About the Role:
We're looking for an experienced engineer with deep expertise in distributed data systems to shape the future of Gusto's storage layer. You'll manage complex migrations, architect high-scale systems, and set standards for automation, resiliency, and security. This is a high-impact role where you'll implement distributed database solutions that enable Gusto's continued growth and scale.
About the Team:
The Datastores Infrastructure Engineering team designs, builds, and operates the data platforms that power Gusto's product: MySQL, Postgres, Redis, Kafka, and S3. We ensure our infrastructure is consistent, reliable, and ready to support Gusto's growing needs. As we transition to self-hosted distributed databases, the team is focused on reducing blast radius, improving operational resilience, and enabling sustainable scale.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Architect, deploy, and own the full lifecycle of distributed database systems (TiDB) on Kubernetes at scale, ensuring high availability, data consistency, and operational excellence
- Coordinate complex, zero-downtime migrations from monolithic to distributed architectures, including vertical sharding to isolate Product Services
- Define and drive efficiency improvements across the storage infrastructure through query optimization, caching strategies, and workload management
- Define standards and build reliable automation to ensure data consistency, integrity, and security across distributed systems
- Continuously improve operational excellence by reducing on-call burden through sustainable, long-term solutions
- Partner with product engineering teams and technical collaborators to enable rapid and reliable product development
- Mentor engineers across the Datastores Infrastructure team on best practices for operating complex, self-hosted distributed systems, actively developing our collective operational expertise
Here’s what we're looking for:
- 12+ years of software engineering experience building and scaling large-scale infrastructure systems
- Hands-on experience building and operating distributed databases on Kubernetes (strongly preferred: TiDB; alternatively: CockroachDB, Vitess, Citus, or similar solutions)
- Deep expertise in distributed data systems including horizontal sharding, partitioning strategies, and distributed transaction management
- Proven experience coordinating complex, zero-downtime migrations affecting production systems at scale
- 5+ years of AWS experience with RDS, Aurora, caching systems (Redis/ValKey), streaming platforms (Kafka), and infrastructure optimization at scale
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify technical complexity and collaborate on technical direction across teams
- Curiosity and ability to operate in an AI-native environment, leveraging AI tooling to enhance infrastructure operations, driving improvements in query optimization, performance evaluation, and infrastructure automation
- Bonus: Experience with service extraction and vertical sharding from monolithic architectures
- Bonus: Experience working with Ruby on Rails or similar MVC frameworks at scale
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $200,000-$230,000 /yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $230,000-$270,000 /yr for San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

We are looking for a Solutions Architect with expertise in cloud infrastructure to support the success and retention of DigitalOcean's high-value customers. Reporting to the Manager of Solutions Architecture, you will work directly with Customer Success, Sales, and Support functions to retain and grow DigitalOcean’s largest and fastest growing customers. You will be the technical subject matter expert on DigitalOcean’s portfolio, advising on best practices and guiding customers to the optimal solution to meet their business objectives. You will work closely with other functions within DigitalOcean such as Product, Engineering, and Operations to ensure the needs and insights from the local markets are funneled appropriately back into DigitalOcean's products and services.

What You Will Be Doing:

- Offer personalized onboarding assistance and guide customers through their cloud journey, resolving technical blockers.

- Implement and oversee infrastructure management best practices to secure and optimize cloud resources.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and performance improvement, helping customers make data-driven cloud optimization decisions.
- Conduct technical consultation sessions, workshops, and training for customers to empower them in managing cloud infrastructure.
- Partner with Growth Account Managers and Customer Success Managers to create success plans that ensure customer retention, expansion, and satisfaction.

