Senior Growth Engineer (f/m/x)
The role
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Growth Engineer to design, implement, and manage scalable API integrations that connect HelloFresh with external partner ecosystems including telecoms, financial providers, loyalty programs, and health/wellness platforms.
This role combines technical execution (building and deploying APIs, data workflows, and automation) with project ownership (defining requirements, managing partners, ensuring delivery).
You will own integrations from design to production, delivering end-to-end partner connectivity that enables subscription bundling, loyalty rewards, account linking, and nutrition data exchange, all while maintaining reliability, compliance, and a seamless customer experience.
What you'll do

Architectural Leadership: Design integration architectures aligned with HelloFresh’s core systems (account, billing, and loyalty domains). Establish standardized patterns and templates for scalable partner onboarding.

End-to-End Delivery: Lead the full lifecycle of new partner integrations—from initial scoping and technical solution design to implementation and go-live.

Technical Execution: Develop and deploy robust RESTful APIs (Python/FastAPI or Node.js) and webhooks to enable bundled subscriptions and account linking.

Partner Ownership: Act as the primary technical point of contact for external partner engineering teams. Translate complex partner requirements into concrete technical specifications.

Strategy & Optimization: Implement logic for revenue share and loyalty attribution, ensuring integrations are reliable, secure, and compliant with global standards (GDPR/PII).
What you'll bring

Technical Skills: * Expertise in RESTful API development (Python with FastAPI preferred, or Node.js).

Deep understanding of OAuth2 / OpenID Connect, webhooks, and secure token exchange.

Strong experience in API design, documentation (Swagger), and testing.

Proficiency with AWS cloud environments (Container Registry, Cloud Storage) and SQL/NoSQL databases.

What You’ll Bring

The Role
We're looking for a Backend Engineer to join our small, focused ClickHouse team. You'll work on the systems that power our managed ClickHouse service – building, scaling, and operating infrastructure that thousands of customers depend on daily.
You'll write Python that orchestrates database lifecycle operations, dig into Linux internals when things get interesting, and ship features through a well-established CI/CD pipeline. You'll work in a modern async-first Python codebase alongside engineers who care about code quality, type safety, and automation.
If you have experience with ClickHouse internals or C++ – even better. But what matters most is strong backend fundamentals and a genuine interest in databases and distributed systems.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services in Python (FastAPI, asyncio, psycopg2) that manage the ClickHouse service lifecycle
- Work with CI/CD pipelines (Buildkite, GitHub Actions) to ship code reliably and often
- Investigate and resolve production issues across the stack – from Python application code down to Linux system behavior
- Contribute to technical planning within a small team where your input directly shapes the roadmap
- Write well-tested, type-checked code and participate in thorough code reviews
- Use AI coding tools as part of your daily workflow to accelerate development
What We're Looking For
Must have:
- Solid Python development skills -- you write clean, production-grade Python and understand async patterns (asyncio, aiohttp)
- Strong understanding of databases -- you know how relational and analytical databases work under the hood, not just how to query them
- Deep Linux knowledge (Fedora preferred) -- comfortable with systemd, process management, filesystem internals, and debugging at the OS level
- CI/CD experience -- you've built and maintained delivery pipelines, not just used them
- Familiarity with automated testing -- unit, integration, and system tests are part of how you work
- Experience with AI coding tools -- you actively use AI-assisted development in your workflow and understand how to get the most out of it
- Distributed systems awareness -- you understand the challenges of running services across multiple nodes and regions
- Fluent English -- written and verbal
Nice to have:
- ClickHouse experience -- operational knowledge, query optimization, or contributions to the project
- C++ or C -- ability to read and contribute to database engine code
- Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, Azure) with Terraform or similar IaC tools
- PostgreSQL operational experience
- Software and network security knowledge

What you can expect
Frontend & Experience Development
- Build modern, high-performance web interfaces for complex applications
- Translate UX/UI concepts into scalable frontend architectures
- Design interfaces that make complex AI and agent-driven systems intuitive and usable

