The Role
As a Product Engineer at Counterpart, you own problems and drive outcomes. You iron out requirements with stakeholders, partners, and customers. You leverage AI for implementation. You verify the end-to-end result. You iterate until you move the needle.
You run projects with other Product Engineers and AI agents. You know when to delegate to a human, when to delegate to an agent, and when to do it yourself.
YOU WILL
Own the Problem
- Take accountability for the outcome.
- Talk directly to your users, stakeholders, and peers to discover the problem.
- Translate business intents into functional requirements that engineers and agents can build against. Determine where human judgment is non-negotiable and where AI can augment or act autonomously.
- Own the non-functional technical requirements. Specify the quality bar: performance, scalability, reliability, security, maintainability.
Build with AI
- Write production-quality code across the stack: Python, Django, AWS, React, and PostgreSQL. You are not afraid of any layer.
- Direct agents and review their output with domain depth. Catch what they miss across the functional and non-functional bar: correctness, edge cases, performance, security, testability, readability.
- Evaluate and improve agent output regularly. Track failure modes. Refine the prompts and patterns that lift the quality ceiling over time.
- Run projects that span other Product Engineers and agents. Coordinate work, manage dependencies, and keep things moving without micromanaging.
- Contribute to architectural decisions. Bring options and alternatives, not objections. Know when the elegant solution is the wrong call for a startup moving fast.
- Contribute to and manage the context harness as you build and deliver.
Verify and Iterate
- Surface delivery risks early. Bring solutions, not just problems. Keep your stakeholders informed without turning every risk into a meeting.
- Verify the end-to-end result yourself. Confirm the system does what the requirements say, and that the requirements were right.
- Drive adoption of what you ship. Documentation, enablement, and usage monitoring are part of the job.
- Monitor your services in production. Own the signal. Debug and fix what breaks.
- Participate in support rotations. When users run into issues with what you shipped, you investigate and fix them.
- Iterate until you move the needle. Shipping is not the finish line. Outcome is.
Raise the Bar
- Mentor engineers around you. Give direct, useful feedback. Leave things better than you found them.
- Make deliberate calls on technical debt: when to accumulate it, when to pay it down, when to refactor. Translate trade-offs into language that business leaders can act on.
- Operate to the engineering standards for quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
YOU HAVE
- 10+ years building production web applications across the full stack. The years are the floor, not the bar. What matters is whether you have actually done this: owned a problem end-to-end, written the spec, built the thing, coordinated the work, and shipped it without someone else holding the thread.
- Demonstrated experience gathering requirements directly. You have interviewed users, customers, and partner teams, and turned ambiguous intent into specs that engineers and agents can build against.
- Demonstrated experience owning both functional and non-functional requirements. You have defined what a system must do and held the line on how well it must do it.
- A track record of owning a domain or initiative without close supervision. You have navigated ambiguity, made judgment calls, and been accountable for the outcome.
- Extreme ownership and a bias for action. You do not sit and wait. You chase stakeholders, customers, and answers when you need them.
- Experience coordinating across engineers and AI agents on a shared initiative. You have managed the work without holding a formal management title.
- Strong technical judgment and the depth to catch what AI-generated code gets wrong: not syntax, but correctness, architecture, intent.
- Proficiency with Python and Django. Working knowledge of TypeScript, React, and PostgreSQL.
- Proficiency in developing with AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, similar) and the drive to stay ahead of how AI development practices are evolving.
- Domain curiosity. You learn the business context your work supports, not just the systems. You understand why the problem matters, not just how to solve it.
- The ability to communicate clearly across engineering, product, and business, translating technical complexity without losing meaning.
- Low ego and high Emotional Quotient (EQ). You influence without authority, take feedback well, and leave your ego out of technical decisions.
- Experience working with distributed, remote teams.
HOW THIS ROLE WORKS
Product Engineering exists to collapse the distance between a problem and a working solution. You own a problem or part of a vision. You shape it with stakeholders. You build it with AI. You verify it end-to-end. You iterate until the metric moves.
You work within the Context Architecture, a shared system of documentation, design patterns, and domain knowledge that gives you the technical context to make autonomous decisions at every step.
This is not a role for engineers who need to be told how. It is a role for engineers who can take a problem, fill in the gaps with good judgment, and ship something that works.

Our estimated pay range for this role is USD $90,000 - $110,000 annually. Contractor compensation is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, market data, location, internal equitability, and experience.

