Job summary

As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, you will work on designing, developing, and maintaining web applications, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and perform well across different environments. Your Role at impact.com:

As a Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead for Data Systems, you will lead a squad of engineers focused on designing, building, and maintaining data systems that are maintainable, reliable, and understandable at scale. You will set technical direction, own squad-level delivery outcomes, and manage the health and growth of your team - all while remaining a strong hands-on engineering contributor.

This role is centered on designing resilient distributed systems, including handling retries, partial failures, backpressure, and consistency tradeoffs. You are expected to function as the primary technical and people leader for your squad: breaking down complex problems into well-defined units of work, driving planning and cross-team alignment, governing releases and stability, and developing your direct reports through coaching and feedback.

This is a software engineering leadership role, not a data analysis/statistical role or an ETL/SQL-focused role.

Essential Responsibilities

• Own squad-level delivery, technical direction, and outcomes (quality, stability, deadlines) across multiple workstreams
• Provide direct people management: coaching, performance feedback, career development, delegation, hiring input, and team health
• Set and align technical approach for the squad; make or drive key decisions, resolve cross-engineer disagreements, and ensure designs fit architecture and guidelines
• Drive coordination to meet quarterly objectives - work breakdown, sequencing, dependency management, and alignment with stakeholders across a distributed team
• Serve as the final accountable approver for PRs, release readiness, point releases, and build/stage stability; ensure operational discipline is followed
• Own timely incident response patterns, drive follow-up, ensure preventative actions happen (not just fixes), and improve processes to reduce recurrence
• Set engineering standards for the squad (documentation expectations, review rigor, testing discipline, quality bars) and ensure consistency
• Break down complex data logic into small, testable units and model this practice for the team

• Develop code both independently and while pair programming

Overview

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Experiences Team. This team builds and maintains the foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s product experience across platforms. What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with Speechify’s Product Teams to scope projects, find ways to reduce scope to get faster feedback from customers, navigate the integration/UX tradeoffs relevant to different product teams, and deliver solutions via our cross-platform SDK

We are an energetic team that is fully responsible for all the systems required to support the Takealot Group's delivery network as well as the unique challenges that come with logistics and scale. We have adopted a microservices architecture to both isolate our logic and to enable scale. We follow the event-driven architecture as well as utilize a graph database to model our delivery network. We are currently working through unique problems in the logistics space and are actively researching the usage of the actor model design pattern and graph traversal optimization.

• Proven track record of delivering production-grade machine learning models and data science products that drove significant business impact

• 8+ years of progressive Software Development experience, with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership or lead role.
• Experience working with Service, Sales and Data Cloud having implemented Agentforce use cases with Call Center/IVR integrations with Salesforce.
• Expertise in Apex and Visualforce programming experience, and a strong focus on Salesforce Flow (Screen, Record-Triggered, and Auto launched Flows) for declarative automation.
• Proven experience developing modern user interfaces using Lightning Web Components (LWC) and/or Aura Components.
• Familiarity with Salesforce DX (SFDX) for source-driven development and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) DevSecOps tools such as Gearset or Copado.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

As a Software Engineer, you will be someone whose expertise directly translates into developing robust software in the e-commerce domain. You will have the opportunity to implement best practices to improve existing software and participate in the development of new features. While we don't promote after-hours work as part of the regular workday, we run a 24/7 business with the need to keep systems up and running. Software Engineers are expected to provide after-hours support on a rotational basis to resolve critical system issues if needed.

The role is focused on maintaining our search stack. We are currently in the process of transitioning from Elasticsearch to Vertex AI Search, so experience with any of those would be a bonus, but not a necessity. As a Senior Software Engineer III, your focus will be on delivering epics for the squad through planning, designing, implementing, testing and deploying. You will be self sufficient with an understanding of ancillary services and infrastructure.

 Your Role at impact.com:

As a Software Quality Assurance Engineer at Impact, your key responsibilities will carry a dual  mandate, being to deliver the highest quality software to our end users while simultaneously ensuring the persistence of the quality standard by means of automated regression. This is a rare opportunity in QA to have a direct influence on the quality of our software through every phase of the feature delivery workflow. This role will fully encompass all responsibilities associated with the Quality Assurance complement for a designated squad.

The applicant who is ultimately successful will be expected to scrutinize new features with a high attention to detail and document the methodology utilised in the form of a detailed test plan containing the respective test cases specific to the feature.  Upon successful deployment of the feature, the scenarios detailed in the test plan are then to be automated using Java and selenium webdriver.

The person filling this role will also be mandated with conducting the regression testing phase of the deployment workflow process and reporting on results timeously. The successful candidate will partner closely with software Development Engineers and Product Managers to understand product requirements as well as functionality for developing appropriate build scripts, test plans and test cases.
