Title: Production Supervisor

Schedule:  Any 5 days, either from 3 PM to 11 PM or from 7 AM to 3 PM.

Location: 36 Ave & 8th St, Nisku, AB 

About the Role

We are looking for a full-time Production Supervisor at our Nisku, AB Distribution Center. You will report to the Production Manager and will be responsible for managing production flow and scheduling as well as ensuring product is shipped out on time, including adhering and ensuring to quality standards. The ideal candidate is a curious, analytical, and process driven problem-solver.

What you will be doing:

• Create weekly production documents for receiving, staging, production, and shipping
• Ensure plans for production are executed and that all issues are communicated and tracked.
• Drive customer experience through low error rates on ingredient quality, pick accuracy and ship out time.
• Along with the rest of the Operations team, build and implement production cost techniques that can be applied in production tasks and assembly.
• Monitor production plan, start-times, dismissal times and additional daily activities.
• Maintain high standards of Good Manufacturing Procedures and housekeeping in the production facility to ensure a safe work environment.
• Establish and work within budget as permitted by Production Manager.
• Use designated technology to assure quality/accuracy of shipped product as well as efficient customer service.
• Review customer error calls relevant to production to measure & track quality, accuracy, and pick metrics along with identifying error trends to improve defined metrics
• Conduct daily 5S, process, and facility readiness checks
• Coordinate with ops team, suppliers and contractors to implement corrective & preventive action plan
• Work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations. 
• Use personal protective and safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer. 
• Other duties as assigned

At a minimum, you have: 

• Bachelor’s degree or related management work experience.
• 2-3 years of experience managing production in a fulfillment/distribution center; preferably within the Food & Beverage industry.
• Quantitative and analytical experience – must have proficiency using MS Excel and G-Suite Apps.

About the Role

As the Production Team Lead, you will report to the Production Manager and support the vision for the plant on a high level - building the team and crafting its culture. You’ll be accountable for executing the processes and directives set by the production, manufacturing and sanitation teams. Additionally, you will ensure the team follows all procedures consistently, while driving measurable, quantitative improvements in performance and ensure operations are running safely and efficiently in accordance with all Safety and GMP guidelines.

What you will be doing:

• Work with stakeholders to ensure that raw materials, packaging, and consumables are in place to deliver the production plan on time and in full.
• Monitor delivery of the production plan, resolve work problems by recommending measures to improve productivity on the lines and communicate changes required to the plan with all stakeholders.
• Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of production associates  who are responsible for kitting, processing, packaging, testing, and grading of food products.
• Communicate goals, targets, and information to all associates and coordinate and monitor shifts and assess employee performance to daily production targets. 
• Ensure all production areas and equipment are cleaned and sanitized throughout the day and at the end of each shift.
• Train new associates in job duties for various packaging machinery and informing them about safety procedures and company policies
• Work and communicate with the receiving team and provide plenty of notice for portioning, kitting and boxing needs.
• Maintain proper function of sanitation equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as, assuring the adequate inventories of PPE are kept available at all times.
• Maintain constant communication with the Production and Facilities and Maintenance Manager and other supervisors on progress and current or potential issues regarding production or employees.
• Ensure that our waste streams are disposed of as per instruction and training.
• Follow all company safety guidelines and SOPs.
• Work safely with chemicals being used.
• Support the implementation and management of HACCP, GMP and ensure that company procedures and standards related to Food Safety and Quality are followed and maintained.
• Ensure that production and all equipment  meets health, sanitation, and quality standards set by the company and food industry
• Work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations.
• Use personal protective and safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer.
• Other duties as assigned.

At a minimum, you have: 

• High School Diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience.
• Minimum 1-3  years of experience in a food processing, manufacturing or service industry
• Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
• Has experience with standing for prolonged periods of time including regular bending, twisting and walking
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Calendar,Gmail,Docs,Sheets) and video conferencing (Hangouts, Google Meet)
• Strong and effective leadership skills. Ability to successfully manage 30+ hourly employees.
• Experience with Inventory management and control
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written.
• Strong organizational, analytical, communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
• Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
• Willing and able to work in a refrigerated environment (0°C to 4°C)
• Flexible to work overtime, on weekends, evenings and holidays, as required
• Maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy looking consistently for potential food safety or quality deviations.

What you’ll be doing 

Work at Darkhorse Emergency is diverse and ever-changing. We implement our proprietary software and solve interesting and challenging business problems for a wide variety of fire and emergency clients. Every client is different. The interpretation of their data and unique needs requires strong analytical skills. 

You will work to understand our clients' data and bring it into our proprietary software and provide them with an in-depth analysis that highlights root causes and opportunities. You will work with a team of analysts and take part in the project life cycle from start to finish, including:

• Gathering and interpreting Fire and EMS data. Our data can come from different sources, including client tools and open databases, as well as flat files. Bringing data together in our databases will be a big part of what you do here. 
• Data cleaning and summary analysis. ​Data is rarely what you want it to be. Cleaning and understanding your inputs are the first required step in any quantitative project.
• Implementing our Darkhorse Emergency Platform. Matching clients’ unique data to the fields required for our platform is a crucial step, and requires business context as well as technical savvy. 
• Validating findings and stories in the data. Do your findings pass the smell check? A mix of experience, expertise and creativity is required to validate your findings and distinguish the right signals from data errors. 
• Creating stunning data visualizations. Using tools like QGIS, Jupyter Notebooks or even Excel, you will work with the data to create visually engaging visualizations and maps to clarify our findings.
• Creating succinct presentations and reports. Often times our analyses need to be translated into a report that is readable, actionable, and isn’t going to collect dust on the shelf. We believe less is more, and we take the time to make it succinct.
• Translating client needs into achievable solutions. ​Using your understanding of the industry and the client’s unique challenges, you will provide our clients with actionable recommendations. Understanding our clients means that we can confidently approach their business problems.
• Brainstorming creative approaches. ​Theory and practice never align, so creativity is a must in planning a solution.
• Improving our tools and processes. As a growing company, we must continually search for the better way. We expect you to spend a good portion of your time on improving processes.