We are seeking a AWS Cloud / DevOps / Platform Engineer who can operate with a high degree of ownership and independence while contributing to the design, build, and operation of scalable AWS environments.
This role is suited for early-career engineers who already have hands-on AWS experience and are ready to take on more responsibility in managing cloud infrastructure end-to-end. You will partner with DevOps, Security, and Application teams, while also being trusted to drive tasks independently—from implementation through troubleshooting and optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform) with minimal supervision
- Independently manage and optimize AWS networking components, including:
- VPCs, subnets, and route tables
- Client VPN and site-to-site VPN
- Internet Gateways and NAT Gateways
- Security Groups and Network ACLs
- VPC Peering, Transit Gateway, and PrivateLink
- Support and troubleshoot hybrid and multi-account AWS environments
- Own configuration and resolution of VPN, Direct Connect, and routing issues
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines, while independently executing assigned automation tasks
- Monitor cloud resources and proactively optimize for performance, cost, and availability
- Lead initial troubleshooting for incidents and contribute to root cause analysis

About the Role:
We are seeking a technically strong, hands-on Senior Database Reliability Engineer to help design, build, and scale the database platform used across Sezzle’s applications.
This is not a traditional DBA role. This role is for an engineer who can combine deep database knowledge with software engineering, infrastructure engineering, and platform thinking. You will help build the systems, libraries, automation, standards, and guardrails that make database usage across Sezzle reliable, secure, scalable, and easy for developers to adopt correctly.
As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for improving how Sezzle applications connect to, migrate, operate, observe, and scale their databases. You will work across application teams, infrastructure, security, and engineering leadership to define patterns that improve database reliability by design — not just by operational response.
You should be comfortable owning problems end-to-end: understanding application behavior, reading code, reviewing database access patterns, building shared tooling, improving connection management, designing migration safety checks, analyzing production performance, and helping developers use databases in safer and more scalable ways.
You should consider yourself a DOer to be a good fit for this role. We are looking for someone who can ship production-quality engineering work, not just advise from the sidelines. With AI tooling and automation, you should be a force multiplier for database reliability, developer productivity, and operational excellence across Sezzle.
Compensation:
For this senior development role, with 6+ years of experience, the compensation range is $5,000 - $9,500 USD per month. This range acknowledges the extensive expertise, leadership capabilities, and significant contributions expected at this level, offering a competitive salary to reflect the value of advanced skills and experience.
What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and maintain shared database platform components used by Sezzle applications, such as database connection packages, database client libraries, migration tooling, safety checks, query standards, and developer-facing abstractions.
- Establish reliable, scalable patterns for how Sezzle services connect to and interact with relational databases across production, staging, and development environments.
- Partner with backend engineering teams to improve database usage in application code, including connection lifecycle, transaction handling, retries, timeouts, pooling, query patterns, and migration workflows.
- Build automation and internal tooling that makes database operations safer, more repeatable, and less dependent on manual intervention.
- Define and enforce engineering standards for database access, schema design, migrations, indexing, query performance, connection management, and operational readiness.
- Architect and improve database infrastructure across AWS RDS/Aurora MySQL, PostgreSQL, RDS Proxy, read replicas, backups, failover, parameter groups, monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Lead database reliability initiatives that reduce operational risk, improve performance, and help Sezzle scale safely.
- Review application designs and database changes early in the development lifecycle to ensure reliability, scalability, maintainability, and security are built in from the start.
- Build guardrails for database migrations, including automated checks, rollback expectations, schema review workflows, migration observability, and production safety controls.
- Improve developer self-service for database provisioning, access, schema management, local development, testing, and observability.
- Investigate production database issues by combining application telemetry, database metrics, logs, query plans, traces, and cloud infrastructure data.
- Identify and fix systemic database problems, not just symptoms — including bad access patterns, unsafe migrations, inefficient queries, connection storms, lock contention, replication lag, and capacity bottlenecks.
- Create and maintain high-signal dashboards, alerts, SLOs, SLIs, runbooks, and operational readiness checks for database-backed services.
- Drive improvements in database backup validation, restore testing, disaster recovery, failover readiness, and business continuity.
- Work with security and compliance teams to improve database access controls, auditability, encryption, secrets management, least privilege, and PCI/SOC 2 aligned controls.
- Mentor engineers on database design, query performance, safe migrations, operational readiness, and production debugging.
- Use automation and AI tooling where appropriate to improve migration review, query analysis, incident investigation, documentation, and developer productivity.
What We look for:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering, infrastructure engineering, database engineering, SRE, or platform engineering experience.
- Strong software engineering ability in at least one production programming language such as Go, Python, or TypeScript.
- Proven ability to build production-quality internal tools, libraries, frameworks, services, or platform components used by other engineers.
- Deep hands-on experience with relational databases, especially MySQL and/or PostgreSQL, in high-availability production environments.
- Strong understanding of how application code interacts with databases, including connection pooling, transactions, isolation levels, retries, timeouts, deadlocks, locking, migrations, and query execution.
- Experience designing or improving shared database access patterns, internal database packages, ORM wrappers, migration frameworks, or developer-facing database tooling.
- Hands-on experience with AWS RDS/Aurora, including provisioning, upgrades, replicas, backups, failover, monitoring, parameter tuning, and production troubleshooting.
- Experience with database connection management technologies such as RDS Proxy, PgBouncer, ProxySQL, or application-level pooling.
- Strong ability to analyze database performance using query plans, indexes, slow query logs, wait events, locks, metrics, and application traces.
- Experience designing safe database migration processes for production systems.
- Strong understanding of observability for database-backed applications, including metrics, logs, traces, SLOs, alerting, and incident response.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD systems such as Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, Helm, or similar tooling.
- Ability to influence engineering teams through clear design reviews, documentation, technical standards, and practical implementation.
- Ability to operate independently, identify high-impact problems, propose pragmatic solutions, and drive them to completion.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience building platform capabilities for a microservices environment.
- Experience with Golang application development and database access patterns.
- Experience creating database libraries, SDKs, service templates, migration frameworks, or paved-road developer tooling.
- Experience improving database reliability across many services or teams, not just one application.
- Experience with fintech, payments, banking, e-commerce, or other high-volume transactional systems.
- Experience with compliance-sensitive environments such as PCI DSS, SOC 2, or SOX.
- Experience with database access governance, audit logging, secrets management, encryption, IAM authentication, and least-privilege access models.
- Experience with large-scale operational automation for provisioning, patching, failover testing, backup validation, access management, or schema review.
- Experience with distributed systems patterns such as transactional outbox, event-driven architecture, idempotency, queues, eventual consistency, and data consistency tradeoffs.
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, Performance Insights, OpenTelemetry, or New Relic.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch or other supporting data stores.
- Familiarity with AI developer tooling such as Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Codex, Cursor, and using it to be a more productive engineer.

