Job Overview
As a Senior Database Solutions Architect, you will serve as a pre-sales specialist, supporting the broader sales organization with deep technical knowledge across database workloads. This means working with customers and prospects to educate them on how Rubrik protects and manages data. Additionally, the Solution Architect will have an active role in providing real world feedback to product teams to enhance the product, testing new features before they are released, and championing new features within the sales team. The Solutions Architect provides both immediate and long term impact with their technical knowledge and position of influence with prospects and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Rubrik’s data protection and data security solutions, focussed on database workloads deployed either on-prem or in the cloud.
- Act as a trusted advisor on assigned opportunities, aligning Rubrik’s technology and roadmap with customer business objectives.
- Lead impactful product demonstrations, technical workshops, and solution presentations tailored for technical and executive-level audiences.
- Support customers based in North America; must be comfortable working in the US Eastern Time Zone (ET) timings: 5:30 PM to 2:30 AM
- Contribute to high-quality proposals, white papers, and responses to RFPs/RFIs.
- Collaborate with presales teams to design, execute, and troubleshoot proof-of-concepts (POCs), ensuring successful outcomes.
- Proactively identify technical challenges and architect creative solutions to overcome sales barriers.
- Translate complex customer requirements into clear, actionable technical strategies.
- Stay abreast of industry trends in data protection, security, database and cloud technologies, effectively positioning Rubrik’s solutions.
- Evangelize Rubrik’s offerings and clearly communicate strategic direction and product roadmap aligned with customer needs.
- Work closely with Product Management and Engineering to influence feature development based on customer feedback and market demands.
- Provide competitive intelligence and actionable insights from customer engagements to internal stakeholders.'
Qualifications
- 10+ years of successful experience in customer-facing technical sales or consulting roles focused on enterprise database technologies and cloud.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Core expertise: Deep technical proficiency in the following areas:
- MS SQL Server: Architecting and managing large scale high-availability and disaster recovery (HADR) solutions. Including extensive experience with Always On Availability Groups (AG), Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), and log shipping.
- Cloud DBs: Design and management of Azure SQL, Azure SQL MI or Amazon RDS/Aurora or GCP CloudSQL
- Secondary Competencies: Proficiency or working knowledge of
- NoSQL/Distributed: MongoDB, Apache Cassandra.
- Relational DBs: Oracle, IBM DB2, Informix, PostgreSQL.
- Containerized DBs
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, Go, or JavaScript.
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities, able to troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver scalable solutions.
- Experience conducting benchmarks and performance testing on enterprise systems (preferred).
- Demonstrated sales acumen, capable of articulating technical value to C-level executives and technical audiences including database administrators.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with sales, engineering, and product management.
- Exceptional communication skills, including compelling presentations and clear, concise writing.
- Proven experience with data center hardware/software, cloud platforms, data security solutions, IaaS, PaaS, or hypervisor software.
- Self-motivated and results-driven, comfortable working remotely with a high degree of autonomy.
- Flexible and willing to travel (approximately up to 20%) for client meetings and site visits.

About the role:
As a Sr. Manager, Platform & Architecture you will lead the definition, governance & continuous evolution of the enterprise data architecture vision and roadmap, ensuring strong alignment with business strategy and digital transformation goals. This role is accountable for establishing modern, secure, and scalable data platform architectures that enable advanced analytics, AI/ML, generative AI, and self service data capabilities across the organization.
You will provide strategic leadership in embedding AI into the enterprise data platform, enabling use cases such as predictive analytics, intelligent automation, and generative AI, while ensuring responsible AI practices, model governance, data quality, and regulatory compliance.
The role requires deep expertise in data architecture, cloud data platforms, analytics ecosystems, and platform security, combined with strong people and stakeholder management skills. Experience you'll need:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
- 10 - 15+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or platform architecture roles
- Strong experience designing and implementing modern data architectures and cloud data platforms.
- Hands-on and architectural experience with:
- Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse/data lake experience
- Tableau or similar BI tools
- Fivetran or equivalent ingestion tools
- dbt or similar data transformation frameworks

About the team
You’ll be joining the Exocompute team, we build the platform that supports Rubrik’s SaaS products and allows for a very flexible deployment model and architecture. A key challenge faced by Rubrik is how to support a variety of customers – some want Rubrik to run everything (SaaS), others want the data to remain in their public cloud but still have it managed by Rubrik (Hybrid SaaS), and finally sine want a private, on-premise solution (On-Prem). Rubrik supports all three and with a single flexible data-plane platform separate from our control plane. Exocompute builds this data-plane and solves a variety of hard problems around performance, security, high availability and best-in-class costs.
About the role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager who has a strong technical background and has worked on platforms and infrastructure in the past. We value managers who provide guidelines to their team and play a supporting role but give folks the space to take ownership of their work.
You will be responsible for driving your team and working closely with multiple product areas that Exocompute supports. You will set clear goals and direction for your team and hold them accountable to achieve this and lift the bar on engineering excellence. You’ll help grow the team and support each individual's growth and career objectives. You’ll help the team understand the business objectives and translate them into a technical roadmap and list of priorities. As part of this, you’ll partner with various stakeholders across Rubrik that Exocompute supports.
You will work closely with a Director of Engineering based in New York City, and other engineers based in Palo Alto, so experience working with distributed teams and multiple timezones is ideal.
What you’ll do
- Derive and drive the roadmap with key stakeholders
- You’ll diagnose and resolve obstacles that prevent your team from delivering quality software
- You’ll champion an atmosphere of continuous improvement, customer first focus and excellence
- You are a first principles thinker who can help the team tackle complex technical problems
- You distill complex and ambiguous situations into actionable plans for your team
- You represent the customers’ perspectives, you plan for how they will be impacted by the services you build, and you always work to enable their success
- Lead and grow a team of passionate engineers that are part of a larger team that spans multiple geographies in the US and India
- Provide support and guidance that enables the team to self-organize and to achieve sustained high velocity and predictability
- Help employees grow through career development, coaching, and mentoring
- You'll provide a clear path for progression for the team through personal development plans, defining goals, performing evaluations, and collaborating with employees on their objectives
Experience & qualifications you’ll need
- BS CS/EE or equivalent with 10+ years of industry experience, of which 2+ years is in Engineering Management; MS or PhD is a plus
- Experience with SaaS enterprise software development built and delivered on any of AWS or Azure or GCP
- Experience with distributed systems, availability, performance optimization and cost management of a SaaS platform
- Experience running engineering storage, compute and infrastructure teams that work on SaaS and On-prem enterprise platforms
- Experience hiring and developing teams within an existing organization to work side-by-side with other teams
- Developing team identity, empowering direct reports and building career growth options for your team
- Experience working directly with customers and vendors
- Experience building and cultivating strong engineering practices and processes
