Senior Technical Enablement Architect

About the opportunity

The Customer Insights & Adoption (CIA) team is hiring a senior architect to lead internal technical enablement across Contentful’s product portfolio and recommended ways of building. You will serve as a deeply technical, highly cross-functional subject matter expert who empowers internal teams, customers, and partners to adopt Contentful with confidence and consistency. You’ll apply your industry experience, consultative leadership, and passion for teaching to build scalable programs and toolkits that drive a shared understanding of what good looks like, inform product innovation, and guide business strategy.

What to expect?

Own and evolve internal technical enablement on Contentful product features, implementation patterns, and best practices for the Customer Experience organization (e.g. Customer Success Management, Professional Services, Learning Services, Customer Support Engineering) and cross-functional teams (e.g. Sales Engineering, Partnerships)
Serve as a company-wide Contentful subject matter expert by engaging closely with internal teams to develop prescriptive implementation guidance and synthesize it into workshops, enablement materials, tools, examples and other resources
Establish a strategic, scalable technical enablement practice that supports continuous education, centralized knowledge sharing, and consistent understanding across teams, customers, and solution partners
Collaborate with Product, Product Marketing and Demo teams throughout the product development lifecycle to evaluate new features, provide actionable feedback, and influence decisions as a trusted advisor
Coordinate closely with Professional Services to translate customer implementation insights into impactful enablement content; coordinate with Learning Services and Developer Experience to ensure messaging and guidance are aligned across courses, training, and documentation
Create, curate, and maintain a library of enablement materials including feature usage guidance, prescriptive patterns, use cases, discovery questions, and architectural recommendations
Develop and deliver internal workshops and technical training that effectively support both technical and non-technical audiences; model excellent virtual facilitation and learner engagement techniques
Contribute to and help lead strategic enablement initiatives, such as starter kits, maturity models, trial environments, and other cross-team projects that strengthen our internal, customer, and partner ecosystem
Support Customer Success Managers and Partner Managers as a technical advisor during select customer and partner engagements, providing clarity on architecture, implementation decisions, and best practice adoption

What do you need to be successful?

6+ years of experience in solutions architecture, technical consulting or a similar technical role, ideally in a digital experience platform environment or solution services agency
Deep familiarity with content management systems, composable architecture, and modern web development patterns (e.g. headless CMS, API-first)
Practitioner-level code proficiency, including comfort working with modern web frameworks (e.g. React, Next.js), APIs, SDKs, and developer tooling, with the ability to critically evaluate implementation approaches
Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical audiences, including in writing, workshops, and live facilitation
Strong track record of building and scaling technical enablement programs, knowledge bases, or enablement practices in a cross-functional environment
Experience working closely with Customer Success, Professional Services, Sales Engineering, or Partner teams in a customer-facing or internal advisory capacity
Excellent consultative and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment across teams
Demonstrated ability to synthesize customer and field insights into prescriptive patterns, architectural recommendations, and reusable enablement assets
Comfortable taking ownership of strategic initiatives from ideation through execution
Experience designing and delivering engaging virtual training and workshops with strong learner engagement techniques

About the Opportunity

We are hiring a Senior Personalization Solution Architect with deep domain expertise in personalization and experimentation to join Contentful’s Professional Services team. This role is designed for a practitioner who has built, operated, and scaled personalization programs in production, and who also brings the hands-on technical skills required to implement those programs in modern, composable architectures.

This is not a generalist Solution Architect role with light exposure to personalization. Success in this role requires strong opinions and real-world experience across audience strategy, decisioning, experimentation, and measurement—paired with the ability to design and deliver high-quality technical implementations using Contentful Personalization.

You will work directly with customer engineering, product, and marketing teams to design and implement advanced personalization and experimentation solutions, while also serving as a customer-facing extension of Contentful’s Product and Engineering teams. Your work will help reduce implementation risk, accelerate time to value, and create tighter feedback loops into product development—specifically for complex personalization use cases.

Personalization & Experimentation Domain Leadership

Own the end-to-end design of personalization and experimentation programs, including:

experience decisioning models that balance relevance, performance, and governance
experimentation frameworks (A/B, multivariate, holdouts) with clear hypotheses and success criteria

Design personalization strategies that scale responsibly, including:

Define measurement approaches that connect:

user behavior → decisioning logic → exposure → business outcomes

Technical Solution Architecture & Hands-On Delivery

Architect and implement end-to-end personalization solutions using Contentful Personalization, including:

user identification and profile stitching
audience evaluation and decisioning
personalized content and experience delivery
experimentation and uplift measurement

Lead hands-on implementation activities such as:

building proof-of-concepts and reference implementations
configuring personalization models and decision logic
developing integration services and APIs
supporting production deployments and performance optimization

Integrate personalization solutions with enterprise platforms including:

CDPs (Segment, Tealium, mParticle, etc.)
CRMs (Salesforce, Dynamics)
analytics platforms (GA4, Adobe Analytics, Snowplow)

Technical Discovery & Customer Enablement

Lead technical discovery sessions to assess customer readiness across:

Translate personalization requirements into detailed technical designs, including:

integration patterns and API contracts
data and event schemas
deployment and observability considerations

Enable customer teams through:

implementation workshops and pair-programming

developer documentation and operational runbooks

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Feedback Loops

Partner closely with Contentful Product and Engineering teams to:

surface implementation challenges and recurring customer pain points
provide feedback that influences roadmap, developer experience, and documentation
validate new personalization capabilities against real customer use cases

Contribute to internal enablement by:

mentoring Solution Architects and delivery team members
developing reusable accelerators, patterns, and reference architectures
supporting Sales and Solution Engineering with technical expertise in complex personalization opportunities

What you need to be successful?

