ETCH is a startup commercializing a radically new and efficient decarbonization technology for the simultaneous greenhouse gas-free production of hydrogen and solid carbon from natural gas.  

The (Senior) Industrial Field Technician position at ETCH, INC will support day-to-day operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement of ETCH’s pilot reactor system. This role requires deep industrial experience and will take ownership of complex fabrication, mechanical systems, safety compliance, and procurement activities. In addition to hands-on technical work, this position mentors junior technicians and collaborates closely with engineering staff to advance reactor performance and reliability.

Primary Responsibilities include:

• Operations and System Monitoring
  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot the pilot reactor system and associated equipment, including the computer-based control system used to manage reactor operations.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, equipment manuals, process flow diagrams, and safety procedures.
  • Identify and communicate process inefficiencies, equipment bottlenecks, and deviations affecting system performance or reliability, and drive continuous improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff to design, test, and implement control schemes for reactor operations and auxiliary systems.
• Fabrication and Rigging
  • Lead fabrication activities including structural and pipe welding
  • Perform metal fabrication tasks including cutting, grinding, fitting, and assembly of custom components to support reactor build-out and modifications.
  • Operate machine shop equipment including mills, lathes, drill presses, and angle grinders to fabricate or repair parts as needed.
  • Plan and execute rigging operations for moving and positioning heavy equipment, pressure vessels, and reactor components.
  • Select appropriate rigging hardware (slings, shackles, hoists, forklifts, cranes) and verify load ratings prior to lifts.
  • Ensure rigging activities comply with OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.
• Maintenance and Troubleshooting
  • Safely troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical systems including valves, piping, pumps, motors, heat exchangers, and instrumentation.
  • Lead assembly and disassembly of reactor components; perform site upkeep and ensure the facility is maintained to industrial standards.
  • Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and supervise contractor work to ensure compliance with safety protocols and applicable regulations.
  • Apply structured troubleshooting methodologies to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
• Procurement and Parts Sourcing
  • Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with local and regional suppliers for mechanical parts, raw materials, fabrication supplies, and consumables.
  • Source replacement parts and components for reactor systems, exercising sound engineering judgment on fit, form, and function for direct substitutions.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables; develop and maintain a stocking strategy aligned with equipment criticality.
• Safety and Documentation
  • Ensure safe handling and operation around hazardous materials including natural gas, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, carbon powders, and metal salts.
  • Apply working knowledge of relevant industrial standards and regulations (OSHA, ASME, NFPA, EPA, DOT) to equipment operation, maintenance, and site activities.
  • Support safety and environmental compliance efforts by inspecting equipment and processes for adherence to applicable regulations.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with industrial chemical plants
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial technician experience; 10+ years preferred
• Demonstrated welding proficiency (MIG, TIG, and/or stick); AWS certification or equivalent a strong plus.
• Experience with machining operations (lathe, mill, drill press) and general metal fabrication.
• Working knowledge of industrial rigging practices and safe lift planning.
• Experience with procurement activities: sourcing parts, working with suppliers, and managing spare parts inventory.
• Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems including valves, pumps, motors, instrumentation, and piping.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, fabrication drawings, and equipment manuals.
• Familiarity with industrial safety standards and regulations (OSHA, ASME, NFPA, LOTO, confined space, etc.).
• Strong communication skills and proficiency with computer programs (Microsoft Office Suite).
• Must be able to work safely in industrial environments (temperature, humidity, noise, confined spaces, outdoor conditions).

The (Senior) Industrial Field Technician receives direction from Technical Operations Lead to guide daily duties. An ability to work independently as well as in a team environment toward timely execution of goals is required. This position will also require a flexible work schedule including the occasional third shift.

What you'll do

• Own preparation logistics for regular cadence meetings, including developing presentations, pulling materials, and managing agenda inputs
• Support town hall preparation by coordinating slides, timing, and communication logistics
• Coordinate with the VP of Strategic Initiatives and commercial leadership on cross-functional meeting preparation
• Manage distribution lists and communication infrastructure for the Operations and Commercial leadership teams
• Lead the Annual Meeting prep calendar by coordinating calls, materials, and communications across contributing stakeholders
• Represent the CCO's office in weekly company-wide syncs to ensure operations inputs are captured and actioned
• Manage recurring commission audit processes in Salesforce and coordinate with SVP-level leaders on data accuracy
• Lead monthly operational coordination calls to drive readiness among market leads and commercial stakeholders
• Oversee vendor relationships with strategic partners and manage the employee recognition program for the operations team
• Default to AI tools for drafting communications, managing inbox triage, and summarizing meeting outputs to improve office workflows

What we're looking for

• 6+ years of experience in a strategic program management, consulting, operations coordination, or similar role
• Exhibit exceptional organizational skills with a strong bias for action and the ability to close loops independently
• Demonstrate high EQ and professional maturity when interacting with C-suite leaders, investors, and external partners
• Navigate ambiguity comfortably and make sound judgment calls without complete information
• Maintain strict discretion with confidential information regarding senior leadership
• Operate with technical proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
• Use AI productivity tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini to improve executive support workflows
• Identify opportunities to pilot and implement new AI tools to reduce manual overhead
• Act as a reliable point of contact for ELT assistants to ensure the scheduling ecosystem runs smoothly
• Ability to represent the CCO's office independently to ensure governance processes run on time

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end project management for CCO-level strategic initiatives from scoping through performance review
• Serve as the accountable, on-site leader for complex parking builds, big installs, and launches where a senior Metropolis presence is required
• Lead cross-functional alignment across Finance, Product, Operations, and Commercial stakeholders to secure multi-department buy-in
• Develop project charters, milestone frameworks, and accountability structures calibrated to project complexity
• Partner with Central Operations to oversee major property onboardings and serve as the expert escalation point for strategic parking and asset management decisions
• Manage the project infrastructure for large-scale portfolio onboardings to ensure readiness standards are met
• Drive the customer reporting improvement initiative across departments to deliver high-quality client-facing outputs
• Serve as the CCO's proxy on workstreams requiring senior presence and executive sponsorship
• Maintain the Operations OKR framework and data guide to ensure alignment with field-level performance
• Identify emerging strategic needs and proactively scope new initiatives before they become urgent

What we're looking for

• 12+ years of progressive experience in operations, strategy, or project management inside the parking industry
• Extensive experience with big installs, asset management, and field-level leadership
• Demonstrated track record of owning complex, cross-functional projects from initiation through delivery within the parking or mobility sector
• Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders such as Finance, Product, and Commercial leaders to drive decisions
• High accountability orientation with a focus on owning outcomes rather than tasks
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Operate as an AI-native leader by using AI tools to synthesize information, draft communications, and summarize data
• Experience implementing AI-driven approaches to automate reporting workflows and surface risks before they escalate
• Ability to proactively pilot and validate new AI tools to improve project outcomes and team efficiency
• Proven use of AI tools as a force multiplier for project status synthesis and cross-functional briefing preparation

• Specific experience in real estate or transportation technology industries
• Military or other high-accountability leadership backgrounds
