Wave is now the largest financial institution in Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire, with millions of users, growing rapidly year-on-year. And, we’re still in the early days of our product roadmap and potential impact on people’s everyday lives.

We’re looking for an experienced security engineer who’s independent, excited about getting things done, and ready to hit the ground running. You'll primarily be responsible for our application security, working with our product teams to work on new systems to enhance our security posture. Our customers trust us with their money, and you’ll be at the forefront of making sure we retain that trust!

This broadly scoped role will allow you to get your hands on many different types of security projects, from direct application security to helping our infrastructure team think about security for our databases. 

Some experience with common industry certifications like ISO-27001 and PCI-DSS would be beneficial, although you won’t be expected to run or oversee audits.

Our to-do list changes constantly, but here are some recent projects and activities:

• Centralise application-level login and permissions enforcement
• Configure and utilise external SIEM solutions to monitor our infrastructure
• Help us increase our posture around secret management
• Security review of our public-facing APIs
• Partner with teams across Wave to define secure guardrails, supporting investigations and incident response
• Work with our IT Team to fix any non-conformities found during audits by central banks and ISO certification

Our stack (prior experience is a strong plus, but not required):

Key Details

• This is a fully remote role. Candidates must be based in one of our talent hub countries (UK, Spain, Kenya and Ghana) or in one of our operating markets in Africa including Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, or Burkina Faso.
• Wave provides a yearly $1,200 stipend to support coworking meetups with teammates.
• Remote team members are expected to travel to our operational markets (e.g. Senegal or Côte d'Ivoire) at least once a year. Exceptions apply, but we’ve found this key to understanding our users and product.
• Our salaries are competitive and are calculated using a transparent formula. For this role, depending on your level and location, we offer a salary of up to $227,900 USD, plus a generous equity package.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience with a minimum of 2 years of it spent in a security-related role.
• Strong Experience with Python.
• Fluent English.

We leave TODOs and file follow-ups. We don’t over-perfect v1. That said, we’re building a financial product. Some things—like money movement, correctness, or security—deserve more caution.

We like boring technology. We favor tools that are reliable, well-understood, and easy to debug. This keeps us focused on solving meaningful problems instead of wrestling with unpredictable infrastructure. If a new technology helps us move faster, build safer, or solve a real need, we’ll consider it. But we don’t adopt tools just because they’re new—we adopt them because they’re right.

We are growing our product design team and looking for an experienced mobile designer to help make great iOS and Android apps. You will have the opportunity to make financial services more accessible and inclusive for millions of people through working with thoughtful product managers, researchers, and engineers!

In this role you’ll;

• Work closely with product managers, user researchers, engineers, and data analysts from the start to end of a feature.
• Create high quality designs, interactions, and prototypes to explore ideas in service of the best solution for the project (Wave uses Figma).
• Craft user research plans and work directly with our product operations analysts/user researchers to identify problems and validate solutions in user testing.
• Contribute to Wave’s design system and component library.
• Talk to customers and find solutions to their problems by thinking critically from their perspective.
• Communicate the reasoning behind your product decisions in review sessions. 
• Prototype visual and UX concepts and iterate towards the right solution.

Key details

• This is a fully remote role. Candidates must be based in one of our hiring hubs (US, UK, Spain, Kenya, Ghana, Canada) or in one of our operating markets in Africa, including Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and Burkina Faso.
• You'll travel to one of our key markets for a 1 week immersion trip with your immediate team (Wave covers all costs). Outside of this 1 week immersion, you’ll also travel to a market country with our product design lead and PMs, for a total of travel 2x a year. You’re highly encouraged to visit market counties more often! We also provide a yearly stipend of $1,200 USD to meet with coworkers every year.

For this role, we are offering a salary of up to 216,900 USD based on your location (paid in your local currency equivalent), plus a generous equity package.

Requirements

• Fluency in English. 
• At least 8 years of end-to-end in-house experience, preferably with a consumer focus product design with mobile apps.
• Excellent visual and interaction design skills, with an eye at removing friction from flows.
• Attention to detail and high level of visual craft.
• Strong illustration and animation skills. We use After Effects at Wave but anything that can be converted to a Lottie file works.
• Ability to deliver high-quality designs with speed and polish.
• Bias towards action. Identify UX improvements without waiting for the perfect conditions.
• Experience with low and high-fidelity design & prototyping.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to think through complex interaction design as well as thinking about tradeoffs of each solution.
• Curiosity for understanding and unpacking customer behaviors and needs.
• Experience balancing business goals, customer needs, and technical tradeoffs, while explaining your point of view to the team.

• Enjoy pairing with designers, engineers, and product managers.
• Are excited to learn about how all our products work together.
• Can speak, read, and write in French. This is nice to have but not a strong requirement - we have large markets in West Africa where French will come in handy. There are plenty of folks at Wave who do not speak/read/write in French and still do well :)

Overview

The responsibilities of our Platform team include building and maintaining all backend services, including, but not limited to, payments, analytics, subscriptions, new products, text to speech, and external APIs.

This is a key role and ideal for someone who thinks strategically, enjoys fast-paced environments, is passionate about making product decisions, and has experience building great user experiences that delight users.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain robust APIs including public TTS API, internal APIs like Payment, Subscription, Auth and Consumption Tracking, ensuring they meet business and scalability requirements
• Oversee the full backend API landscape, enhancing and optimizing for performance and maintainability
• Collaborate on B2B solutions, focusing on customization and integration needs for enterprise clients
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to align backend architecture with overall product strategy and user experience

An Ideal Candidate Should Have

• Proven experience in backend development: TS/Node (required)
• Direct experience with GCP and knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers
• Efficiency in ideation and implementation, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and impact
• Preferred: Experience with Docker and containerized deployments
• Preferred: Proficiency in deploying high availability applications on Kubernetes