About the Role:

Sezzle is growing; our data generation and consumption is growing with us at an increasing scale. Data is extremely valuable, and we want to empower the business, the engineers, and the rest of the organization to be able to read, write, and analyze large volumes of it quickly and efficiently.
Sezzle is a heavy consumer of MySQL, Postgres, and Redshift, leveraging AWS tooling with Aurora RDS and DMS. We use DBT-based transformations and similar toolkits to populate a rapidly growing data lake that supports multiple data warehouses. It’s scaled well with us so far, and we’re looking to continue improving it, but we also want to step into new tooling and technologies.
What you’ll do:
- End to end ownership of our database and data warehousing infrastructure, its KPIs and its SLAs, including MySQL, Postgres, CDC capture, and Redshift.
- Lead optimizations in database and query performance.
- Build and maintain tooling to help manage and upgrade our data infrastructure, continually improving with migrations and optimizations.
- Partner with Development to ensure we ship solid queries against a battle-tested schema to meet the needs of our products and business.
- Help Sezzle evolve our data systems beyond the current scale and stack with whatever tooling is necessary to handle processing high volumes of writes and events while performing complex ETL.

The Marketing Analyst - Comms, will sit at the intersection of data, CRM strategy, and AI-driven efficiency. We’re looking for an execution-oriented person who owns their work from end-to-end. You'll dive into the details of how our campaigns operate across email, push, SMS, and in-app channels, spot friction and inefficiency, and design smarter ways forward. You'll spend most of your time inside Braze, Sezzle's primary consumer-focused CRM and marketing automation platform, building and analyzing campaigns across email, push, SMS, and in-app channels. You'll dig into performance data to identify what's working, surface gaps in our consumer journeys, and develop new comms to fill them. You'll also look for every opportunity to apply AI tools to make the team's output faster, sharper, and more scalable.
This isn't a role where you wait for assignments. We want someone who can look at a set of data, identify the opportunity, and start building toward it then communicate what they found and why it matters to the team around them.
What You'll Do:

Build, launch, and iterate on campaigns and canvases in Braze across email, push, SMS, and in-app channels.