onX is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with a passion for building scalable platform Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems. Your focus will be on designing, developing, and scaling secure authentication, authorization, and user management services that are foundational to our platform. You will play a key role in evolving our IAM platform and delivering seamless cross-platform authentication across iOS, Android, and web.
You will be part of our Core Services team that enables product teams to build faster and more securely by providing core infrastructure, services, and patterns. This is a great opportunity to help shape the future of how users securely access and interact with onX's suite of outdoor technology products.
This position reports to the Director of Engineering, Core Services.
TECHNOLOGIES WE USE
Our backend engineers primarily work in Go running in Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform. The IAM team works extensively with identity platforms (Ory Kratos, Hydra, Oathkeeper), distributed databases (CockroachDB), and OAuth 2.0/session management patterns. Understanding mobile authentication tradeoffs (WebView vs. browser-based auth, token-based patterns) is particularly relevant for this role.
As an onX Senior Backend Engineer, your day to day responsibilities would look like:
(Essential Job Duties)
- Build scalable, secure IAM services that enable new features and products across the onX suite of apps
- Design and implement backend systems focusing on observability, fault-tolerance, security, and high performance
- Drive architectural decisions related to Identity and Access Management, ensuring alignment with and advancing our broader platform strategy
- Define and implement SLIs/SLOs for IAM services; drive reliability engineering practices including incident response and performance optimization
- Write thorough unit, integration, and acceptance tests to ensure high service quality and maintainability
- Document APIs, service architectures, and technical decisions for internal stakeholders and external partners as needed
- Collaborate closely with fellow engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders through design reviews, paired programming, and cross-functional planning sessions
- Leverage and extend existing onX services and platform patterns to drive consistency and reduce duplication
- Proactively improve system monitoring, alerting, diagnostics, and operational readiness of IAM-related services
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure backend services remain highly available and reliable
- Mentor and share knowledge with engineers on your team
- Lead by example and embody onX's company values, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration
LOCATION
onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub".
- Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.
- Basecamps: Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.
- Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
- Connection Hubs: Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.
- Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- B.S., M.S., or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field
- Eight or more years of professional software development experience, with API development as a primary focus for at least three of those years
- Strong Go/Golang backend development experience with RESTful API design
- Experience building and debugging distributed, scalable, highly available microservices architecture
- Solid understanding of identity systems: OAuth 2.0, session management, bearer token authentication, SSO integrations
- Experience with distributed databases (CockroachDB or similar PostgreSQL-compatible distributed systems) and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Excellence in designing and developing modern APIs and scalable systems that ensure reliability and extensibility
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform
- Strong computer science foundation
- Security-first mindset -- you think about threat models, secure defaults, and defense in depth as part of your design process
- You evaluate technologies and solutions based on merit, stability, performance, and the ability to debug
- Ability to write maintainable, well-tested code that's easy for others to understand
- A strong sense of ownership of your work
- Advocacy for customers -- both internal colleagues and end users -- and their experience

Preferred Qualifications
Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
- Experience with identity platforms such as Ory Kratos, Auth0, Cognito, or similar
- Experience with the Ory Stack, especially Hydra, Kratos, and Oathkeeper
- Experience with Authzed SpiceDB, Google Zanzibar, or AWS Cedar for fine-grained authorization
- Understanding of mobile authentication patterns: WebView vs. browser auth tradeoffs, token-based flows across iOS/Android/web
- Reliability engineering experience: SLI/SLO implementation, incident response, performance optimization
- SOC2 compliance experience or familiarity with security audit frameworks
- Experience with Elixir or the Phoenix Framework
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
- Experience working with a distributed team
COMPENSATION
onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $146,000 to $182,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.

We’re looking for a Privacy Analyst to join our global SaaS company and growing legal team. This non-attorney role will report directly to the Data Protection Officer and will serve in a leading privacy role in the organization. They will be responsible for the company’s global data protection compliance program and there is potential for huge impact across our rapidly-growing global company. The successful candidate will possess strong technical acumen given the strategic nature of the role, have a right-sized risk calculus, and fluid communication skills.
A risk-adjusted privacy analyst with a technical, process, and operations-orientation to help educate and build the business as Fivetran scales. As a member of the Legal team and working with the Legal team to build and scale a world-class legal organization, you will have primary responsibility for building, maintaining and improving the global privacy and data protection compliance programs at Fivetran.
This will include staying informed of peer company best practices and relevant global data protection developments, coordinating with our privacy attorneys to gauge applicability to the company's activities and objectives and advising the business on how to promote the company's goals while complying with applicable regulations. Your expertise will drive creative, customer-focused, practical and proactive guidance.

As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer at Checkr, you will be primarily responsible for managing cloud database and data storage infrastructure, backup policies and processes, data lifecycle management, and performance tuning and troubleshooting across a breadth of database platforms. Beyond this, you will help our software teams maximize their understanding and efficient use of our database systems.
What a typical week may look like at Checkr:
- Design and recommend database architectures that address resiliency, durability, and high availability concerns
- Provision and administer database and database-adjacent cloud resources using Infrastructure as Code
- Maintain and troubleshoot database systems in production, staging, and sandbox environments
- Optimize database performance at the query, schema, and instance levels
- Embrace and extend BCDR and data protection practices across availability zones, accounts, and providers
- Work closely with the Infrastructure team to align on infrastructure best practices
- Implement security best practices for data stores
- Automate common database tasks to reduce manual toil
- Work closely with the SRE team and improve observability (alerting, metrics, monitoring) of the database schema and infrastructure
- Take part in incident response, diagnosis, and follow-up on system outages or alerts across Checkr’s customer-serving infrastructure
What you bring:
- 5+ years of experience working with relational database concepts, storage systems, and architectures
