP/RFI's. Responsibilities

• Work directly with customers, partners and sales leadership to bring deals to fruition. (This is a role for someone with a bias for action, ready to roll up their sleeves!)
• The following are sales engineering-related best practices.
  • Leverage your high level of sales acumen and enterprise technology expertise on a daily basis.
  • Partner closely with the global sales organization to prioritize resources that put us in the best position to meet our targets.
  • GTM: Reaching, assessing client pain-points and needs, and following through with the best solutions.
  • Successfully manage stakeholders at all levels, CIOs / CTOs / CXOs, DBAs, and
  • Experience across channel sales from ISVs to vendors and consultancies.
  • Travel, when needed, to support sales efforts and help grow the scope of opportunities, engineer tangible solutions for customers, and assist in driving deal closures.
• Travel to man a booth at conferences when needed.

Qualifications

• 8 to 10 years of hands-on Senior Sales Engineer Experience
• Strong Database or Database Architecture skills (MariaDB or MySQL strongly preferred, with a good knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server).
• In-memory compute platform skills, such as Redis and Apache Ignite, are desirable
• A working understanding of other databases and open-source technologies.
• Experience working on complex customer PoC engagements.
• Experience collaborating with customer success and field teams in customer orientation efforts.
• The ability and willingness to travel as needed, along with working off-hours when required.
• The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be highly organized.
• Very strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Fundamental knowledge of programming languages, web stack technologies, Linux, AI development, etc.
• Experience working 100% remotely with regional travel as required.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field
• English fluency, both verbally and in writing, is mandatory; additional regional language skills are preferred
• Flexibility to travel up to 40% of the time (valid passport required).

Bonus Experience and Skills

• Experience with pre-sales in an open-source software environment
• Experience with pre-sales in a SaaS or managed services environment
• Cloud engineering / public cloud experience
• Kubernetes and Java skills
• History of public speaking and writing (blogs and articles)

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development of backend systems for the company’s centralized exchange (CEX), providing technical support for core business operations.
• Design architectures for complex future payment-related systems; demonstrate strong capabilities in designing large-scale distributed systems while ensuring high-quality architecture that balances development, operational, maintenance, and reliability costs.
• Contribute to solution design and technical reviews for key engineering projects; conduct quality assessments, identify issues during system iteration, and help enhance team efficiency and development quality.
• Lead research and resolution of critical technical challenges, ensuring stability of the core systems.
• Participate in core architecture implementation, write high-quality code, train and guide developers, and help standardize engineering processes.
• Lead the design, development, and innovation of real-time computing systems.
• Drive the architectural evolution of the trading matching engine (handling tens of millions to hundreds of millions of daily requests).
• Lead the development of rule engines, variable platforms, and other mid-platform (middleware) systems.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; expert-level proficiency in Java and its ecosystem, with 8+ years of hands-on development experience.
• Experience in developing and optimizing large-scale data aggregation, query, and computation systems.
• Experience with large-scale system refactoring; hands-on exposure to DDD, middleware platforms, and CI/CD is a strong plus.
• Deep understanding of Java-related frameworks such as Spring Cloud Alibaba, MyBatis—their design principles and internal mechanisms; strong knowledge of transactions and distributed transactions.
• Proficient in Redis and at least one MQ technology such as RabbitMQ or RocketMQ; familiarity with middleware such as SkyWalking, CAT, and scheduling/orchestration systems.
• Experience building or promoting core frameworks in large-scale companies is preferred.
• Familiar with common networking issues and capable of effective troubleshooting.
• CEX experience is mandatory.
