The Engineering Architect Team

The Architecture team is a small group of very senior engineers reporting to our VP of Engineering Excellence, working broadly across the organization in collaboration with Engineering, Product, and Security.  We partner deeply with other Engineering teams for large projects, and provide direction and architectural guidance for smaller initiatives.  We have a dual-pronged charter to “level up the tech stack and level up the people stack” via both technical contributions and partnerships/mentoring.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to Auth0’s future technology direction.  Through your experience, knowledge of industry trends, and technical abilities you will provide guidance, build proof of concepts, and deliver production software implementations that help Auth0 Engineering teams move faster by using and developing standard patterns and technologies. You will also help advance the engineering culture and help uplevel other engineers. Note that while this role involves a lot of guidance, documentation, and leadership, it also requires substantial hands-on coding and development of both applications and systems.

What you’ll be doing

• You will collaborate with Product, Security, and Engineering teams to define and continually improve Auth0’s technology stack and architecture.
• Foster and lead innovation in the IAM space, with a strong focus on Agentic Identity
• Lead initiatives to enhance, scale, and evolve Auth0’s product offerings.
• Embed within Engineering teams across the organization for large projects, while providing guidance and lighter touch engagements for smaller initiatives.
• Design, architect, and document large scale distributed systems.
• Lead the development of complex, broadly-scoped functionality in a very large and deep set of services and components.
• Teach by doing: coding, optimizing, and troubleshooting Node.js and Go applications in collaboration with feature development teams.
• Implement features and create consistent foundations using technologies such as AWS, Azure, Node.js, Go, MongoDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes.
• Investigate, understand, and resolve bottlenecks in our ability to scale, use resources efficiently, and maintain a 99.99% uptime SLA.
• Drive technical decision making while striving to find the right balance between factors such as simplicity, flexibility, reliability, cost, and performance.
• Participate in “round table” discussions and mentor team members and engineers throughout the organization to level up our people.
• Participate in our Engineering Leadership Team with other architects, directors, and executives.
• You will join our Incident Commander on-call rotation. Members of our team do periodic on-call rotation for high-severity incidents to help up-level our responses After spending time getting acquainted with our applications, systems, and processes, and getting training to 

What you’ll bring to the role

• Passion and thorough understanding of what it takes to build and operate secure, reliable systems at scale.
• Knowledge of Identity Protocols such as OAuth, OIDC and SAML.
• Industry knowledge of the Authorization and Authentication spaces.
• Experience in building AI Agents, and/or MCP servers applications. 
• Experience with security engineering and application security.
• Very strong written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to adjust your communication style to the intended audience, whether communicating with senior executives, customers, engineers, or product managers.
• Mastery and deep understanding of hands-on software development building distributed systems.
• Experience with API-first applications using REST and/or gRPC.
• Experience with multi-cloud environments and container deployments, particularly Kubernetes in AWS/Azure.
• Prior experience with application performance management, tracing, and performance testing tools.
• Excellence at creating clarity and alignment for technical initiatives. 
• Great ability to build trust through collaboration with multiple teams and get consensus on a vision.
• Knowledge of application security and cloud security best practices.
• 10+ years of software development experience.
• 5+ years of experience working on cloud applications.

And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following!

- Deep experience in Node.js (Javascript or Typescript), or Golang.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Senior MTS - Software Development Engineer

The Observability team delivers performant, resilient, and scalable solutions that power our observability platform. This infrastructure spans the full data lifecycle — collection, transmission, processing, storage, and analysis — underpinning Aviatrix's end-to-end multi-cloud networking solution.