Required: Personalization & Experimentation Domain Expertise

Demonstrated, hands-on experience designing and operating personalization and experimentation programs in production, including:

What You’ll Do:

Engineering Delivery

Build and maintain financial services web platforms using Next.js (React, TypeScript) with a focus on performance, reliability, and partner-grade quality.
Deploy and operate applications in high-availability, multi-cloud Kubernetes environments, contributing to infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
Contribute to SRE practices: observability, alerting, incident response, and operational maturity for client-facing web properties.
Write well-tested, reviewable code and actively participate in code reviews, advocating for quality across the team.
Collaborate with designers, business stakeholders, and data science partners to deliver solutions that strengthen client trust.

AI & Automation

Build and maintain agentic workflows and automation that improve engineering delivery, spanning coding assistance, ticket management, compliance processes, and operational tasks.
Use AI-assisted development tools (IDE integrations, CLI agents, code review automation) as a core part of your daily workflow to accelerate output and improve quality.
Partner with business and data science teams to identify automation opportunities and build AI-driven solutions to operational and client-facing problems.
Evaluate emerging AI/ML tooling for software development and recommend adoption where it reduces toil or improves outcomes.
Develop internal tooling and developer experience improvements that help engineers across teams move faster.

What We’re Looking For:

Software Engineering (3–5 Years Experience)

Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node.js. Hands-on experience with Next.js is strongly preferred.
Experience deploying and operating applications on Kubernetes in production environments. Familiarity with multi-cloud architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is a plus.
Solid understanding of web application architecture: client-server models, RESTful APIs, microservices, and server-side rendering.
Demonstrated emphasis on code quality: testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end), code review practices, and engineering best practices.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling (e.g., Harness, GitHub Actions).
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and iterative delivery within sprint-based workflows.

AI Fluency & Automation

Demonstrated experience building automation, internal tooling, or agentic workflows.
Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar IDE and CLI integrations.
A builder’s mindset: you actively look for opportunities to automate repetitive work, streamline processes, and apply AI to engineering problems.
Willingness to experiment with emerging AI capabilities and drive adoption through working examples and documentation.

Collaboration & Communication

Compensation:

This range reflects total cash compensation, which may include base salary only or base salary plus target bonus, depending on the role. Where eligible, equity may also be offered separately and not included below. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.

- Charlotte, NC Hybrid Compensation Range: $80,000 – $140,000 per year

What You'll Do:

What We're Looking For:

5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing or tech-leading engineering teams in client-facing or cross-functional delivery environments.

As a Technical Engagement Lead – Director, you will own the technical strategy, engineering operating model, and delivery outcomes for a major client partnership, leading a multi-team engineering organization embedded within the client’s technology ecosystem. You set architectural direction across workstreams, develop engineering managers and senior ICs, and serve as the senior technical voice in executive-level client meetings. This role operates at the intersection of engineering leadership, platform strategy, and client partnership—requiring someone who can define a multi-quarter technical roadmap, align engineering investment to business outcomes, and build an organization that delivers at scale in regulated financial-services environments.

What You'll Do:

Own the technical strategy, architectural direction, and engineering standards for a client partnership spanning multiple squads and workstreams.
Translate business objectives into a cohesive engineering roadmap with clear investment priorities, sequencing, and decision-making frameworks that maintain consistency without bottlenecking delivery.
Lead and develop an engineering organization of multiple squads, including engineering managers and senior individual contributors, setting expectations for hiring, performance management, career development, and retention.
Design the team's organizational structure—squad topology, ownership boundaries, and autonomy models—to match delivery needs and scale with the engagement.
Serve as the senior technical counterpart to client technical leadership, architecture, security, and platform leadership—building trust, managing escalations, and shaping joint technical strategy.
Manage technology vendor and partner relationships (e.g., Adobe, Salesforce) alongside the client, ensuring alignment on roadmap, integration approach, and support.
Drive platform and data strategy at the engagement level: making build-vs-buy decisions, guiding system integration design, and owning the intersection of engineering and customer data flows across internal and client systems.
Present technical roadmaps, architecture decisions, risks, and investment recommendations to senior client and internal executive audiences using KPIs and operating metrics that connect engineering investment to acquisition, retention, reliability, risk reduction, and revenue impact.
Identify and prioritize technical debt, platform risk, reliability gaps, and scalability constraints, balancing long-term platform health against near-term feature velocity.
Drive adoption of emerging engineering capabilities, including AI-assisted development workflows, intelligent QA and observability automation, and AI-powered product features where they create measurable delivery or business value.
Build repeatable engineering processes, knowledge systems, and delivery frameworks that scale across the team and can be leveraged across RVGT engagements.

What We're Looking For:

8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading multi-team engineering organizations and direct experience managing engineering managers in client-facing, consulting, or embedded operating models.
Proven ability to operate in regulated environments with strong security, privacy, compliance, and governance requirements; financial services experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience defining technical strategy and platform architecture for complex, multi-workstream engagements—not just executing within them.
Strong command of modern web and cloud-native technologies (React, Next.js, Node.js, Python, or equivalent) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including CI/CD, observability, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code—with the architectural judgment to guide teams without writing code daily.
Experience designing and governing integrations across APIs, third-party platforms, customer data systems, and enterprise applications at scale.
Executive-level communication skills: comfortable presenting technical strategy, tradeoffs, and investment recommendations to VP+ client audiences and translating between engineering and business contexts.
Track record of building high-performing engineering teams—hiring, developing managers, establishing operating rhythms—while managing engagement economics including scoping, staffing strategy, SOW contribution, and aligning delivery to commercial outcomes.
Experience in Agile delivery environments with cross-functional partners, with strong judgment balancing speed, scalability, maintainability, and delivery risk across competing priorities.
