About the Role:
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to contribute to a next-generation security initiative. You’ll be part of a small, highly technical team working on novel approaches to secure systems - with a focus on cryptography, automation, and AI-powered analysis. You’ll work closely with senior engineers and contribute hands-on to the codebase across the stack. This role involves hands-on development, learning opportunities, and collaboration across engineering, product, and design.
Day to Day:
- Contribute to the design, development, and delivery of features across the product
- Write clean, maintainable code for back-end systems deployed in AWS or GCP
- Collaborate with AI and cryptography specialists
- Work with the product manager to understand requirements and help the team plan architecture, data flows, API specs, and testing strategies
- Follow established engineering practices and participate in team discussions around process and quality
- Participate in customer-driven development and iterate based on feedback
- Write automated tests for load, performance, and error handling
What you bring to the table:
- 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience for backend development
- Excellent TypeScript and Node.js coding experience
- AWS experience in containers (EKS, ECS) and serverless systems
- Relational, key/value, and graph datastore experience with schema management
- API design, data modeling, secure service development, database systems
- Has a focus on quality code, error handling, and high availability
- A thoughtful, pragmatic approach to solving technical problems in a fast-paced environment
- At least upper-intermediate level of spoken and written English
Extra Credit:
- Versed in Python coding and environments
- Experience with GCP systems
- Experience with applied cryptography, especially key management, TLS, or post-quantum algorithms
- Familiarity with agent-based architectures or systems that scan and orchestrate actions across distributed environments
- Knowledge of AI/ML systems, particularly LLM integration or agent-style reasoning patterns
- Experience managing LLM agents to increase both speed and quality of code generation and tests
- Exposure to security tools, vulnerability detection platforms, or compliance automation
- Prior experience working on developer-facing or infrastructure-heavy products

We're hiring a Team Lead for one of the most consequential engineering teams at Delasport - the team that owns KYC, AML, anti-fraud, and regulatory compliance across the platform.
These aren't peripheral services. They're what makes it legally possible for our operators to take a bet in every market we're licensed in. Every player who signs up, every withdrawal, every suspicious pattern, every regulator report - it flows through systems your team owns. When a new jurisdiction comes online, your team is on the critical path.

What Your Team Owns
You'll lead a team of 5 full-stack developers and 2 QAs responsible for:
- KYC - identity verification pipelines, document checks, and third-party provider integrations
- AML - transaction monitoring, sanctions and PEP screening, suspicious-activity detection
- Anti-Fraud - behavioural analysis and fraud-pattern detection across player activity
- Regulatory Compliance - jurisdiction-specific rules, reporting obligations, and operator configurations
The footprint is a mix of synchronous APIs, scheduled jobs, and real-time stream consumers processing events off Kafka and RabbitMQ.
What You'll Actually Work On
- Shaping the future stack. Today the team works across PHP/Laravel, Python, and TypeScript/Vue. All new services will be written in Node.js, and you'll be a key voice in shaping how that evolution unfolds - patterns, shared libraries, deployment standards.
- Driving technical excellence. Setting and raising the bar on performance, reliability, and operational maturity across the team's services.
- Real ownership of production. The team owns its services end to end - design, build, ship, observe, fix. You set the standard for how that ownership is exercised.
- Growing the team. Seniors ready to push toward staff-level work; mids ready to grow into seniors. Your impact on them will be one of the most rewarding parts of this role.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the team. Set technical direction, code-quality bar, and architectural standards. Run code reviews that teach. Develop the engineers under you.
- Stay hands-on. This is not a pure people-management role. You'll write code, design systems, and pair on hard problems.
- Architect for the real world. Design services that handle real-time event streams reliably, fail safely under regulatory scrutiny, and integrate cleanly with the third-party providers we depend on.
- Drive the technical roadmap. Make and defend the calls on what to refactor, what to rewrite, and where to invest the team's time.
- Partner across the org. Work closely with Product, DevOps, Data, and the Compliance/Legal side of the business - the last of which is unusual for an engineering role and one of the more interesting parts of the job.

Who You Are
- Experience: 7+ years building backend systems in PHP, including 2+ years leading a team or operating as a senior technical lead.
- Core technical strength:
- Strong PHP and OOP fundamentals - design patterns, clean architecture, testability.
- Production experience with Laravel (or strong Symfony experience and the willingness to ramp on Laravel).
- Comfortable working with event-driven systems - Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent. You've built and operated consumers, not just published a message once.
- Solid grasp of relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) - schema design, query performance, the things that bite at scale.
- Working experience with NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar) - knowing when to reach for it and when not to.
- Comfortable with Docker, containerised deployments, and at least one cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Architecture sense: You can reason about scalability, fault tolerance, and failure modes - and explain trade-offs to people who don't share your background.
- Leadership: You lead by setting direction and raising the bar of those around you, not by managing tickets. Strong written and spoken English.
- Mindset: Pragmatic, bias toward shipping, comfortable with ambiguity, genuinely interested in the business problem and not just the technical one.

Overview:
The AppSec team at Liveperson is responsible for testing the security of LivePerson applications and environments, on-premises and cloud. All of our AppSec team members are expected to have a thorough understanding of complex IT systems and stay up to date with the latest security vulnerabilities, standards, systems and protocols, as well as testing tooling and methodologies.
This role manages SDLC integrated application security testing tooling and integrations, drives risk reduction and vulnerability remediation and assists in the closing of discovered vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
The right candidate will have a can do, follow-up and follow through attitude. They will be able to understand and assess our environments for vulnerability and communicate the associated risk to internal and external stakeholders.
You will:
- Manage and enhance application security tools (Static Code Analysis, Open Source vulnerabilities tools, Dynamic Application Security tools, etc), integrations, and develop in-house application security automation tools
- Validate discovered vulnerabilities using code review skills and manual/semi-automatic tooling like Burp.
- Validate external penetration test results and work with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform some security penetration tests (both application and infrastructure for Web and mobile applications)
- Work with the engineering and security teams to provide actionable reporting, find and explain security issues, suggest mitigations, and determine when issues are mitigated.
- Stay up to date on the latest testing tools and techniques ensuring both your and the team is using the most effective and efficient methods.
- Produce both high level and detailed reports and metrics to support data-based decisions.
- Assist in creating and updating Application Security procedures, policy, standards and guidelines
- Train, coach and mentor other members of the team, development and the broader LivePerson Security and Engineering teams.
You have:
- Understanding of software security architecture and design
- Broad experience of information security and AppSec testing techniques
- Have practical experience in an application security role with manual testing
- Solid understanding of cloud environments (GCP especially), web protocols, weaknesses and vulnerabilities
- Good working knowledge of current IT risks and experience testing, exploitation and mitigation techniques
- Working knowledge or experience with one or more of the following: Shell, Java, Python, or Node.js

How you will make an impact
- Work with our product team to architect and develop new features
- Optimize existing features using modern development techniques to improve speed and reliability
- Write comprehensive test suites that fortify our codebase
- Deploy to production often
What you need to succeed
- 4+ years of experience building back ends applications using a modern web framework (we use Python + Django, Node.js)
- Experience analyzing code performance to identify optimization opportunities
- Experience writing unit and integration tests
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL DBs (we use MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB, Redshift)
- Fluent spoken and written use of English language
It would be considered a plus:
- Experience with Apache Airflow or other task workflow systems
- Experience with data pipelines
- Infrastructure as Code and familiarity with AWS
- Frontend experience (we use React)