Build out a cloud‑native team that owns the entire software delivery life cycle on Amazon Web Services. We are seeking a Senior AWS Cloud / DevOps / Platform Engineer who operates with a high level of autonomy and technical leadership to design, build, and operate scalable, secure AWS environments.
This role is ideal for experienced engineers who not only have deep hands-on AWS expertise, but can also independently drive architecture decisions, lead implementations end-to-end, and proactively identify improvements across cloud infrastructure, networking, and automation.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, deployment, and ongoing optimization of AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform)
- Own AWS networking architecture and implementation, including:
- VPC design, subnet strategy, and routing
- Client VPN and site-to-site VPN
- Internet Gateways, NAT Gateways
- Security Groups and Network ACLs

- Architect and support hybrid and multi-account AWS environments at scale
- Independently diagnose and resolve complex networking issues, including VPN, Direct Connect, and routing challenges
- Drive CI/CD and infrastructure automation initiatives in collaboration with DevOps teams
- Proactively monitor and optimize cloud environments for performance, cost, scalability, and availability
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and implementation of preventive measures
- Ensure adherence to AWS security best practices and compliance standards

Required Skills & Experience
- 5–8+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering
- Strong hands-on expertise with AWS services, including:
- EC2, VPC, IAM, ALB/NLB, Route 53
- S3, RDS, CloudWatch
- Advanced networking knowledge, including:
- TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S
- CIDR design, subnetting, and routing strategies

Responsibilities Will Include:
- Engage directly with end users to understand how they consume data, and design solutions that serve their needs.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and real-time processing, including high-frequency time-series ingestion.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Build out a cloud‑native team that owns the entire software delivery life cycle on Amazon Web Services. You will combine deep Kubernetes expertise with Python and shell scripting to automate, monitor, and continuously improve the Linqia platform while driving FinOps practices to keep our cloud footprint efficient. Work in a GitOps culture where every change is delivered through pull requests and rolled out by automated pipelines.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Design, maintain, and evolve our AWS account structure, VPC networking, IAM policies, security boundaries, and cost‑management controls using Terraform and the AWS console
- Maintain secure networking layers with AWS load balancers, ingress controllers, service‑mesh policies, network policies, and zero‑trust principles
- Operate and harden production‑grade Kubernetes clusters on AWS EKS, including upgrades, service mesh, policy management, and multi‑cluster architectures driven by Argo CD
- Build reusable infrastructure‑as‑code modules with Terraform that provision cloud resources in minutes while enforcing tagging standards and least‑privilege access
- Create self‑service CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins and GitHub Actions for fast, safe releases with automated testing and promotion across environments
- Deliver real‑time observability with Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, and OpenTelemetry, and use these tools to assist in solving production bugs and issues
- Administer and maintain purpose-built Linux VMs via configuration management tools like Puppet, Ansible, or Chef
- Deploy, scale, and maintain databases on AWS (Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, OpenSearch, etc.), maintaining high database performance/uptime, optimizing tables and datasets, and ensuring disaster recovery protocols are in place.

Qualifications:
- Experience with Javascript and Typescript.
- Experience with a core Object-Oriented Programming language like Java/C++/C#
- Familiarity with backend services & technologies is a plus.
- Experience with deployment systems (e.g. GitHub Actions, AWS CodeDeploy).
- Familiarity with AWS Services (e.g. RDS, Lambda, EC2, et cetera).
- Familiarity with the Linux operating system and command-line tools.
- Understanding of OO design, algorithms, and data structures.
- Aptitude to quickly learn new languages and technologies as necessary.
- Experience developing websites that are visited by thousands of visitors daily.
- Experience with enhancing SEO performance.
- Experienced with AI-native tools that enhance productivity and speed (e.g., Cursor, Make, Supabase, Netlify, Claude Code, n8n, Firecrawl, ChatGPT, Grok, Bolt, Vercel, etc).

- Computer Science or related degree preferred.

- Be a part of your team’s on-call rotation; we all own our code end-to-end from development to deployment to operations.