- Contribute to RFPs, pitches, and interactive prototypes
API & Backend Integration
- Develop and integrate APIs for data- and AI-driven applications
- Integrate agentic workflows and orchestration layers into usable application logic
- Work with structured data models, authentication, and interface logic
System Thinking & Collaboration
- Act as the interface layer between users and agentic systems—making multi-agent workflows accessible and controllable
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, AI Engineers, and Solution Architects
- Design modular components and reusable system patterns
- Bring structure to technical decisions and reduce system complexity
What we'd love to see
- Several years of experience building modern web applications (frontend + API)
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and frameworks like React, Next.js, or Vue
- Experience designing and integrating REST or GraphQL APIs
- Experience with AI/GenAI integrations (e.g. OpenAI, Gemini APIs)
- Solid understanding of state management, performance, accessibility, and responsive design
- Experience with backend technologies (e.g. Node.js, Express, FastAPI)
- Familiarity with design systems and component libraries (e.g. Storybook, Tailwind, shadcn/ui)
- Understanding of cloud-based architectures and deployment processes
- Fluency in German and/or English (B2–C1)
- Work permit for Germany and at least one year of work onsite in Germany
Nice to have
- Experience with real-time technologies (WebSockets, streaming)
- Experience with CI/CD, Docker, or platforms like Cloud Run, Vercel, or Kubernetes
- Experience with headless CMS, DAM, or MarTech systems

Team
The team is part of the “Base Tribe”, which consists of four teams that collaborate closely on the mission: to deliver core functionalities that enable seamless access and interaction with our financial products for customers and internal teams:
As a cross-functional team consisting of web, mobile, backend engineers, the RX Tooling team builds, runs and maintains six microservices written in Python. The team owns the KYC (Know Your Customer) domain, which is responsible for the fast, reliable and secure customer legitimation via integration with external KYC vendors.
The team owns the whole lifecycle from design and development through maintenance of the services at runtime. The team is responsible for the 24/7 runtime support of their services.
Your Team’s Stack
- Backend: Python (FastAPI), MySQL, Kafka, AWS
- Web: TypeScript, ReactJS
- Mobile: TypeScript, React Native
This is not a purely managerial role. You will actively contribute to code, guide technical decisions, and foster engineering excellence, while ensuring reliable delivery and 24/7 operational readiness of your team’s services.
Your Responsibilities
- You are responsible for the full E2E delivery cycle, from requirements analysis, and effort estimation through design, implementation, QA, delivery, and support.
- You nurture an inspiring environment with open communication and a culture of trust.
- Champion in writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code across the team’s tech stack - Python - adhering to best practices in software development. Implement new features and maintain existing codebases to ensure high performance and availability.
- You proactively resolve impediments and mitigate risks for your team.
- In case you need to escalate delivery and team risks, you do this in a timely fashion, with a well-articulated solution/mitigation plan.
- You collaborate closely with your team’s Product Manager.
- You facilitate the team’s work on strategy and planning for the delivery.
- With the Product Manager, you drive the OKR process for your team: communication of objectives, Key result definition, team commitment, and pairing OKRs with individual target agreements for your engineers.
- You recruit, hire, and onboard engineers into the team.
- You develop your engineers’ soft- and technical skill sets according to the company’s goals and needs.
- You craft agreements and individual development plans with every team member, aligned to the team's goals.
- You uncover training opportunities as well as provide coaching for your team.
- You recognize high performance and reward accomplishments; you act on low performance in a timely manner.
- You establish and keep strong performance standards for your direct reports.
Your Profile
- You have a university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related fields or equivalent practical experience.
- You bring at least 2 years of leadership/people management experience in a remote setup and have a strong focus on delivery.
- You have hands-on experience in technical platform transitions within a company.
- You have strong hands-on experience (min. 8 years) as a Backend Software Engineer and want to stay one of the main contributors to your team.
- You know how to manage software projects to a successful delivery in a collaborative fashion.
- You have up-to-date, in-depth knowledge of the software development lifecycle in modern Frontend and Backend .
- You need to feel comfortable with Python technologies.
- You are comfortable with architecture discussions.
- You bring experience with AWS Services, K8S, and Event-Driven architectures.
- Prior exposure to the KYC domain is a strong plus.
- Very good communication skills; Fluency in English; German-language skills are a plus but not mandatory.
