About the role

As a Sr. Software Engineer on the QA Automation Tools team, you will drive initiatives that enable our QA and development teams to move faster and ship with greater confidence. About the Role: 

We are seeking a technically strong, hands-on Senior Database Reliability Engineer to help design, build, and scale the database platform used across Sezzle’s applications.

This is not a traditional DBA role. This role is for an engineer who can combine deep database knowledge with software engineering, infrastructure engineering, and platform thinking. You will help build the systems, libraries, automation, standards, and guardrails that make database usage across Sezzle reliable, secure, scalable, and easy for developers to adopt correctly.

As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for improving how Sezzle applications connect to, migrate, operate, observe, and scale their databases. We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with a strong background in data engineering, ideally with hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services such as Pub/Sub, Dataflow, and BigQuery. The ideal candidate will have solid proficiency in SQL and Python, along with familiarity in moving and transforming data across cloud-based data zones and streaming pipelines (ETL/ELT). Define the Agent-Native HR Stack

• Apply agentic development practices to your own team's engineering process — using agents to write, test, review, and deploy code so that headcount does not scale linearly with product scope.

Own the Platform Vision

• Define the comprehensive HR platform roadmap — what we build, what we integrate, and what we deliberately do not own — with a bias toward deep integration over broad coverage.
• Ensure the platform is designed for global scale from the start: multi-currency, multi-jurisdiction, multi-language, and operable across legal entities without per-country engineering investment.

Your Assignment

Development

• Evaluate libraries, tools, and services for suitability

Observability and Monitoring

• Design, implement, and build scalable architectures leveraging AWS services with an emphasis on reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
• Build and maintain observability solutions using AWS native (e.g., CloudWatch, X-Ray, Config) and partner tools (e.g. Datadog, Dynatrace, OpenTelemetry) for APM, infrastructure monitoring, logging, and tracing.
• Work with a 24x7 response team and operations leadership group to help establish the precise collection of metrics, data and logs needed to properly monitor an application or workload
• Within this observability framework help establish corresponding runbooks and automation that can be deployed when certain metrics and conditions (monitoring) are met
• Work with the CloudOps teams in effort to reduce noise and address root causes of issues surfaced
