We’re searching for a Project Engineer. As a Project Engineer within the Hardware-Operations’ organization, you will lead the introduction of our autonomous vehicle at a contract upfitter during a critical period of rapid production ramp. This multidisciplinary role requires a self-sufficient professional capable of integrating mechanical and electromechanical systems into a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will serve as a vital technical bridge, frequently coordinating with Technical Program Management, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, and Production teams, both internally and externally, to ensure design intent is understood and operationally executed at scale.
This role is based on-site in Livonia (Detroit Metro) with occasional travel to Pittsburgh.
In this role you will
- Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results
- Monitor and enforce timelines, quality, and output ensuring that supplier facilities and deliverables are meeting Aurora's timelines, expectations, and requirements
- Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing; make progress reports and present findings.
- Guide supplier-related projects relative to products, policies, and continuous improvement
- Conduct multidisciplinary rapid problem-solving activities and propose solutions to both prototype and production manufacturing challenges, such as Design for Excellence (DfX) input, e.g., Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DfMA), Design for Service/Repair/Maintenance (DfS/R/M)
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 3 years of prior relevant experience;
- Or, Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
- Or, 12 years of prior relevant experience in lieu of a degree
Desirable qualifications
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence and coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and inside stakeholders and engineers
- Experience with IATF 16949:2016 Automotive Quality Management Systems or similar, e.g., AS9100D:2016; ISO 13485:2016; ISO 9001:2015
- Green Belt certification or demonstrated experience using Lean / Six Sigma tools and similar methodologies, e.g., DMAIC, 8D, PDCA, QRQC, 4A.
- Experience interpreting technical requirements
- Experience leading Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA)
- Experience with advanced CAD, PLM, ERP, and MES software suites
The base salary range for this position is $112,000-$180,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Shinola is seeking a Watch Assembly Operator to join our watch manufacturing team. In this highly specialized role, you will assemble precision watch components and movements in a clean-room production environment, helping bring Shinola’s handcrafted timepieces to life.
This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in precision manufacturing environments, enjoy working with small components, and take pride in producing high-quality products with meticulous attention to detail.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Watch Assembly
- Assemble Shinola watch heads across multiple models, including mechanical and quartz movements, following detailed production procedures.
- Handle and assemble small, delicate components with a high degree of accuracy and care.
- Use specialized tools and instruments to complete assembly steps according to standard operating procedures.
Quality & Precision
- Maintain a high standard of quality and craftsmanship in all assembly work.
- Make quick and accurate troubleshooting decisions when components or assemblies require adjustment.
- Perform tasks requiring strong hand-eye coordination and precision.
Production & Process Adherence
- Follow structured production sequences and documented assembly procedures.
- Maintain focus on repetitive tasks over extended periods while ensuring consistent quality.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a clean, organized workstation.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required protective equipment on the manufacturing floor.
- Comply with clean-room requirements including proper attire and workspace standards.
WHAT YOU BRING
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and excellent hand-eye coordination
- Ability to follow technical instructions and standardized procedures
- Ability to work with small tools and delicate components
- Ability to sit for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks
- 20/20 vision (corrected vision acceptable) and ability to see fine details at close range
- Successful completion of background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in electrical assembly, mechanical assembly, or precision manufacturing
- Experience working in clean-room or light manufacturing environments
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in a clean-room watch manufacturing environment designed to protect product quality and precision.
- Operators wear company-provided smocks, caps, and antistatic footwear while in the assembly area.
- The role requires extended sitting and repetitive hand movements while assembling small components.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move materials up to 50 lbs.

About the role
You’ll play a key role in bridging the gap between product design and scalable production. You will lead the manufacturing process for autonomy hardware integration into trucks, troubleshoot on-site build issues, and drive quality assurance initiatives to ensure high reliability and production efficiency. This is a hands-on, on-site role that requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and external manufacturing partners.
What you'll do
- Lead the end-to-end manufacturing process for integrating autonomy hardware into trucks.
- Develop and maintain assembly procedures, inspection checklists, and documentation to ensure build consistency and traceability.
- Collaborate closely with the design, integration, and production teams to rapidly resolve build issues and implement corrective actions.
- Define and implement QA processes including inspection plans, failure analysis protocols, and defect tracking.
- Analyze quality data and product metrics to identify trends, systemic issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Lead build events and validation activities, including first article inspections and in-process audits.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and QA processes to increase reliability and throughput.
- Serve as a key technical resource at the manufacturing site, escalating issues and coordinating solutions with internal engineering teams.
- Collaborate with Contract Manufacturer to establish processes
- Perform various tests and inspections on raw materials, parts and finished trucks to verify that specified processes are met
- Ensure and adhere to industry standards, regulations, and company policies
What we're looking for
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, or related roles in automotive, aerospace, or hardware tech industries.
- Strong hands-on experience with electromechanical systems, harness routing, sensor installation, and system-level testing.
- Familiarity with manufacturing process control, quality standards, and root cause analysis tools
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented mindset with a bias for action.
- Comfortable working on-site in a dynamic and collaborative production environment.
- Proficiency with QA and documentation tools (e.g., PLM systems, spreadsheets, issue trackers like JIRA).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.