We are looking for a Sr. Member of Technical Staff (Sr. MTS) to join the Observability team. In this role, you will independently solve technically difficult problems, contribute to platform architecture, and deliver impactful improvements to the security, quality, reliability, and performance of our observability systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Execution

• Design and implement solutions to a wide range of technically difficult problems across observability plane modules, using primarily Golang, Javascript and Python
• Deliver features and improvements independently; demonstrate initiative and sound technical judgment throughout the development lifecycle
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code consistent with objectives set by Engineering leadership
• Develop imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions that incrementally improve product security, quality, reliability, performance, and ease of operations for customers

Project Ownership & Planning

• Set milestones for assigned tasks and prioritize work to meet release schedules
• Proactively identify risks and communicate progress at critical checkpoints, ensuring soundness of technical judgment and overall accuracy of deliverables
• Work effectively under general supervision, with the ability to drive tasks to completion with minimal day-to-day guidance

Architecture & Design

• Apply and advance core technical standards, principles, and best practices in data pipeline development and observability infrastructure
• Participate actively in design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback that improves quality and shares knowledge across the team
• Evaluate and recommend approaches for collecting, transmitting, processing, and storing large-scale observability data in multi-cloud environments

Collaboration & Communication

• Engage frequently across organizational boundaries, representing the team in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects or customer escalations
• Contribute actively to team and Engineering meetings; may participate in cross-functional teams
• Communicate technical decisions clearly — both in written documentation and verbal discussion — to engineering peers and stakeholders

Quality & Operational Excellence

• Contribute to improving test coverage, potentially beyond core project areas
• Participate in on-call rotations; take ownership of diagnosing and resolving production issues in observability systems
• Drive incremental improvements to engineering practices, including testing standards and operational runbooks

REQUIREMENTS

• 3+ years of relevant software development experience with a BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Demonstrated ability to independently solve defined but technically difficult problems end-to-end
• Proficiency in Golang (strongly preferred) and/or Python
• Experience building and operating microservice-based architectures
• Strong knowledge of data pipeline development and ETL best practices
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals: clean, testable, well-documented code
• Strong communication skills — able to represent the team in technical discussions and customer-facing escalations
• Collaborative team player who thrives in startup-style environments

Preferred

• Prior experience with one or more Cloud Service Providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, Alibaba Cloud)
• Experience with nodejs and javascript backend UI development.
• Experience deploying and managing big data or streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Flink, Spark, ClickHouse) on Kubernetes
• Familiarity with observability tooling and standards (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, distributed tracing)

US Pay Range

The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $157,700-$185,500 + benefits + 401(k) match + equity and is bonus eligible. The Aviatrix SRE team is a small but highly skilled global group of Systems Engineers/SREs dedicated to ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of Aviatrix’s critical systems and services. Our mission is to build and maintain a robust, resilient infrastructure that enables Aviatrix to deliver high-quality services with agility through automation, best practices, and a culture of operational excellence.

As a Member of Technical Staff (MTS) Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll be developing your foundational SRE skills while contributing to the reliability and performance of our systems. You’ll work under supervision to implement solutions, learn our infrastructure, and gain hands-on experience with production systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Kubernetes: Learn to manage basic application deployments, assist with troubleshooting, and support monitoring tasks
• Infrastructure as Code: Implement IaC for straightforward provisioning tasks and configuration changes
• Automation & Development: Contribute to existing automation tools and frameworks in Golang and Python
• Basic System Maintenance: Contribute to system reliability through routine maintenance tasks and monitoring
• Implementation Support: Implement well-defined solutions for moderate complexity technical problems
• Reliability Engineering: Learn fundamentals of system reliability; contribute to maintaining uptime for well-defined services under guidance
• Automation Excellence: Execute basic automation scripts; contribute to existing automation frameworks with supervision
• Observability: Implement basic monitoring configurations; learn to read dashboards and interpret common metrics
• Incident Management: Participate in incident response with escalation support; document findings and learnings
• Performance Engineering: Monitor system performance using established metrics; escalate performance issues appropriately
• Collaboration: Participate actively in team meetings; communicate status and blockers effectively

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience: 0-3+ years in software engineering, system administration, or related technical roles
• Education: BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Programming: Basic proficiency in at least one programming language (Golang, Python preferred)
• Cloud Platforms: Foundational knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Linux: Basic Linux system administration skills
• Version Control: Experience with Git and code review processes
• Communication: Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn
• Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems independently

US Pay Range

The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $111,600-$131,300 + benefits + 401(k) match + equity and is bonus eligible.
